Recalls and investigations

  1. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalFeb 12, 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.

Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 27, 2026.

  3. Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 28, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

  5. Seat belts, critical fastenersMay 25, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The fastener in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points may not have been tightened properly and can loosen over time.

A loose rear seat belt anchor fastener may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolts. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the bolt size and torque value required for any future seat belt repair. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. 6. Seats, critical fastenersApr 13, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The driver's powered seat may not be fully secured to the seat frame, causing the seat frame welds to detach from the rear inboard seat bracket.

An unsecured seat with broken welds may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect the driver's seat rail clearance, and if necessary, replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 10, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC966, PC967.

FIRST MY 2023 NISSAN ROGUE SV 1.5 L TURBO , AS I WAS DRIVING MY SON TO SCHOOL AND I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN MY CAR SHUT OFF AND IT TOLD ME TO PLACE MY VEHICLE IN PARK SO I DID JUST THAT BUT I NOTICED THATTHE ONLY LIGHT THAT STAYED ON THE DASH WAS THE OIL LIGHT AND THEN ONCE MY SON WAS DROPPED OFF , I STOPPED AT ANOTHER STOP SIGN AND IT DID IT AGAIN, SAME PLACE YOUR VEHICLE IN PARK .. THE CAR WAS OFF .. IT DID THIS IN THE MIST OF ME BEING ON THE HIGHWAY , IT WAS SO VERY SCARY TO ME THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING .. BUT THATS NOT THE WORST PART .. THE NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND MY CAR JUST COMPLETY TURNED OFF AND MY SPEED WAS 75MPH AND IT JUST STATED DAMAGED TO ENGINE .. TURN OFF CAR BUT I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE I QUICLKY PLACED THE CAR IN N SO I COULD SAFELY TURN ON THE INTERSTATE .. I HAD MY BABIES IN THE CAR WITH ME ALONG WITH MY BEST FRIEND AND HER DAUGHTER . THIS IS A SCARY CAR TO HAVE , YES IT IS NICE BUT ITS SO VERY DANGEROUS. 2. Other or unspecified, Sep 27, 2026

I was getting into my 2023 Nissan Rogue on September 26, 2026 and I closed the door same as I always do and next thing I know is my back glass busted out. It sounded like and explosion. I took photos of the back glass right after it happen.

  3. Engine, Sep 25, 2026

After my vehicle becamr undrivable i took to a Nissan dealership and was told that my vehicleneeds a new engine, turbo and catalytic converter. To this i was shocked and upset! The vehicle has under 75000 milez and since purchasing it(bought w/about 34k,mi) j have maintained routine maintainence, oil chanes etc. At this pt the Dealership is blaming an EGR failure to avoid covering the vehicle under active engine safety recall 26V080 / R25E2, despite the vehicle showing the exact catastrophic failure symptoms outlined by the manufacturer. The vehicle was looked at for this recall, and given a "cleared" status, however , its very suspicious the exact recall is whats damaged w/my vehicle. To my knowledge the dealership hasn't inspected the entire vehicle fir parts covered under the recall but instead wants to say its a standalone issue caused by the EGR ..again very suspicious. The vehicle is currently at the dealership, because ive spoken w/corp Nissan as I feel this is linked to this past recall and they should b responsible for it. My wife and son were in the vehicle and no immediate warnings gave her cause for concern, however, w/a total engine, turbo, cat failure they could of been severally injured. I feel Nissan should replace this and want to make others aware that if theyre involved in the recall a dealership may try to say its a standalone issue caused by the EGR, (& maybe) but they need to provide proof of this and in my case I do not feel this is the case!

  4. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 25, 2026

We first had breakdown on 6/8/2026 and had towed at our expense due to engine recall, they broke egr valve connector while replaceing engine. They replaced new egr terminal kit at this time. Got car back 6/29/2026. On 6/30 started having loud noises and engine shaking brought car in morning of 7/1 they took for test drive the noise wasnt present but the shaking was was told possible trnasmission mount was broken and they would contact me back with no word until car broke down again 7/30 was told to try to drive it to dealer car wouldnt go faster then 5-10mph. Got the car there was told egr valve needed replaced but wasnt covered we had to pay out pocket. Put in complaint with dealer and then consumer affairs that this had to do with original engine failure also they broke parts egr system and have had issues ever since. EGR valve and connectors and kit have been replaced several times since 6/8/2026 which I have all service information and I also opened a claim in the beginning and they did not help me or want any of the info I have and have broken down several times. The car has been returned 6 times but only kept 5 times and repaired this will be the fifth time being repaired for same EGR issues since engine was replaced. And they refused to give me my money back for one tow we paid for 6/8 and we argued that we arent responsible for the EGR valve they replaced since this has to do with engine recall and them breaking sone parts they broke with install. This has caused serious safety issues as everytime the care breaks down we are on hwy going at speed and car turns off and engine malfunction light turns on everytime.

