Recalls and investigations

  1. Electrical system, ignition, anti-theft, immobilizer/proximity, key/senderFeb 16, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

  2. Electrical system, wiring, interior/under dashJan 21, 2022

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Rogue vehicles. The electrical connector for the under dash harness may corrode due to water and salt intrusion from the driver's side foot well.

Corrosion in the electrical connector can result in power window/seat failure, all-wheel-drive warning light illumination, battery drainage, and electrical connector damage that increases the risk of a fire.

Dealers will remove the harness tape and harness covering and replace both connectors and apply white lithium grease to the connectors as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 23, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R21B9.

  3. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationDec 19, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.

If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall began February 13, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

  4. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationApr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. 1. Air bags, Sep 14, 2026

The passenger airbag is not activated. I bought car 6/11/26 and I don’t believe there was a problem or I did not notice it. I saw online that there was an airbag problem recall in the past.

  2. Other or unspecified, Sep 7, 2026

To date three of the outside door handles have broken off. The driver door handle which was repaired at Riverside Nissan in May 2025 for 442. The front right passenger door handle which was broken in early 2025- and remians unrepaired. The rear right passenger door handle which broke in the latest August 2026 incident. While the driver outside door handle was broken in early 2025 , I had to unlock the left rear passenger door - then reach in to unlock the driver door from the insde by reaching with my hand. Not easy since parking next to a curb means the car is sloped at an angle. These door handles are made of plastic. It could be a problem if there was an emergency and people were tring to get in the car - only to have the car handles break.

  3. Seat belts, Aug 28, 2026

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the front passenger's side seat belt locked up, preventing the passenger from using the seat belt. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the seat belt assembly failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,091.

  4. Air bags, Aug 20, 2026

Recently bought this car used with about 105,000 miles and I noticed that the air bag light comes on and stays on. Previous owner said it had always been an issue, but he was told that it would cost over $5000 to fix. He declined the repair. Since I bought it used I took it to the Nissan dealership for a diagnostic and complete lookover. I also asked if there was any recalls on that air bag light and was informed that there was none. I searched myself on your website and got the same information, but decided to check the complaints to see if anyone else had reported the same issue. I did find several that matched the description of my issue. This is a major safety concern as it would be difficult to trust whether or not driver and/or passenger would be protected in the event of an accident. So, why is this not a national recall for this vehicle????? I'm sure there would be a lot more complaints filed if more people knew that your services and information were available. I appreciate your consideration in making this a national concern for all drivers of the 2015 Nissan Rogue

  5. Electrical system, Aug 15, 2026

I am reporting a severe safety hazard and failure of a critical safety remedy on my 2015 Nissan Rogue. Over a 23-day period, a Faulkner Nissan, a certified Nissan dealer mismanaged a severe water intrusion defect. On April 28, 2026 (102,965 miles), I was charged $1,228.67 out-of-pocket for recall-related burnt and shorted harness connectors (Recall 22V024000 / R21B9). On May 13, 2026 (104,656 miles), the vehicle returned with electronic and steering errors; the dealer cleared active CAN codes and dismissed the issue. On May 21, 2026 (105,060 miles), the vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure. Ongoing water intrusion completely flooded the driver and passenger floorboards, rusted the structural floor, destroyed the previous repair, and shorted out the vehicle's tail lights. The vehicle is currently an active fire and crash hazard due to unmitigated water entry onto major wiring systems.

  6. Air bags, Seat belts, Aug 12, 2026

Date of Incident: [XXX] On [XXX], my sister and I traveled from Maryland to Newport News, Virginia, to celebrate with family. Upon returning home to Maryland, my sister attempted to fasten her front passenger seat belt but was unable to do so. I went around to the passenger side of the vehicle to assist her, but I was also unable to properly secure the seat belt. Because I have a strict safety rule requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts, I instructed my sister to move to the back seat so that she could travel safely. The following day, I took my vehicle to Auto Obsessions, located at 20 Southway, Greenbelt, MD 20770, for an inspection. After inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic informed me that the passenger-side seat belt was locked in place as though the vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision. I was advised that the seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The mechanic sent a link to my phone so that I could order the replacement part through eBay. I subsequently ordered the part. Once it was delivered, I planned to schedule an appointment with the mechanic to have the replacement installed. While investigating the problem, I learned that certain Nissan Rogue models from multiple model years have been subject to safety recalls involving the Occupant Classification System (OCS) and airbag control units, including issues that can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. Because of the seriousness of the safety issue I was experiencing, I contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236. I spoke with a NHTSA representative and explained what had occurred. I provided my vehicle identification number (VIN). The representative informed me that, although there was a recall involving my vehicle's year and model, my particular VIN was not included in the recall. I was advised to contact Nissan directly and ask whether Nissan would provide a "goodwill" assistance offer: INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  7. Power train, Aug 3, 2026

