Recalls and investigations
Service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components, hoses, lines/piping, and fittingsMar 10, 2023
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid.
A brake fluid leak will increase brake pedal travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the front brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 27, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S12.

Steering, steering wheel/handle barMar 12, 2018
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion vehicles. The steering wheel retaining bolt may loosen allowing the steering wheel to detach while driving.
A steering wheel detachment can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt with a longer bolt, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S08.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017 Lincoln MKZ and Ford Edge and Fusion vehicles. On vehicles with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded.
If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford or Lincoln will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque converters, free of charge. The recall began August 25, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S16.

I am reporting a serious recurring safety concern involving a 2017 Ford Fusion SE with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine. The vehicle was purchased used in August 2022 with approximately 50,000 miles. Within months, significant coolant and engine problems began. In February 2023, at approximately 55,940 miles, the vehicle developed a coolant leak. A pressure test confirmed the water pump was leaking and it was replaced. At approximately 84,189 miles, the vehicle experienced white/gray exhaust smoke, coolant loss, very low oil, and rough-running symptoms. The servicing Ford dealership referenced Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-2322 in connection with the diagnosis and ultimately replaced the engine short block. Despite this major engine repair, the problems continued. The vehicle subsequently experienced additional smoking, hesitation and loss of power and required replacement of the turbocharger. The vehicle was returned again because it continued to smoke and required additional repairs. I am concerned this is a recurring engine defect rather than normal wear and tear. The repeated engine/coolant failures, smoking, hesitation and loss of power create a serious safety concern because the vehicle may unexpectedly lose power or experience engine failure while being driven. Ford has been notified of the repeated failures but declined further relief based primarily on the vehicle's current age, mileage and expired warranty. This ignores that the problems began years earlier at substantially lower mileage and that major repairs failed to permanently correct the condition. I request that NHTSA investigate whether the 1.5L EcoBoost engine in this and similarly equipped Ford vehicles has a safety-related defect involving coolant intrusion, engine failure and loss of power. The vehicle is currently at approximately 101,000 miles, but the documented problems began at 55,940 miles and continued despite major repairs.

Good Aftrrnoon and I hope all is well. My cars check engine light is on and the dealer states it’s the cannister purge valve. I showed them that there is a recall (PART 573 safety recall - NHTSA Recall #26V369) but they will not accept it because it’s not showing my car needing it to be changed on the NHTSA website. They are saying it will cost $1995.00 to fix the issue. This is stopping me from obtaining an inspection sticker and I’ve received tickets. Can you confirm that my vehicle is part of this recall.

On 7/8/2026, the vehicle became undriveable. Placing the vehicle in reverse on the shidfter dial using registered a conflicting direction on the dashboard indicator. The vehicle was towed to a dealership and the repair consisted of replacing the shift cable bushing. This was the same fix required in recalls 18S20 & 22V413. On 7/9/2026 the issue was verified by a Ford dealership tech. I was advised that the protective cap is now contained in the repair kit with the shift cable bushing. A brief fleeting warning on the screen indicated a "Shift Fault - See Manual" or words to that effect. The manual only seemed to reference a "Steering Fault" Ford HQ was notified - Reference No: CXH-08533100

The door entry control numbers are on all the time now which will cause the battery to drain if the car is not driven daily. It says that water from a car wash or rain has gotten in behind the door control panel.

Coolant leak into engine block, ford dealership said $8,000 to replace engine cars only at 65k miles. Problem is from manufacturer defect in the 2.0l TT turbo engines in fusions and should be recalled as it’s not the owner/operators wrong doings.

Rear Backup Camera keeps malfunctioning. The display screen from camera glitches or goes black and eventually it will state that rear camera is not available.
Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Feb 13, 2026
Rear camera all of a sudden stops working and says "rear camera not available", creating unsafe conditions when backing up. Common issue on Ford Fusions, for which there's a recall recently announced for the 2016 model year but not for 2017, even though same signs and symptoms and vehicle otherwise. Could you please investigate.

