Subject: Urgent Concern Regarding Parts Availability for Fuel Pump Motor Safety Recall (Exp2) – 2018-2020 Honda Accord 2.0T Dear NHTSA, I am reaching out to express my concerns regarding Honda's lack of parts availability for the Fuel Pump Motor Recall on the 2018-2020 Honda Accord 2.0T. This recall addresses a critical safety issue with the fuel pump, which could cause the engine to stall unexpectedly—a significant hazard to drivers and passengers alike. It is troubling to note that while Honda has continued to produce and release new vehicles for 2024 and 2025, they have not been able to provide the necessary parts to repair recalled models already on the road. This discrepancy raises serious questions about the prioritization of safety, as new production vehicles seem to take precedence over the repair needs of existing owners affected by this recall. As a Honda owner, I rely on my vehicle daily, and this delay has caused considerable inconvenience and concerns for my safety. I am seeking guidance on Honda's obligations in this situation and any additional steps that owners can take to expedite these necessary repairs. If there is anything that NHTSA can do to encourage Honda to prioritize the availability of these parts, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Everyday the vehicles struggles to pick up on speed and stalls out. I am often holding up traffic because I’m driving to slow. I have to very very very slowly accelerate so that the car doesn’t stall. When the trying to accelerate it often skips and jerks while driving. I often wonder if this will affect me while driving on the interstate. I fear that a bad accident is on the horizon with these issues. Could you please help. I’ve tried multiple times since last December to get the car fixed and Honda refuses to fix my vehicle even though I received a letter in the mail saying more repair parts are available.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle; however, while driving and exceeding 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and driven to a dealer at slow speeds. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed; however, the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.

The issue has been observed repeatedly and confirmed by my service center during each replacement. It has occurred in different environments and driving conditions, and despite repairs, the problem persists. Honda refuses to replace headlamps after multiple faliures The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by my service center, but the manufacturer has not directly inspected it. No police or insurance representatives have been involved in the inspections. Each time the repair is made “All looks normal” The problem is preceded by a warning light on the dashboard indicating a headlight malfunction. Shortly after, the headlight fails, and then the turn signal malfunctions. The first instance of this problem occurred around 28,000 milesand it has recurred multiple times since then.

I’ve been trying to get my part replaced since August and I’ve been hundreds of dollars in between that time till now WASTING MONEY! And I’ve been told by 3 different dealerships that because I wasn’t experiencing what they considered major issues that they decided to not see me for the recall based off the information provided. I spoke with someone yesterday that I spoke to weeks ago about the same thing, and was told they didn’t have the part then when I asked to speak to a manager, he put me on hold and told me the part was in. I haven’t been able to drive my car since last Friday. It’s a huge inconvenience, as getting this part replaced would eliminate that issue I had to beg and threaten ppl jobs to get it replaced! But the amount of money I’ve wasted and fallen behind on MY BILLS IS CRAZY!!!!!! Honda should be cutting me check for the money loss as result so I can pay on things I had to wait on.. or create arrangements for along with having to ask my family for help because of the money I’ve been wasting the last two months

To the highway safety I would like to inform that I purchased a 2018 honda accord and it has been nothing but a nightmare and safety issue for me and my family. What happens is the car at random times will turn on the cmbs system basically when that happens it is hard to brake or even control the car all lights on the dashboard panel light up honda says it’s just bc we the people don’t understand the function and how it works but that is not the case on social media places like websites and ticktock you can see videos of the issues and no one cares how is it okay for honda to sell a car that brakes randomly or tells you to brake when no cars in front or even when there is but it’s a decent speed where you have space please I have read and read news and every time I see a honda I think bet it was a cmbs issue please please have them fix it it’s dangerous . This happens at random times sometimes no cars even on the road when I take it to Honda each time basically all they do is reset it by turning battery of what !!!! That’s dangerous please help
Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 14, 2024
At 53,000, I began getting simultaneous errors light up the dashboard. I code reader indicated I had misfires on cylinder 3. Replaced spark plugs even though the originals are rated to near 100,000 miles. Ended up needing to have fuel injectors replaced by the dealer for $1300. Upon further research, this seems to be a common problem for these 1.5T engines caused by either faulty injectors or engine design. I purchase Honda for reliability and do not expect this kind of issue on a vehicle with that low of mileage. Honda should extend the warranty and offer reimbursement to those affected by this issue.

