Recalls and investigations

  1. Electrical systemJan 26, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured March 7, 2007, to November 26, 2013, and 2014 Nissan Rogue Select vehicles manufactured September 23, 2013, to July 2, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience an electrical short in the harness connector due to a mixture of snow/water and salt seeping through the carpet on the driver side floor near the harness connector.

An electrical short can cause a vehicle fire.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the kick panel wiring harness connector and will if necessary install a new harness connector and waterproof seal, free of charge. The recall began on February 26, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 ROGUE VEHICLES. A SCREW IN THE STEERING GEAR HOUSING COVER MAY LOOSEN OVER TIME AND COULD FALL OUT. AS IT LOOSENS, THE STEERING RESPONSE OF THE VEHICLE MAY BE COMPROMISED BUT THE DRIVER WILL RETAIN STEERING CONTROL.

THE SCREW MAY EVENTUALLY COME OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR COVER. IF LARGE STEERING INPUTS ARE MADE WITH THE COVER SCREW MISSING THE PINION SHAFT MAY COME OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR RESULTING IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT WHETHER THE STEERING GEAR COVER SCREW IS LOOSE AND WILL BE RETIGHTENED TO THE PROPER SPECIFICATION. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSTALL A COVER PLATE TO PREVENT THE SCREW FROM POSSIBLY COMING OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. 1. Air bags, Jun 15, 2026

I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The air bag light came on, blinking red around 3 weeks ago. It has been red blinking continuously whenever the vehicle is on since then. I brought the car to my local auto repair shop to check it. They hooked up to it and discovered the issue. They said the code was B1018 (OCS), air bag... They gave me a recall notice that detailed the issue, and said that the dealership would repair this for free. The NHTSA #/Campaign ID# says it includes B8242 (Murano, Rogue, 350Z). I made an appointment at my local Nissan Dealership (Advantage Nissan in Bremerton, WA), and when I went in there they said there are no open recalls and I spent FIVE hours in there. They said they tested passenger side seat airbags and they do NOT work, but here are two options... one is not an option, because we didn't find a whole new seat, but we found another option- take the airbag system out of a seat and put it in yours for $884.98. That's your option. You pay. (Or a new seat would be over $5000, but we can't find one because they don't make them anymore.) I purchased this vehicle in 2019. I haven't gotten any notices about this. This is a SAFETY issue. I can not drive with a passenger in the car. The cost of this issue should be covered- it was a viable recall.

  2. Air bags, Oct 6, 2025

A light on my car's dashboard started flashing, indicating a problem with the airbag. This started after two days of not driving.

  3. Air bags, Seat belts, Oct 3, 2025

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving on Highway I-10 at 65 MPH, there was an extremely loud popping sound coming from the vehicle. The contact immediately pulled over, assuming there was a failure with the tire. Upon further investigation with her parents, it was determined that the tires were intact, and the abnormal sound came from the side air bag deploying unintendedly. Additionally, the seat belt seized. The vehicle was towed to the local Nissan dealer, where it was diagnosed with an erroneous rollover detection by the crash sensor, which triggered the deployment of the side air bags. The crash sensor detected a rollover, causing the side airbag to deploy. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a case, and informed the contact that a response would be provided later. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

  9. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Feb 27, 2023

Problem 1: I always put my purse on the passenger seat, and the air bag deactivation light turns on on the dashboard. One day, I took the purse off yet the light did not turn off. Ever since then the airbag light has been on. The car has been fixed by Nissan since then for another recall, but the airbag was not fixed as they said it was not a recall. When I took it to Nissan to access having them fix the issue last year, they said I would have to pay about $600 out of pocket. The year it occurred was 2014, and the car has not been driven much since then. Problem 2: The left rear door's handle simply broke off in my hand last year. When I took the car to Nissan to see if they stand behind their handles staying on cars, and would replace it, but they gave me an estimate upwardsnof $600 to repair it. Problem 3: The gas guage does not read properly, as I found put when it ran out of gas yet the car was reading a half full tank. Repair estimate for this issue was about $600. Problem 4: The tires always read as flat, even when taken to get filled by a professional. Nissan's estimate to fix this issue was approximately $600. I was informed by Nissan of the Avenues (Jacksonville, Florida) that there are recalls for EVERY SINGLE ONE of those issues for the 2008 Nissan Rogue, but just not for MY specific vehicle.