I am a single mother raising my 6-year-old daughter on my own. This past year has been extremely difficult, as my car has been constantly in and out of repair shops. I have spent more than $8,000 in the last year and a half on unexpected repairs, many of them involving serious safety issues. I was never informed about the recall and never received any notice. This situation has caused me a lot of stress and hardship, and I am asking for guidance and support to help me through it. NHTSA COMPLAINT - 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium (VIN: REDACTED) - [XXX] (Collision) Q1: FAILED COMPONENT Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) and hybrid battery cell balancing circuits failed post-collision. Per Ford Recall 23V-440, Current Interrupt Device causes excess voltage, fire risk, toxic gas exposure. DTCs: U1027 (ABS/ECM loss), P2450/P2451 (EVAP stuck open/closed), P0DD2/P0DD6/P0DDE (battery cell balancing circuits H/J/K/M stuck off). Vehicle available for inspection. Q2: SAFETY RISKS Sudden power loss, fire risk, CO/HF toxic gas exposure from damaged cells. HF IDLH 0.025 g/m³. Symptoms: headaches, cognitive issues, respiratory problems requiring Brain MRI. Ford documented 7 fires, 2 while driving. Gas events recur when changing charging amperage; CO detector alarmed repeatedly; hospitalized for symptoms. Q3: DEALER CONFIRMATION NOT investigated. No Ford dealer conducted required post-collision battery diagnostics despite DTCs proving multiple system failures. United Insurance Claims ignored [legal demand] for hybrid-specific inspections. No CO/HF assessment. Battery cell balancing failures indicate physical collision damage to high-voltage system. Q4: INSPECTIONS Insurance: Standard only, ignored DTCs requiring hybrid testing. Ford Service (Tempe, AZ) and Ford Collision Center (Mesa, AZ): No inspection; reasons given a) lack capability b) we just scan the vehicle; we don't thoroughly inspect for gas leaks". Recall 23V-440 documents identical failures. Police: No report (real-time audio capture of admission of at-fault driver), no hazmat assessment. Multiple permanent DTCs prove need for Ford-certified diagnostics. Q5: WARNING SYMPTOMS Pre-collision: Intermittent issues, check engine light, reduced range. Post-collision: Reduced range, Gas exposure symptoms plus DTCs U1027, P2450/P2451, P0DD2/P0DD6/P0DDE showing communication/battery cell failures. Medical documentation available. I recently bought a gear shift bushing cap for the cable since the cable is loose. I bought the part at Tasca Ford in Cranston, RI. The part was hard to find. It’s the same issue as the recall for the same car b ur years prior. Cap disintegrated since its plastic and next to the engine. The most recent part I bought that was used as genuine replacement has also disintegrated. I can see the pieces of it corroded. I need to buy another one but it’s going to happen again since it’s a faulty design. The first time it happened months ago caused my car to go into park. I couldn’t move it out of the way in the street. It would let me put it in neutral. The second time it happened today the car got stuck in neutral and it took many tries to get it into park. Everything is in tact except the plastic bushing cap and part that clips the cable to the vehicle is corroded. Simple fix but unsafe and happens randomly.

What malfunctioned- Car did not give any notice that it was in engine failure for months other than under performing and upon taking it to the ford dealership was never helped with the problem they took money for an oil change and works package but failed to make sure my car was safe. My car was a safety hazard bc it gave zero warning that it was loosing power and when the engine did fail I knew something had been wrong for almost a year and felt it went ignored by Ford and was taken advantage of. The product has been confirmed by multiple mechanics that what causes it is the hose cracks and thus the engine coolant wrecks a working engine. Ford knows it’s a problem but isn’t acknowledging it and makes more money off of parts.

My Ford Fusion eco boost 2017 had a faulty shifter cable bushing. When the vehicle turned off, parked (not on a hill thankfully due to safety and rolling backwards) thinking it was in park, it would not start and not go into gear and the vehicle would not shift into gears and the wrench light came on shift malfunction light came open. This was inspected, verified, and repaired at the Brandon Ford dealer when we had to get the car towed to them. All service for this car has been by Brandon Ford. They installed new bushings and cap, adjusted cable and cleaned codes, and retested as ok after repair. When researched we noted a recall on Ford Fusions with this same problem for safety issues putting owners at risk due to confusion of car in what gear it was actually in despite thinking it was in park, may have been in reverse if car was on but if car off would not start. The recall campaign number for the Ford Fusion (2013-29`17) shifter cable bushing issue is 22S43/22V413. This recall was issued on June 2022 addressing the safety of preventing the transmission from shifting properly and causing a vehicle to roll unexpectedly when parked. I had the car repaired on 04/29/25 and paid in full on my Discover card $890.72. I submitted documentation to Ford but they denied reimbursement for my claim. Would you be so kind to advise me how to register my VIN for this recall and get Ford reimbursement? I reported this issue back on July 1, 2022. My car was getting stuck in park and when I would get it into gear (reverse), once I put it in drive it automatically switched back to park. The gear shift bushing had broken on my car and I had to have it repaired. As of today, the bushing continues to get stuck in park and I have to turn my car off and back on, press the brake multiple times in order to get it in gear, rather reverse or drive. It continuously gets stuck. I know there was a recall on the gear shifts from 2012-2016 Fusion models. Something needs to be done about this for the 2017 model. I am afraid that once again I will be stranded with my child because my car wont go into gear and will remain in park.

On 3/8 the car stopped moving while driving. No warning lights came on, no check engine lights, no fluid leaks etc. Ford spent 3 weeks investigating and said there was metal flakes in the transmission fluid. Towed it to a transmission shop whom immediately reported “large chunks of metal” in the transmission fluid. Advising the transmission was degrading from the inside. Agin no warning lights or check engine light are illuminated on the dash. Entire transmission will need to be replaced at 97,000 miles!

Car will not shift out of Park and getting an error message of "P0929.00-A Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Circuit A Range/Performance". There appears to be an issue with the gear shift module, and many others are experiencing the same issue. This issue could cause the driver to be stranded wherever the car decides to lock up. Anytime the driver puts the car in Park, it may not shift out of it again. Issue was experienced and confirmed at a local repair shop.