Every week the following warning lights keep coming on, brake System problem, vehicle stability assist, electric power steering system, hill start assist, acc, collision mitigation. And engine light. Has happened 6 times since purchase. Been to dealer 2 times and problem has not been addressed. They only fixed recall on fuel pump. Took it to dealer we purchased it from and they didn't do anything to fix problem.

The fuel pump system in my Honda Accord 2018 Lx failed causing my car engine to turn off while I was driving on the express lane which then caused my car to spin out and slam my backside of the car into the wall. I was driving alone in the car with my seatbelt on and was able to blow my horn to alert other drivers to slow down. The vehicle was only inspected by the policer officer who arrived on scene and took notes of the incident. There was no warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure. I was only cognizant of this fuel pump issue from the recall letter.

Braking system engaged while driving, slamming on brakes for no reason within first 6 months of having purchased my 2018 Honda Accord EX. While driving the car on a normal highway with no cars in front of me, the car suddenly brakes and then the brake releases. The car came to a complete stop for no reason while driving around 55-60mph on the highway with no cars in front of me or to the sides. I couldn't get the brake pedal up off the floor of the car. After about 5 seconds, the brakes finally released, and I was able to drive again. Took car to Princeton, NJ Honda Service Department and they tried to readjust the front facing camera and the radar system. They said that it was misaligned or had been misaligned due to possible damage from a rock kicking up from road. Car was okay for about a week and then was slammed suddenly to hard brake in middle of road while driving again on highway, around 45mphs. Car was bought back to Honda dealership, and the service department solution to problem was to order a new front camera unit and replace the radar unit. New Camera Parts were on backorder, with over a 2 week wait for parts to deliver to dealership. Princeton Honda provided a loaner vehicle while awaiting parts and then repairs. Was without my new car for over 2 and half weeks. Have had no such issues with braking system since replacement and repair of a front camera and radar unit.

The problem first started on 8-8-24 when I cranked up my car & the dashboard lit up with all of these different sensors. I called Leith Honda dealership in Aberdeen, due to that is where I take my car to be serviced at, my customer service rep (Brian) stated to wait to see if they would stay on, because of that type of car will reset itself. So later on, that day they did, go away after driving it a while. Then a sensor popped up on 8-10-24 & stayed on for just a day, then came back off again. I called again & he stated to wait again so that the car can be diagnosed, but it had cut off again. So, a few days had gone by & in the middle of driving on the highway while going 60 mph, all of the same sensors came back on & the car would not go over 40 mph due to one of the main sensors stating "Emission System Problem. Avoid Heavy Acceleration & High Speed. See Your Dealer." Along with my 21MONTH old baby in the car! DANGEROUS! My job (travel CNA) requires me to travel from facility to facility & I need my car to be reliable. The rep said it really sounds like the recall part that is going bad in my car needs to be replaced & until it stays on sticks; there is nothing that can be done. I beg to defer! Is it going to take for me to get into a car accident & jeopardize my daughter & I safety in order for the part to be replaced, after what the recall notification states that can be done while operating the vehicle. Along with the recall stating that they are only willing to replace the part for free if the car is potentially life threating or inoperable. The fact that they are taking their time replacing these parts is dangerous or mindful at all. I love my car, but I am not willing to put my daughter's life, or mine nor anyone else's life in danger by continuing driving this car and still having to pay for it. I deserve for this part & anything else that is affected, due to the part needing to be replaced. Thank you for resolving the issue.

