  1. Back over prevention, sensing system, cameraSep 12, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. 1. Steering, Dec 1, 2018

I PURCHASED THIS JEEP BRAND NEW. I CAN HARDLY MAINTAIN MY LANE WHILE TRAVELING OVER 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM ALL OVER THE ROAD. I HAVE TO HOLD ON TIGHTLY WITH TWO HANDS. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL JEEPS OVER THE YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THE 1" IN THE PLAY OF MY STEERING WHEEL WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE JEEP DOES NOT MOVE OR RESPOND UNTIL YOU GO PAST THAT 1" GAP. I HAVE ALSO ALMOST WRECKED DUE TO OVER CORRECTING. A CAR CAME INTO MY LANE WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. I SWERVED, BUT DUE TO THE STEERING BOX NOT RESPONDING TO WHAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DOING, I ALMOST FLIPPED IT. VERY SCARY. IT IS NOT FUN TO DRIVE AND I HAVE CONTEMPLATED GETTING RID OF IT.

  2. Steering, Suspension, Wheels, Dec 1, 2018

ONCE MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER HIT OVER 16.5K MILES, WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL/WHEELS SHAKE VIGOROUSLY AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IS TO BRING THE SPEED BELOW 60 MPH, WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM ALSO NOW NOTICING THAT THE STEERING/SUSPENSION FEELS DIFFERENT WHEN TRAVELING ON SECONDARY ROADS WHEN HITTING BUMPS ON THE ROAD. THIS STARTED 2 WEEKS AGO WAS MINOR AND IS CONTINUING TO GET WORSE.

  3. Steering, Dec 1, 2018

THERE IS A DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING AT CENTER . WHEN I'M DRIVING I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING TO MAKE IT GO STRAIGHT . THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS . THE VEHICLE WONDERS AND I'M SURE IT LOOKS LIKE THERE'S A DRUNK DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL . I CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL 15 DEGREES BACK AND FORTH IN EITHER DIRECTION WHILE DRIVING AND NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM THE STEERING . THAT'S THE DEAD SPOT . THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A LANE .

  4. Steering, Dec 1, 2018

MY NEW JL HAS 2600 MILES ON IT AND I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THE AMOUNT OF PLAY (COUPLE INCHES OF FREE PLAY) MOST NOTICEABLE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT FLOATS BACK AND FORTH, REQUIRING CONSTANT CORRECTION. I HAD A 2.5' LIFT INSTALLED, AND FIRST THOUGHT THIS WAS THE ISSUE. AFTER READING ALL THE ACCOUNTS OF STEERING, MINE IS EXACTLY AS PEOPLE ARE DESCRIBING. I'VE HAD THE LIFT LOOK AT, ALIGNMENT REDONE, WHEELS BALANCED, AND STILL SEEMS SLOPPY AND UNSAFE. MY PARTICULAR VIN DOES NOT SHOW IT ON THE RECALL, BUT THIS IS HORRIBLY DANGEROUS. I'M DRIVING HOME TO SEE MY FOLK IN A COUPLE DAYS AND AM SCARED OF MY 40K NEW JEEP. PLEASE MAKE THEM DO A FULL RECALL TO INVESTIGATE ALL STEERING ISSUES. I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED A 'SHIMMY SHAKING ' WHILE ON HIGHWAY SPEEDS TURNING AND WEIGHT SHIFTS. NOT LIKE A VIOLENT DEARH WOBBLE, BUT STILL COMPLETELY SHAKING THE JEEP. I SUPPOSE IF WHILE ON MY DRIVE HOME NEXT WEEK I CRASH, LET THIS BE A WARNING AND EYE OPENER THAT THERE IS SOMETHING DEFINITELY NOT SAFE ABOUT IT. I DON'T HAVE HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE TO DRIVING SOMETHING ELSE. NOR SHOULD WE HAVE TO BE WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING OUR VERY EXPENSIVE NEW VEHICLES..

  5. Steering, Nov 30, 2018

JEEP WRANGLER JL SPORT (2 DR) BUILD DATE 6/18 PURCHASED 7/18 CURRENTLY 1243 MILE ON THE ODOMETER. SINCE THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALER THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY WANDERS LEFT AND RIGHT REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE OF ROAD SURFACE. I RECENTLY TOOK THE JEEP ON A STRAIGHT AND LEVEL ROAD AND COULD NOT TRAVEL MORE THAN 25 YARDS AT 45 MPH WITHOUT MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LEAST 1.5 INCHES. I HAVE ADJUSTED THE TIRE PRESSURE UP AND DOWN FROM THE FACTORY SETTING WITH NO CHANGE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE JEEP JL, IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS OWN LANE CREATING CONTROL PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM INTENSIFIES WITH SPEED

  6. Steering, Wheels, Nov 30, 2018

MY VEHICLE HAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ON THE HIGHWAY AT ANY SPEEDS ABOVE 55 MPH. IF I HIT A SMALL BUMP ON THE ROAD, SUCH AS A HIGHWAY JOINT, MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY AND MY WHEELS ALSO UNCONTROLLABLY VIBRATE. I AM UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IMMEDIATELY TRY TO SLOW DOWN AND HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AS HARD AS I CAN.

