Recalls and investigations

  1. Back over prevention, sensing system, cameraSep 12, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The wiring harness for the rearview camera and the center brake light may short circuit, which can disable the rearview camera image and center brake light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a center brake light that fails to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers replaced the harness for the center brake light and rearview camera and/or the spare tire carrier/harness assembly, as necessary, free of charge. All vehicles were repaired by January 15, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. 4. Steering, Suspension, Jul 27, 2021

I own a 2019 Jeep Rubicon and the steering wheel rotates violently (~25° back and forth) while driving at any speed and when I hit a bump on the road. Even a small bump on the road causes this problem. I have researched this and some Jeep websites call it a ‘death wobble’. 25° violent steering wheel rotation at 70 mph is very startling it is an extremely unsafe. It almost caused me to crash on more than 3 occasions. There are no apparent recalls about this issue but this problem is reported on several Jeep websites. Are there any plans to implement any sort of safety warning or a recall about this problem? Thank you and please keep me posted.

Vehicle under recall since January. Received email in April that part was available. Called dealer who said not available. Went again today to dealer who says part is not available. Do not want to drive a vehicle that could catch fire with our child in it!

  8. Steering, Power train, Electrical system, Jul 1, 2021

The check engine light came on one evening. The next morning during driving the dashboard flashed a "Service Shifter" warning. Then a series of other warnings all light up. The dashboard flashed like it was malfunctioning. The Jeep lost power steering and stuck in the current gear I was in. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. They have had it now for four days. And, they have no idea what's wrong with it.

  9. Steering, Jun 20, 2021

The steering on JL 2019 has been a problem from the start. The steering wheel damper was replaced and the steering is still a problem. There is too much play in the steering which has been the cause of several potential accidents especially at highway speeds.

  10. Power train, Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Jun 18, 2021

Service Axle Locker System light appears on dashboard. If the axle locker engages accidentally in the wrong conditions, it could cause a crash. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times. This is the 3rd visit to the dealer. The first time they said they would change the axle, but then it was on backorder so they flushed the differential and cleaned some metal parts they said was fouling the sensor. I drove it away and they same problem occurred. The second visit they changed a sensor. Now the problem is back and I'm waiting to hear their "solution".

  11. Steering, Jun 7, 2021

  12. Suspension, May 21, 2021

Above 65, if I hit a bump, my Jeep gets the "Death Wobble" reported in many other Jeeps. I am scheduled to have the Damper replaced, but many forums state this is only a band-aid and will wear out or won't truly fix the problem.

  13. Power train, May 21, 2021

Repeated service axle locker system warnings. Front axle replaced. New DTCM and wire installed

  14. Other or unspecified, May 21, 2021

The Uconnect Radio keeps freezing and restarting all the time. This is troublesome when you cannot use your backup camera or your navigation system. It is a distraction to the driver. You cannot turn down the volume, change the temperature or anything else during this freeze and rebooting.

WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY MY DASH LIGHTS AND INFO DISPLAY START RUNNING A SEQUENCE THAT GOES THROUGH A MULTITUDE OF WARNINGS AND SERVICE CHECKS ON THE VEHICLES SYSTEMS, I LOSE POWER STEERING FOR A BIT THEN LIGHTS GO OUT, BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ESS STAY ON. WHEN REMOTE STARTING MY JEEP THE SAME THING KIND OF HAPPENS ONLY THE WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT GO OUT QUICKLY AND I CANNOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, AFTER SOME TIME USUALLY A 1/2 TO A FULL DAY OF WAITING THE LIGHTS GO OUT EXECEPT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ESS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A LOOSE NEGITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CONNECTION, ABOUT THREE MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT DID THE LIGHTS AND STEERING THING AGAIN.

I HAVE HAD DEATH WOBBLE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES ON MY 2019 JEEP WRANGLER THE DEALER SUPPOSEDLY FIX IT, BUT I EXPERIENCED IT AGAIN AFTER FIX. IT HAPPENS WHEN U ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD LIKE A HOLE THE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATES VIOLENTLY

  20. Steering, Visibility/wiper, Mar 31, 2021

I HAVE NOTICED AT HIGH SPEEDS WHEN I AM DRIVING AND I GO OVER A POT HOLE OR EVEN WHEN I GO OVER A RUMBLE STRIP I GET AN AGGRESSIVE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE. ANOTHER ISSUE WOULD BE THE PASSENGER VISOR IT BROKE WHEN MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 36,600K MILES. I HARDLY USE THE VISOR ONE DAY MY PASSENGER OUT THE VISOR DOWN TO COVER THE SUN FROM FACE AND IT JUST FELL FROM THE CORNER.

  21. Steering, Wheels, Other or unspecified, Mar 29, 2021

AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 75+ MPH, I PASSED OVER SOME UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND MY STEERING AND CHASSIS BEGAN SHAKING FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS. WHEN I SLOWED DOWN, IT STOPPED; HOWEVER, IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS GOING TO COME OFF AND THE TIRES WERE GOING TO FLY OFF OF MY CAR.

  23. Steering, Mar 23, 2021

I OWN A 2018 AND 2019 JEEP WRANGLER. I DRIVE BOTH OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN YOUR DRIVING THESE JEEPS WHEN YOU HIT A BIT YOU LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING. WHEN I WAS YOUNGER WITH NOT GREAT CARS THIS WOULD BE CALLED HIGH SPEED WOBBLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED

  24. Steering, Suspension, Mar 19, 2021

MY 2019 RUBICON FROM DAY 1 HAS HAD A DANGEROUS WANDERING ISSUE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON A STRAIGHT TRACK AND SOMETIMES TO EVEN STAY IN YOUR LANE. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY IN WINDY CONDITIONS. WRANGLER STYLE JEEPS ARE KNOWN FOR CATCHING THE WIND HOWEVER, WITH THE WANDERING PROBLEM IN THE STEERING YOU TEND TO OVERSTEER TO COMPENSATE MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS THE FIRST DAY I BOUGHT IT NEW AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS HOW JEEPS ARE. I KNOW HOW ALL VEHICLES ARE AND WHERE THEY CROSS THE LINE WITH A SAFETY ISSUE. IF YOU GO ON LINE AND PUNCH IN JEEP WANDERING ISSUES THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF POST ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT JEEP JUST IGNORES THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULDN'T BE TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE THIS IF IT WERE JUST AN INCONVENIENCE. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. MY WIFE HAS A 2019 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND IT RIDES LIKE A LUXURY CAR. SHE WON;T EVEN DRIVE MY RUBICON BECAUSE SHE IS SO SCARED OF HOW IT WANDERS. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE CONSTANTLY COMPENSATED BACK AND FORTH TO KEEP IT IN LINE. SO MUCH SO THAT I WORRY SOME TIMES THAT IF THERE WERE A COP IN BACK OF ME THAT HE WOULD THINK I WAS IMPAIRED THE WAY THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS BACK AND FORTH. I BOUGHT MY 4 DOOR 2019 RUBICON BRAND NEW AND IT ONLY HAS 21,000 MILES ON IT NOW. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO BE AFRAID TO DRIVE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE WITH A SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS AND JEEP SHOULD HAVE FIXED THIS OBVIOUS ISSUE AND NOT BE IGNORING IT. LETS NOT WAIT TILL SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND HUNDREDS OF POST I HAVE READ IT APPEARS THIS PROBLEM IS LIMITED TO WRANGLER MODEL JEEPS. PLEASE HELP!!

  25. Steering, Suspension, Mar 18, 2021

STEERING HAS EXTREMELY TOO MUCH PLAY. THE VEHICLE VEERS EVERYWHERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY IF YOU HIT A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