  5. Power train, Service brakes, Sep 25, 2026

When going over a smooth surface the AWD would trigger the right rear brake and cause the caliper to hang. Over time I started getting warning indicators on the dash that appeared to result in the EPB being reset. When taking the car in, it was identified that there was uneven brake wear, the outboard right rear shoe was at 1mm whereas the inboard right rear shoe was still at 8mm. It was determined that the caliper was hanging by the shop.

  6. Vehicle speed control, Engine, Sep 25, 2026

My engine light randomly came on with a bunch of other things and my car lost power in acceleration and can barely maintain a speed of 50 mph. Code P0196 popped up and I wanna know if it’s the sensor or the water valve. We brought the car in 3 times to a Nissan dealership and they still haven’t fixed it.

  7. Visibility, Sep 23, 2026

My driver's-side backseat window exploded and shattered into pieces while I was driving. Nothing hit the window, and I was only going 40 mph. It put me and others at risk by exploding while I was operating the vehicle, which could have caused a wreck. The explosion sounded like a gunshot going off in my car, and glass shattered into my back seat and onto me (in the driver's seat). There is a lawsuit out right now about the 2021- 2025 Nissan Rogue rear windshield randomly exploding. No other warning labels appeared before the incident. My car was parked in the shade under a tree all day, so it was not due to a change in temperature. I had been driving the car for around 30 minutes consecutively when the window shattered.

  8. Engine and engine cooling, Sep 21, 2026

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 85 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power, with white fumes coming from underneath the front of the vehicle. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was faulty and there was sludge built up in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V437000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); as a possible cause for the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.

  9. Power train, Seats, Engine, Sep 21, 2026

I was driving at soscol Ave Napa 94558 CA when engine warning came out and vehicle power reduced to less than 40MPH on 55mph road. Component failure was engine. My safety and others may or may not be at risk but the road was 55mph and the vehicle went on LIMP mode. Problems were raised to Napa Nissan Dealership @1:50pm on 09/21/2026 however similar problems are reported with the same vehicle nationwide. Vehicle still in dealership possession and conducting their own inspection as of this writing. Warning lights and messages appears while driving around 6:30AM Napa California Engine malfunction and I think it went to limp mode it’s having a hard time going 30-40MPH. I was on the way to work when it happened this morning around 6:30am @ 50,394 mls the engine malfunction error went off, and the engine sounds were different than usual and power was reduced. Also the driver seats feels not sturdy and squeaking a lot when driving. I have video documenting it and how it’s sounds like.

  10. Engine, Sep 21, 2026

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while approaching a stop light, the vehicle unexpectedly lunged forward. The contact stated that while pulling into the residence, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, before the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle failed to immediately restart but restarted after a while. The vehicle was taken to a service center, and the contact was informed that the failure was associated with the engine. The contact was referred to a dealer for assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by telephone. The approximate failure mileage was 63,411.

  11. Power train, Engine, Sep 20, 2026

While on the freeway my 2023 Nissan Rogue all of a sudden would not accelerate. I was able slowly get it to accelerate from 3 mph to 25 mph, I drove it a mile, turned it off and when I turned it back on, it wouldn't start and there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. I towed my car to the Nissan dealership, they kept it for 40 days and told me they had to replace the engine. A month after I got it back, it stopped accelerating again on the freeway. A year later the transmission failed and had to be replaced.

  12. Power train, Engine, Sep 19, 2026

While driving on a major public highway, the vehicle suffered a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive propulsion, dropping immediately into a dangerous transmission limp mode. The dashboard displayed a critical error message stating 'Service CVT Power Reduced' alongside a Check Engine Light. The vehicle became an immediate stationary traffic hazard in a live highway lane, completely unable to accelerate or move safely out of the way of oncoming high-speed traffic. The hazard was severe enough to require an emergency safety response from the Gwinnett County Police Department (Case #PD262540884) to secure the scene and protect the disabled vehicle until a flatbed tow truck could remove it. A subsequent diagnostic scan by a certified corporate dealer (Premier Nissan) confirmed complete internal transaxle failure, throwing diagnostic trouble codes P0741-00 (Torque Converter), P0746-00, and P187E-09.