  7. Steering, Suspension, Nov 30, 2018

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SEVERE WOBBLING OVER BUMPS TO THE POINT THAT THE ENTIRE CAR AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE POINT WHERE IS RISKS A CRASH. THIS CONDITION IS PRESENT AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

  8. Steering, Suspension, Nov 29, 2018

CHANGING LANES ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF FRONT END. VIOLENT SHAKING AND NEARLY CRASHED. STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND COULD NOT STEER.

  9. Steering, Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Nov 29, 2018

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN AND APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE WAS VEERING TO THE RIGHT. ALMOST WENT OFF ROAD AND HIT GUARD RAIL. VEHICLE ALSO HAS AN ISSUE WITH STEERING ON STRAIGHT AWAYS WANTS TO WANDER ALL OVER HIGHWAY, HAD TIRES/WHEELS/AND ALIGNMENT INSPECTED EVERYTHING CAME BACK FINE NO ANSWER FOR WHY VEHICLE WANDERS AND VEHICLE CONSTANTLY GOES RIGHT WHILE BRAKING

  10. Steering, Nov 29, 2018

DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED TWICE AT SPEED OF 70-75 MPH

  11. Steering, Nov 29, 2018

THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. IT SEEMS TO FLOAT ALL OVER THE ROAD AND REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTION. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSE MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING.

  12. Steering, Nov 29, 2018

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 64 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND EXHIBITED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE CONTACT REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK UNTIL IT SLOWED DOWN TO 40 MPH AND THE SHAKING STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WHITTEN BROTHERS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (10701 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, RICHMOND, VA 23235, (804) 378-0707) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING DAMPER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.

  13. Steering, Nov 29, 2018

MY STEERING SEEMS TO BIND WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. IT WILL BIND THEN LET GO CAUSING OVERSTEERING. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. THE PROBLEM IS ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE TWO OCCASIONS WHEN THE STEERING WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO TURN THE WHEEL 1/4 TO THE LEFT. I HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS AND PULL REAL HARD TO TURN THE JEEP A FRACTION. IT SEEMS LIKE THE PROBLEM IS WORSE WHEN IT IS COLD. THIS PROBLEM WAS ALSO ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO INTERMITTENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. BOTH PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE GETTING WORSE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE DEALERSHIP NOW BUT THEY HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEMS.

  14. Steering, Other or unspecified, Nov 28, 2018

WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS STEERING SEEMS LOOSE AND NOT VERY RESPONSIVE. IT TAKES A GOOD DEAL OF TURN IN THE WHEEL FOR IT TO MOVE THE WHEELS A LITTLE. IF YOU HAVE TO MOVE QUICKLY THE WHEEL DOES NOT REACT. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IF YOU NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND MOVE THE WHEEL IT DOES NOT RESPOND, IN MY OPTION THE STEERING IS TOO LOOSE AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY RESISTANCE BEHIND THE WHEEL AND IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

  15. Steering, Suspension, Nov 28, 2018

WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. GOING ABOUT 60 MPH STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND BEGAN TO SHAKE AGGRESSIVELY. HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES AND GET IT DOWN TO 40 MPH BEFORE STEERING WILL UNLOCK. VEHICLE NOW IN JEEP DEALERSHIP WITH NO RESOLUTION. IN ADDITION I'VE HAD SHOOTING PAIN DON BACK FROM AGGRESSIVE SHAKING.

  16. Steering, Wheels, Nov 28, 2018

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT A SPEED OF 65 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY, MAIN HIGHWAY. WITHOUT WARNING, THE JEEP WENT INTO A "DEATH WOBBLE" AND WAS UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST TO A STOP ALONG THE SHOULDER. ONLY UPON BRINGING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP DID THE THE VIOLENT SHAKING STOP. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR PROPERLY AFTER THAT, AS THE STEERING WAS LOOSE AND NOT CORRECTLY CONTROLLED. I MADE IT TO A GAS STATION WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY AND WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP FROM THERE.

  17. Steering, Nov 28, 2018

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70-75 MPH AND THE FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END WERE VISIBLY SHAKING. HAD TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY IN WHICH THEY STATED IT WAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". PARTS NOT AVAILABLE TO FIX FOR 5-6 MORE MONTHS (APRIL - MAY 2019). COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE CONSIDERING IT'S BRAND NEW, I COMMUTE 5 DAYS A WEEK (120 HIGHWAY MILES A DAY) AND ALSO TRANSPORT TWO SMALL CHILDREN TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. I ALSO SUFFER FROM PANIC ATTACKS, IN WHICH THIS INCIDENT BROUGHT ON A FULL BLOWN ATTACK. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY IN THIS VEHICLE.

