Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The wiring harness for the rearview camera and the center brake light may short circuit, which can disable the rearview camera image and center brake light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a center brake light that fails to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers replaced the harness for the center brake light and rearview camera and/or the spare tire carrier/harness assembly, as necessary, free of charge. All vehicles were repaired by January 15, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. WHILE DRIVE FOR 30 MINUTES THE JEEP HAS A COMPLETE MALFUNCTION WITH ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND WAS UNABLE TO SHUT OFF ENGINE, AND ABS, POWER STEERING, GEAR SHIFTER, ELECTRICAL GAUGES, AUTO START STOP ENGINE SHUT OFF AND NAVIGATION SYSTEM. JEEP ONLY HAS 3800 MILES ON IT. MY FAMILY OF 5 WERE ALL IN THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE JEEP ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED SHUTTING OFF AND ON. WE PULLED INTO OUR STREET AND THE JEEP WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS OR TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THIS PUT US IN AN UNSAFE POSITION NOT KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WAS GOING LOOSE CONTROL. I PULLED OVER BUT THE JEEP WOULD NOT SHIFT AND ENDED UP BLOCKING TRAFFIC. WE FELT UNSAFE AND ANY SPEED, VERY SCARY FOR OUR FAMILY. THE CAR HAVE MULTIPLE DEFECTIVE PARTS INCLUDING STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE, CONSOLE SHIFT MODULE. THE CAR HAVE A HARD TIME SHIFTING IN TO APPROPRIATE GEAR. THOSE DEFECTIVE PARTS CAUSE ABS TO FAIL. WHEELS KEEP GETTING LOCKED WHEN BREAKING, LEADS TO INCREASED BREAKING DISTANCE.

MY POWER STEERING HAS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAYS, HIGHWAYS, AND RESIDENTIAL STREETS. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER, INCLUDING RAINY DAYS AND DRY DAYS, SO THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY SORT OF IMPACT ON THE ISSUE. WHEN THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP THE VEHICLE THROWS AROUND 50 CODES, WHICH THE DEALERSHIP HAS RESET MORE THAN ONCE. EACH TIME THE STEERING LOCKS UP I HAVE TO SLAM ON MY BREAKS AND TURN MY CAR ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE STEERING STARTS WORKING AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE - ON 11/30/2019 AND TODAY (12/29/2019) - AND HAVE CALLED MANY, MANY TIMES TRYING TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE OR KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I PICKED MY JEEP UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SECOND TIME EARLIER TODAY, AND MY STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AGAIN AFTER DRIVING IT 20 MILES. THIS TIME NOT ONLY DID THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCK UP, BUT THE BREAKS WERE MALFUNCTIONING AS WELL. EACH TIME I TAKE MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CLAIM THAT THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE SWAY BAR DISCONNECT, WHICH MAKES NO SENSE. BASED ON MY RESEARCH THERE AND MANY, MANY STOCK 2019 WRANGLERS THAT ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T TAKEN CARE OF WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY, SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP LOSING THEIR LIFE. I AM TIRED OF GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND BEING PUSHED OUT THE DOOR EACH TIME BEING TOLD THAT THE ISSUE IS FIXED WHEN IT CLEARLY ISN'T. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR THIS ISSUE TO GET RESOLVED?

I RECENTLY RENTED A 2019 JEEP WRANGLER FROM AVIS AT MCCARRAN AIRPORT IN LAS VEGAS. THE AVIS VEHICLE NUMBER WAS 90380010. THE RENTAL AGREEMENT NUMBER WAS 420140943. THE VEHICLE HAD AN AFTERMARKET PIECE OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT INSTALLED BY AVIS UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DASHBOARD, PROBABLY A GPS DEVICE OF SOME KIND. THE DEVICE WAS PLUGGED INTO THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THE LEFT HAND WALL OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, WITH A CORD ABOUT 12-18 INCHES LONG STRETCHED OUT UNDER THE DASHBOARD. THE DEVICE WAS VERY POORLY INSTALLED. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE DEVICE DROPPED OUT FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD, AND THE CORD WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND THE BRAKE PEDAL, WITH THE DEVICE ITSELF FALLING IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE PEDAL. THE ACTUAL DEVICE WAS ABOUT 2 INCHES BY 3 INCHES. IT BLOCKED THE BRAKE PEDAL, REDUCING AVAILABLE BRAKING BY 80 PERCENT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED ON A QUIET STREET AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A HALT.