Car lost power when trying to drive and I almost got hit by oncoming traffic. The car was fine and I had full power but all of a sudden without warning I had no power . I shut the car off and it was fine again. The car is at dealer and it turns out it is a bad (blown)head gasket. The service advisor stated it’s a well known problem with the 1.5 liter engine, in fact he, he stated they had six Honda accord 1.5 liter cars at the dealership with the same problem.

Steering, Service brakes, Engine, Sep 27, 2024
During regular driving, the vehicle engine will stall and lose power, with 9 different warning lights coming on and ALL advanced driver assistance systems becoming disabled, and I believe ABS brakes being disabled as well. This is due to cylinder 3 misfires and the problem is intermittent, but the loss of power can come on randomly and is dangerous on highways as you have to pull over due to the sudden loss of engine power, restart the car, and hope the problem temporarily goes away. The L15BE engine used in 10th gen Accord engines is widely known to have a faulty engine block design leading to EARLY head gasket leaks (see links) which results in misfires and I think it is imperative that Honda issue a recall as thus far, they have been ignoring the pleas of the owners. I am planning on replacing the gasket ($4000 personal mechanic. Honda charges closer to $6000) with aftermarket parts ($400 additional) as replacing them with OEM parts would just allow this to occur again. Please contact me for more details. The youtube video goes into succinct detail of the design issue at hand which is mechanical in nature, however it directly effects driver and transportation safety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=age8_Mi5sEU&list=PLTM0MsUKWXaQEG8lbsVJ99W1TvHbWiAXR&index=5 There are no shortage of people experiencing this and the problem extends to the entire fleet of vehicles using the L15 engine block including CRVs and Civics. https://www.driveaccord.net/threads/blown-head-gasket-any-recall.559243 https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/1ag0fzm/gen_10_head_gasket_failure_update https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/182zdzh/2018_honda_accord_blown_head_gasket https://www.accordxclub.com/threads/2018-honda-accord-sport-1-5-engine-fail.8781/ https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/zn2srz/2018_15t_touring_with_blown_head_gasket_after_4 https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/blown-head-gasket.83781/

Car started not wanting to accelerate and all of the dash lights came on, thankfully it was on a rural road and not the freeway. My 20 year old daughter was driving and was so startled by what was happening the she almost went into a ditch getting to the side of the road. Hooked it up to a code machine and it said that it was misfiring so we replaced spark plugs and coils. This happened in July of this year (2024). We took it in for both of the recalls, it was a software update and a fuel pump mount replacement. In between changing plugs and coils and doing the recalls the engine started slightly shaking. The engine shaking was listed as a symptom of the bad fuel pump mount so we thought the fix for the recall would take care of the problem. We got it back after the fuel pump mount recall and it ran great for about 2 weeks. And then the shaking came back. We took it to our local Honda dealership and it turns out that it had blown head gaskets. This is a 2018 Honda Accord that has had all of its oil changes. So it seems to me that something is wrong with some components of the engine. Other than all of the indicator lights coming on the one time we never had and check engine lights come on and the car never overheated or if it did the gages never relayed this information. My collision mitigation braking system is automatically braking on me with nothing in front of me going high rated speeds on the interstate. I have chronic migraines and neck issues that also have been being treated on a very consistent basis. I brought it in numerous times. I have appointment documents from dealership stating these issues, with no solution. Today it happened again severely and it was harsher than normal, scaring my 3 kids. I have had enough. Winter is coming and I am not gonna challenge black ice again. I have ongoing medical conditions being treated due to the repetitive whiplash.

This is the second time in a year and a half, fuel injectors went bad an were replaced and im assuming this time is same issue. The car had a little rough idle . The car throws a check engine light and all other lights on dash come on and vehicle went into a sort of limp mode.. car would not excellerate and all safety items will not work… the injectors went bad at 59000 miles and after being changed at dealer it looks like they are bad again at 78000 miles.. this car is dangerous because of these issues..i am calling dealer on Monday