  13. Engine, Sep 18, 2026

I own a 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum, VIN [XXX], purchased XXX. Nissan’s VIN-specific records show an engine-bearing campaign was OPEN on the sale date. The vehicle was sold as Nissan Certified Pre-Owned, and the XXX CPO inspection paperwork marked the open-campaign requirement as PASS, creating a conflict with the VIN-specific campaign history. On XXX Nissan Consumer Affairs Case XXX confirmed in writing that this VIN is included in KR ENGINE BEARING (RC-XXX) and directed me to schedule free campaign repairs. The underlying engine-bearing safety issue can lead to engine damage or failure and increase the risk of a crash. I am reporting this so NHTSA has a record that this VIN had an open engine-bearing campaign at the time of sale, despite the CPO campaign item being marked PASS, and because I received conflicting campaign-status information concerning this VIN. I request confirmation through the appropriate recall process that all required safety-recall/campaign inspection and repair work for this VIN is completed and accurately reflected in the manufacturer’s records. 14. Engine, Sep 16, 2026

September 15, 2026. Driving and car engine was sluggish and car wouldn't move. Red oil light came on. Managed to get the car to a parking spot and let the car cool off. Checked the oil and it was low, so put more oil in. Will follow up with mechanic but can't understand why I've not gotten a recall notice when there have been MANY of these same complaints!! Now I am afraid to drive the car! 2023 Nissan Rogue SV.

  15. Power train, Engine, Sep 15, 2026

On XXX, my 2023 Nissan Rogue suffered a total structural failure of the factory plastic engine oil pan. During a routine maintenance check, the internal pressed-in brass threaded insert completely separated from the composite plastic casing and began spinning freely. This design failure made it impossible to safely remove, secure, or torque the oil drain plug to factory specifications. Nissan has documented this exact engineering defect in Technical Service Bulletin TSB NTB22-003. The failure occurs under normal operating force due to an inadequate layer of composite material holding the metal insert in place. The repair facility ([XXX]) officially certified on the repair invoice that this failure was caused entirely by a "factory design flaw," completely ruling out technician error or external road damage. I was forced to pay $778.25 out of pocket to replace the failed factory assembly to ensure the vehicle was safe to operate. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  16. Engine, Sep 14, 2026

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2023 Nissan Rogue due to a serious engine malfunction and concerns that a safety recall may not have been properly completed. My vehicle developed an “Engine Malfunction” warning with reduced power and became unsafe and undrivable. The vehicle had to be towed to a repair facility. An independent diagnostic performed afterward indicated a possible throttle body issue. Prior to this incident, I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealership because of an applicable recall. The dealership told me that the recall had been repaired. However, when I checked the vehicle’s recall status afterward, the recall still appeared as unrepaired/incomplete. I also was not provided adequate documentation explaining exactly what was inspected, what was repaired, or how the dealership determined that the recall was successfully completed. I am concerned that the recall-related defect may not have been properly addressed and that this could have contributed to the engine malfunction and sudden loss of power. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter and determine whether there are other complaints involving this recall, the 2023 Nissan Rogue, loss of power/engine malfunction, or throttle-body-related problems, and whether the recall remedy is being properly performed. I can provide repair records, diagnostic information, photographs, recall information, and documentation from the Nissan dealership if needed.

  17. Other or unspecified, Engine, Sep 11, 2026

While driving at speed with a newborn infant in the vehicle, my 2023 Nissan Rogue suffered a sudden and catastrophic engine failure related to NHTSA Recall 26V080000. The vehicle suddenly produced a heavy burning smell, thick white smoke, and the engine completely seized and died while actively in motion. This resulted in an immediate, terrifying loss of motive power on a live roadway, trapping myself and my infant in a hazardous situation. The violent, sudden engine seizure also delivered a terminal mechanical shock that destroyed the transmission. Nissan is currently refusing 100% accountability, trying to charge me a 30% split for the transmission damage directly caused by this life-threatening defect.

  18. Visibility, Structure, Sep 10, 2026

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the rear glass exploded after exiting the vehicle and walking into the place of employment. The contact was alerted to the issue by an individual. The employer checked the security camera and noticed that there was no one nearby when the glass exploded. The contact stated that the hatchback failed to open. The contact had removed most of the glass. The contact called the insurance company and was informed that a technician would be sent to replace the glass and check the hatchback.

  19. Visibility, Sep 10, 2026

On September 6, 2026, the rear liftgate window of my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV AWD was discovered completely shattered while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle had been parked since approximately 7:00 a.m. and was not being driven when the glass failure occurred. There had been no known collision or prior damage to the rear glass. When the vehicle was discovered, the rear window was shattered throughout. We did not identify an obvious impact point or object that would explain the breakage. The rear wiper remained attached and there was no other apparent damage to the liftgate. Because the glass failure occurred while the vehicle was stationary and without a known impact, I am reporting this as a potential safety defect involving the rear liftgate glass. Had this occurred while the vehicle was being driven, shattered glass could have entered the passenger or cargo area and created a safety hazard. I have photographs documenting the condition of the vehicle and broken glass.

  21. Engine and engine cooling, Fuel system, Gasoline, Sep 8, 2026

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH uphill, the vehicle stalled and went into LIMP Mode, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and DTC P210B was retrieved. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that an ECM reprogramming had been completed on the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred after the vehicle was returned. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA Recall Number: 26V081000 (Fuel System, Gasoline; Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.