  18. Steering, Suspension, Wheels, Nov 28, 2018

UA5/NHTSA 18V-675 TRACK BAR WELD RECALL. I HAD THE REQUIRED INSPECTION DONE TWO WEEKS AGO, BUT DEALER WON'T DO THE WELDING. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE MAKE THE LOCAL DEALER FIX THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. I'VE EVEN TRIED A DEALER 1 HOUR 40 MINUTE DRIVE FROM ME HERE IN ARIZONA, THEY WON'T DO IT EITHER.

  19. Steering, Nov 28, 2018

'TAKATARECALL' STEERING WHEEL STUCK ON VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY TO LEFT SIDE CAUSING ME TO ALMOST GOING OFF SIDE OF ROAD HAD TO JERK STEERING WHEEL BACK ALMOST LOSING CONTROL, WAS ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL WITH BOTH HANDS ON WHEEL

  20. Steering, Nov 28, 2018

JUST PURCHASED A NEW JEEP WRANGLER JL RUBICON AND IT HAS MAJOR STEERING ISSUES. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THE CAR IN A STRAIGHT LINE DUE TO EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING. ON A WINDY DAY IT ACTUALLY DANGEROUS AND ON ONE OCCASION I ALMOST HIT A GUARDRAIL ON THE INTERSTATE. THE WANDERING IS MOST NOTICEABLE ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS IS NOT CAUSED BY ANY SPECIFIC ROAD SURFACE. I WANTED TO DOCUMENT THIS JUST IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME OR MY VEHICLE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER WRANGLER OWNERS 2018 JL MODEL THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I ONLY HAVE 2500 MILES BUT ANOTHER ISSUE THAT I HAVEN'T YET EXPERIENCED IN MY JEEP YET BUT THERE IS A DANGEROUS SHIMMY WHEN HITTING BRIDGE OVER PASSES, EXPANSION JOINT IN THE ROAD WHEN YOUR GOING 55-65 MPH. WOULD BE NICE IF GOVT COULD STEP IN AND ACCELERATE THE FIX AND MAKE FIAT CHRYSLER FIX THESE JEEPS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED DRIVING THEIR JEEP.

  21. Steering, Suspension, Other or unspecified, Nov 27, 2018

EXTREME WOBBLE AND SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH CONTINUES WELL PAST THE ROAD IMPERFECTIONS THAT CAUSED THE SPECIFIC TYPE OF SUSPENSION TRAVEL. STARTED UNDER 1000 MILES. HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES EVERY WORKDAY - CAN BE REPLICATED. THIS VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK AND BRAND NEW. IF DRIVING AROUND A SLIGHT TURN WITH SMALL BUMPS THE VEHICLE STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND KEEPS SHAKING FOR 20-30 SECONDS UNTIL THE TRAVELING SPEED IS REDUCED TO 50 MPH WHICH IS NOT A SAFE SPEED AT TIMES. 2 STEADY HANDS MUST BE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND CHANGING LANES IS NOT POSSIBLE. HAD TO MAKE AN AVOIDANCE MANEUVER DURING THE SHAKING AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. UNKNOWN COMPONENTS AND PARTS CAUSE THE EXTREME SHAKING/WOBBLING. THIS STATEMENT IS TO DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM; THERE WILL BE VIDEOS AND REPAIR INVOICES IN THE FUTURE BUT SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THERE ARE NO FIXES FOR THE PROBLEM CALLED DEATH WOBBLE. I AM CURRENTLY ON A "WAITING LIST" FOR A REPAIR ATTEMPT. I WILL CALL FOR AN UPDATE WITH THE DEALERSHIP 11/30/18. THE TIRES ARE STOCK AND AT PROPER PRESSURE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE VEHICLE.

  22. Steering, Nov 27, 2018

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MY STEERING WILL SHIMMY VIOLENTLY, UNTIL SLOWED DOWN TREMENDOUSLY OR COMPLETELY STOPPED

  23. Steering, Nov 27, 2018

WHEN DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND VEHICLE HITS A BUMP OR BRIDGE LIP, VEHICLE SHAKES AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THIS OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 22, 2018 AND NOW IT HAS CONTINUED WHEN I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE WITH POSTED SPEED OF 70.

  24. Steering, Suspension, Nov 26, 2018

AT 60 MILES PER HOUR ON THE INTERSTATE VEHICLE STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND VIBRATING. HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER. JEEP ONLY HAS 4300 MILES AND IS STOCK WITH NP MODIFICATIONS.