  10. Air bags, Sep 22, 2022

While driving to work passenger airbag light came on and wouldn't shut off, regardless of whether or not a person was sitting there, in addition the airbag warning light on the dash also came on. I took the car to an independent mechanic who told me it was an OCS issue (Code B1018). After a little research I found a recall for this issue on my model car (NHTSA Ref# 08V521000) but my VIN is excluded. Contacted a local dealer and was told it would likely be $2,500 for a new seat cushion. This severely affects any passengers safety in my vehicle and should be addressed by Nissan.

  11. Air bags, Aug 15, 2022

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The contact called an unknown local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). 1.Frame bracket has rusted out and dealer only sells whole frame. VERY EXPENSIVE *It is obviously an issue which has not been addressed but has been *noted on internet. (went after market to repair still at $775!) 2. Airbags system light now on and was on recall in the past. Dealer will only look at it for $100. * Noted on internet as a continuous issue for some. 3. Cruise Control on past recall. Has not functioned since dealer fixed in recall. *Still turns on by itself and will not go off unless I turn vehicle off. **Definite safety issue** 4. Parking brake not functioning properly was also on recall. If I use it then it will not release all the way and continues to drag. USELESS. Have had repaired 2 times by mechanic since recall. 5. Transmission replaced on SILENT recall with extended warranty. Had issues from almost the start. WHY would I purchase another Nissan of any type? Vehicle 2008 Nissan Rogue is 13 1/2 years old with only 76,000 miles. No way should it have these issues. It has never been in an accident! I love the vehicle but not these issues. I will be replacing this vehicle in the future with a competitor.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System) which he linked to the failure. The contact's stepsister called the dealer and was provided an estimate for the repair after being informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact then called and informed the manufacturer of the recall however, the manufacturer stated that they had no record of the recall. The manufacturer then referred him to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

  15. Air bags, Sep 24, 2021

This happened a few years ago. I would always place my purse on the passenger seat when driving. The air bag deactivation sensor would be tripped due to a lightweight item being placed on the passenger seat. One day, approximately 4 years ago, I noticed the light warning that it was deactivating would not turn off. After a couple of months of this still being on, I took it into Coggin Nissan at the Avenues of Jacksonville. As I was getting signed in to the service department, they quoted me $150 just to look at the car. I recounted that it is an obvious safety hazard, as the air bags are involved, and there was a recall for the 2008 Rogue for that very issue. I asked for my car back and left. Then called to place a complaint. Nothing came of it, as the car was our second vehicle, and it is rarely driven. The car was purchased late in 2007, as a flagship Rogue. It has 125,000 miles, and should be able to be driven more often, especially when we have family visiting, but it sits unused except for little jaunts in the neighborhood, or if there is no other recourse.

  16. Air bags, Aug 5, 2021

The passenger airbag warning light shows the airbag will not engage when a passenger is in the front seat. I just bought this car used from a private party. The photograph below shows when the ignition is turned on and I am sitting in the front passenger seat with my seat belt on. The light never turns off when I’m a passenger or when I have a passenger in the front seat. I am afraid the airbag will not work in a front end collision.

  17. Air bags, Aug 5, 2021

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the air bag warning light constantly flashed while driving. Additionally, the passenger’s side air bag warning light remained illuminated while passenger’s seat was occupied. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was then informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I PURCHASED MY NISSAN ROGUE IN 2010. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING IT A RED WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYED ON THE DASH INDICATING AN AIRBAG PROBLEM. A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT THAT DETERMINES IF SOMEONE IS SEATED THERE OR NOT. I WAS UNABLE TO AFFORD A NEW SENSOR. I CHECKED NHTSA RECALLS AND LOCATED RECALL# 08V521000. WHILE THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM MY NISSAN ROGUE IS EXPERIENCING, PER MY VIN, MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