I acquired a 2015 Nissan Rogue, but it seems the transmission has failed. Interestingly, the transmission is identified as a 2014 model within the 2015 vehicle. I reached out to the dealership for clarification on whether the transmission had been replaced, but I received no assistance. Discussions in a Nissan forum reveal that this issue is common among Nissan vehicles, yet there is no official recall. Numerous owners have expressed concerns regarding the transmission's reliability. Given that my vehicle has only 82,000 miles, it is unexpected for the transmission to malfunction at this stage.

  8. Structure, Jul 16, 2026

I have a 2015 Nissan rogue select and the paint is peeling and chipping tremendously, on the driver side the paint is chipping so bad on the backseat door that half of the door is gray from missing paint!

  9. Visibility, Jul 7, 2026

The rear window shattered all of sudden.

  10. Air bags, Seat belts, Jun 22, 2026

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front passenger's side seat belt seized, and the air bag warning light illuminated. Additionally, the failure reoccurred while a minor grandchild was seated in the front passenger's seat. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The contact was advised to contact the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. In addition, the contact was informed that the vehicle had a Salvage Title. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

  11. Power train, Jun 17, 2026

The contact's daughter owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 40–45 MPH, the vehicle began making a whining sound. The "4WD Failure" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear differential was not operating properly. The local dealer was contacted for an estimate for the repair; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

  12. Visibility, May 7, 2026

The panoramic sunroof exploded while driving down the road. We almost crashed because it was so loud. It sounded like a gun shot. If the shade hadn’t been closed, we would have had glass rain down on our heads. I am contacting my insurance carrier today. There was no warning this would happen. The temperature at the time of incident was 52 degrees.

  13. Electrical system, Apr 30, 2026, fire

2015 Nissan Rogue was off and parked for 20 minutes when it went up in flames. There was a recall of 2014-2016 Rogues for electrical issues that could lead to fire, but my car was NOT recalled.

  14. Suspension, Apr 27, 2026

On 4/14/26 my local Nissan dealership technician discovered that my rear lower control arm is severely corroded, with a hole rusted completely through the structural metal (see attached dealer photo). The technician flagged this as a critical safety risk. While Nissan previously issued a service campaign (P9324) and a 10-year warranty extension for identical failures in Altima and Maxima models in 'Salt Belt' states, my Rogue is currently excluded. I have been quoted $1,700 by an independent mechanic to replace these parts, and the dealership estimated the cost would be even higher. I am reporting this to document that this safety defect is present in the Rogue fleet and to urge an investigation. This corrosion creates an immediate risk of the control arm snapping, which could lead to a sudden loss of vehicle control.

  15. Other or unspecified, Apr 9, 2026

My 2015 Nissan Rogue Select, driver side rear door, Door lock has failed with the door in the locked and closed position. I understand there is an ongoing lawsuit over this failure and I am making a complaint to support that this is a safety hazard. While other means of escaping the vehicle are available for an emergency situation, they are less than ideal if the door lock has failed. So far this is the only lock that has completely failed in this manner.

  16. Air bags, Mar 29, 2026

This is a known issue for the 2015 rogue and a huge safety problem. Nissan needs to issue a recall.

