Engine and engine coolingJun 8, 2023
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.
An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Equipment, electrical, radio/tape deck/cd etc.Jul 23, 2015
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

GEAR SELECTOR UNPREDICTABLE. SOMETIMES HARD TO PLACE IN PARK AND KNOW IT'S IN PARK. I HAVE EXITED CAR THINKING IT WAS PLACED IN PARK AND IGNITION OFF ONLY TO EXIT CAR WITH PASSENGERS STILL ABOARD AND CAR CONTINUE TO TRAVEL UNDER POWER FORWARD. YOU DO NOT WANT TO PARK THIS CAR NEAR ANY EMBANKMENTS OR SLOPES.

THE HALOGEN HEADLIGHT GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED(WITHOUT LUXURY GROUP II, WHICH THE HID HEADLIGHT COMES WITH) IS TOO DIM DURING THE NIGHT ESPECIALLY RAINING NIGHT. HARDLY TO SEE LINES OR OBJECTS. I WENT TO A DEALERSHIP ASKED THEM IF I CAN UPGRADE IT TO HID HEADLIGHT WITH MY OWN COST, THEY SAID NO. AND THE 2016 GRAND CHEROKEE ALSO USE THE SAME HALOGEN HEADLIGHT.

GPS SYSTEM TENDS TO PROVIDE DIRECTIONS TURNING ONTO PRIVATE DRIVES AND BARELY PASSIBLE NON PUBLIC ROADS. WILL PREFORM ROUTE CALCULATION, BEFORE COMPLETING START ANOTHER, AS MANY AS TEN IN A ROW. SYSTEM PROVIDES FALSE LOCATIONS FOR ADDRESSES ENTERED. ADDRESSES ENTERED ARE PLOTTED AND DIRECTIONS ARE PROVIDED, UPON NEARING LOCATION SYSTEM CAN NO LONGER FIND LOCATION. IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH INFORMATION PROVIDED HAS ISSUES VEHICLE MUST BE PUT INTO MOTION. THE GPS/NAVIGATION IS PART OF THE UCONNECT SYSTEM WHICH HAS A WIDE VARIETY OF OPERATIONAL ISSUES INVOLVING ITS OTHER COMPONENTS. SAFETY HAZARD IS GETTING DRIVE LOST, ARRIVING IN UNSAFE AREAS AS WELL AS SENDING YOU ONTO UNSAFE ROADS/NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. MEMORY SEAT DOES NOT REPOSITION SEAT AND MIRRORS INTO THE PROGRAMED POSITIONS, EVEN WITH MEMORY SEAT MODULAR REPLACED WITH REDESIGNED MODULAR ISSUE REMAINS. THE ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFTER IS DIFFICULT TO USE AND OFTEN SHIFTS INTO AN UNINTENDED GEAR DURING USE. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THEN REVERSING, I OFTEN GET DELAYED IN THE MANEUVER AS THE SHIFTER WILL SHIFT TO N INSTEAD OF R FROM D, OR WHILE TRYING TO REVERSE FROM P, IT WILL SHIFT TO N INSTEAD OF R. IN TIMES OF TRAFFIC, THIS SHIFTER REQUIRES ME TO TAKE MY EYES OFF OF THE ROAD AND ONTO THE SHIFTER ITSELF TO MAKE SURE IT IS SHIFTING INTO THE EXACTLY THE RIGHT GEAR, WHICH CAN BE HAZARDOUS. ALSO, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN P, IT WILL SHIFT INTO R JUST AS EASILY AS IT WILL SHIFT INTO P. I HAVE LEFT MY VEHICLE BEFORE WHEN IT IS IN R THINKING IT WAS IN P.

WITH A COLD TRANSMISSION (USUALLY) THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD TIME GOING FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND. THERE IS LAG/DELAY AND THEN WHEN IT SHIFTS THERE IS A LURCH FORWARD MOVEMENT. THIS IS HAPPENING WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND THEN MOVING...I.E. OUT OF A PARKING SPACE OR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ENTERING THE STREET. THIS HAPPENS DAILY.

TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY STUCK BETWEEN GEARS WHEN STARTING FROM A NEAR STOP. DEALER IS ABLE TO REPRODUCE ISSUE AND COMPUTER REPORTS THAT "DOG CLUTCH" IS CONFUSED ON WHICH GEAR TO BE IN. WHEN APPLYING THROTTLE, CAR WILL NOT MOVE UNTIL CLUTCH DISENGAGES CAUSING A STRONG SURGE. CHRYSLER ENGINEERING IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE WHEN PRESSING THROTTLE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION DECIDES WHICH GEAR TO ENGAGE.

ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFTER IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, IT TAKES ME TWO OR THREE TRIES TO GET THE JEEP INTO THE CORRECT GEAR EVERY TIME I START THE VEHICLE. FIAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE AND FIX THEM IMMEDIATELY.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL DOES NOT MOVE INTO PARK WHEN SELECTED WITHOUT MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. OTHERWISE THE TRANSMISSION IS LEFT IN REVERSE. THE SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REDESIGNED!

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN PARK AFTER EXITING VEHICLE WHILE ENGINE WAS RUNNING WITH DRIVERS DOOR OPEN VEHICLE STARTED MOVING IN REVERSE. I HAD TO CHASE VEHICLE AND JUMP IN TO STOP VEHICLE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOTHING BEHIND VEHICLE
Structure, Other or unspecified, Mar 4, 2016, crash
I PUT CAR IN PARK AND GOT OUT OF VEHICLE. A FEW MOMENTS LATER I NOTICED THAT VEHICLE WAS ROLLING IN REVERSE DOWN MY STREET. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT. IT CONTINUED TO ROLL UNTIL CRASHING INTO A TREE. THERE IS BUMPER DAMAGE AND SCRATCHES AND DENTS TO THE BODY OF THE CAR.
Power train, Feb 28, 2016
AFTER PLACING MY VEHICLE IN PARK, I EXITED THE VEHICLE WITH IT STILL RUNNING AND ENTERED MY HOUSE FOR 3-4 MINUTES. WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE HOUSE, THE CAR HAD BACKED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY AND DONE A U-TURN AND BACKED INTO A SNOW BANK. THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL, THEN.
Power train, Other or unspecified, Feb 28, 2016
CAR GOING FORWARD SLOWLY ....ATTEMPTING TO PARK CAR.... PLACED SHIFT LEVER TOWARDS PARK ,ALL THE WAY FORWARD...PUSHED THE IGNITION BUTTON.(TO SHUT OFF IGNITION). OPENED DRIVERS DOOR TO GET OUT & FOUND CAR MOVING BACKWARDS ,ENGINE STILL RUNNING .....APPLIED BRAKE, STOPPED CAR, NO DAMAGE....FOUND SHIFT LEVER INDICATOR TO BE IN REVERSE & ENGINE STILL RUNNING .... THINKING BACK I HAVE HAD OTHER TIMES WHEN I HAD THOUGHT CAR IGN. WAS OFF BUT WAS NOT........I HAVE DUPLICATED THIS CONDITION,ON PURPOSE, SEVERAL TIMES ,SENSE THEN ,IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT ........ENGINE WILL NOT SHUT OFF UNLESS CAR IS IN PARK......TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO PARK,,, BUT REVERSE,,,,IF CAR IS MOVING VERY SLIGHTLY FORWARD MAKING IGNITION BUTTON USELESS. NO SOLID FEELING FROM SHIFT LEVER THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK...........THIS IS MY 4TH JEEP GRAND CHER. ALL WITH CONSULE SHIFT, & OVER 150,000 ON EACH WITH NO SUCH PROBLEMS.
Power train, Feb 26, 2016
I FEEL THE 8 SPEED AUTOMATIC SHIFT LEVER IS DANGEROUS AT BEST AND COULD RESULT IN A DEADLY ACCIDENT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE THOUGHT I WAS IN PARK , PRESSED THE OFF BUTTON AND WENT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE ONLY TO FIND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND I WAS IN REVERSE. SINCE THE SHIFTER ALWAYS RETURNS TO THE CENTER POSITION, THERE IS NO POSITIVE "FEEL" THAT THE LEVER IS INDEED IN PARK. I KNOW YOU CAN SAY I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED DOWN TO BE SURE THE ENGINE WAS ACTUALLY OFF, AND YOU ARE CORRECT, BUT AFTER SOME 50 YEARS OF DRIVING I KNOW WHEN I THINK I HAVE SHIFTED INTO PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND WITH THIS CAR YOU JUST CAN'T TELL. ON ONE OCCASION I EVEN EXITED THE CAR, AND WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE TRUNK NOTICED THE FOB WOULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK. SUSPECTING THE FOB SWITCH WAS FAILING, I OPENED THE CAR DOOR AND FOUND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. THANKFULLY, I HAD PARKED IN A SMALL POTHOLE IN AN OTHERWISE FLAT PARKING LOT AND IDLE SPEED WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR THE CAT TO DRIVE ITSELF OUT OF THE HOLE. ADDITIONALLY, IF YOU ACCIDENTLY BUMP THE SHIFTER OUT OF DRIVE WHILE IN MOTION AND INTO NEUTRAL, WHEN YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND BUMP BACK INTO DRIVE, THERE IS A SEVERAL SECOND LAG BEFORE DRIVE PICKS BACK UP. NOT HORRIBLE ON LOW TRAFFIC ROADS, BUT COULD BE A REAL HAZARD ON AN EXPRESSWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. GENERAL SAFETY OF THIS ENTIRE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED.