  17. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Mar 12, 2026

I am writing to formally document my experience with the service performed at Nissan Heights following a recall repair on my vehicle. My vehicle was brought to Nissan Heights on Monday, March 2, for recall service related to NHTSA Recall #22V-024 (Nissan Recall #R21B9) involving the wiring harness. I dropped off the vehicle early that morning with the expectation that the recall work would be completed properly and that the vehicle would be returned in good working condition. After the recall inspection and service process, I was informed that additional components needed to be replaced the Engine Control Module (ECM), and the Body Control Module (BCM). The cost of replacing these components was several thousand dollars. Based on the nature of the recall and the research I conducted regarding this issue, these failures appear to be directly related to the wiring harness recall. However, Nissan Heights informed me that these repairs were my responsibility. In order to retrieve my vehicle, I proceeded with the repairs and paid the required amount after 8 days. When I picked up my vehicle, I later discovered that certain parts had not been properly reassembled before the car was returned to me. I did not immediately notice this until I was already driving home. Because I had to go to work, I was unable to return to the dealership right away and had to make an additional trip back to Nissan Heights so that the issue could be corrected. More concerning, after further inspection of the vehicle, I discovered that a significant amount of what appears to be an acidic grease or liquid substance had been spilled over the exterior of my vehicle. This substance was present on the roof, sides, and doors of the car and appears to have caused damage to the paint. This damage was not present prior to leaving the vehicle at the dealership. The most likely explanation is that the substance came from another vehicle positioned above mine while it was stored or servic

  18. Electrical system, Feb 28, 2026

The vehicle is experiencing a serious door locking malfunction. Even after the car is locked, the doors repeatedly attempt to lock again every few seconds. During this time, the horn sounds and the lights flash continuously, as if the vehicle is trying to re-lock itself but failing. This behavior continues repeatedly. This issue raises serious safety concerns for the following reasons: •The vehicle may not be securely locking. •The repeated locking attempts may indicate a failure in the door lock actuator or body control system. •The malfunction could potentially cause the doors to unlock unexpectedly. •The constant horn and light activity drains the battery and creates public disturbance. The problem occurs intermittently but frequently enough to cause concern. There have been no recent modifications made to the vehicle. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this issue to determine whether it is a widespread defect affecting other 2015 Nissan Rogue vehicles. Vehicle Details: •Make: Nissan •Model: Rogue •Year: 2015 •Mileage: 127,000 miles •VIN: [XXX] Thank you for your attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  19. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Feb 23, 2026

I am the original owner of a 2015 Nissan Rogue (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 63,000 miles. After driving for about 20–30 minutes, the engine will suddenly rev up but the vehicle will not accelerate or will barely move when I press the gas pedal. This has happened multiple times when trying to merge, climb hills, or cross intersections. The vehicle loses drive power even though the engine is running and revving. When this happens, I have to move over and wait until the vehicle cools down before it will drive normally again. My Nissan dealer has diagnosed the issue as a failing CVT transmission and quoted about $7,700 to replace it. This behavior creates a serious safety hazard because the car can lose power in traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate to highway speed, climb grades, or clear intersections. I am concerned this may be related to known Nissan CVT problems and believe it should be investigated as a safety‑related defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  21. Structure, Feb 12, 2026

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle shuddered and swayed to one side and made an abnormal clunking sound. The vehicle was pulled over into a parking lot and parked. A neighbor inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the passenger’s side rear wheel needed to be aligned and that the rear trailing arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the subframe was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

  22. Air bags, Dec 30, 2025

The airbag light comes on for no reasons and after spending the money to test it, the mechanics suggested multiple defects (clock spring, module, etc). There is no hit or anything and yet it just becomes faulty.

  23. Air bags, Dec 3, 2025, crash

  24. Electrical system, Dec 2, 2025

Once a year my car won't start, I get it towed to a dealership and they always say nothing is wrong but recommend getting a new battery even though the battery is not failing. So every year they try to get me to buy a new battery and warranty won't cover my battery because its not failing. I've had them run other test like parasitic draw and they say they find nothing. Every year I deal with this issue and have to deal with getting my car towed and usable for a couple days then magically starts working.

  25. Seats, Nov 14, 2025

my 2015 Rogue and the issue that I have been experiencing with my drivers seat loose/ rocking while driving. I've done research and was told this is a common issue with 2015 models. I feel this is a safety concern that it moves while driving especially for myself or other. When a seat moves it changes the pressure you use with the pedals. This is a true safety concern and im not sure why this hasnt been addressed sooner. I'm very frustrated with this manufacturing issue and getting no help from the company or dealership. This issues has been verified by 3 different dealers/ autobody shops and numerous of research stating this is a common issue.