SUBJECT: 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE GEAR SHIFTER COMMENTS: I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE POOR DESIGN OF THE GEAR SHIFTER ON THE 2014 & 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. I OWN ONE OF THESE VEHICLES. THE DESIGN OF THE SHIFTER IS TERRIBLE! AFTER SEVERAL 'MISS-SHIFTS', (I STEPPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE, THINKING IT WAS IN PARK, IT WASNT!!) I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR NOW (VERIFYING GEAR POSITION ON INSTRUMENT PANEL) AND I ALWAYS SET MY PARKING BRAKE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT THIS VEHICLE BE RECALLED AND A FIX BE IMPLEMENTED. JEEP REALIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM AS THERE WAS A REDESIGN FOR 2016.
Power train, Structure, Feb 17, 2016
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO POOR DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE, THE SHIFTER WOULD EASILY SHIFT INTO REVERSE INSTEAD OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT, WHO WAS A MECHANIC, STATED THAT THE DESIGN PRESENTED A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY DEVELOPED A CRACK LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CRACK EXTENDED APPROXIMATELY 7 INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD AND OVER THE HEATING ELEMENT. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE HEATING ELEMENT WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,500.

WE BOUGHT OUR GRAND CHEROKEE AT FALLS MOTOR CITY AND THEY OFFERED US A FREE FIRST OIL CHANGE. AT 7000 MILES WE TOOK IT IN HAD THE OIL CHANGE. DEALER NEVER RESET OIL LIGHT DROVE IT HOME NEXT DAY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. FOUND OIL IN EVERYTHING. TOOK TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALER THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE SAYING THAT WAS ISSUE. THAT DIDNT FIX IT. SECOND TIME THEY CHANGED CRANKCASE SENSOR SINCE IT HAD OIL IN IT. STILL DIDNT FIX IT. 3RD TIME THEY REPLACED THE CRANKCASE COVER FOR OIL CAP SINCE IT WAS LEAKING. AFTER 7000 MILES THEY FOUND THAT THE JEEP HAD 11 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO ONLY HAVE 8 IN IT. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS 8 QUARTS BUT I HAVE FOUND ONLINE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAS MORE THEN 8 QUARTS IN THEIR ECO DIESEL. DUE TO THIS WE HAD LOST 5MPG AND USED EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF DEF. FALLS MOTOR CITY SAID THAT THERE WONT BE ANY ISSUE NOW THAT THE OTHER DEALER PUT THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL IN IT. THERE IS STILL OIL IN EVERYTHING. THE MILEAGE HAS GONE BACK UP SOME BUT STILL NOT GETTING WHAT IT USED TO BE. IM WORRIED NOW THAT LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD THE MOTOR WILL FAIL OR SOMETHING ON THE MOTOR WILL FAIL DUE TO OIL BEING PUSHED EVERYWHERE ELSE SINCE IT WAS OVERFILLED. THIS ALL HAPPENED BACK IN OCTOBER 2015 AND JUST THE END OF JAN IS WHEN EVERYTHING WAS FIGURED OUT TOO MUCH OIL WAS PUT IN. ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS CHRYSLER MESSED UP AND HAD IN THEIR SYSTEMS THAT THE ECO DIESEL WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE 11 QUARTS AND NOT 8 SINCE OTHER VEHICLES HAVE HAD THAT MUCH PUT IN ALSO AT THE DEALER. IT SAYS 8 QUARTS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL.
