Recalls and investigations

  1. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalFeb 12, 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.

Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 27, 2026.

  2. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalJun 27, 2025

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

  3. Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 28, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

  4. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleFeb 27, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

  5. Seat belts, critical fastenersMay 25, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The fastener in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points may not have been tightened properly and can loosen over time.

A loose rear seat belt anchor fastener may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolts. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the bolt size and torque value required for any future seat belt repair. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC978, PC979.

  6. Seats, critical fastenersApr 13, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The driver's powered seat may not be fully secured to the seat frame, causing the seat frame welds to detach from the rear inboard seat bracket.

An unsecured seat with broken welds may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect the driver's seat rail clearance, and if necessary, replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 10, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC966, PC967.

  1. Visibility/wiper, Aug 27, 2026

I went inside of the church for a service and parked my car in the parking lot. When I returned to my vehicle and found the rear window was broken. Nothing fell on the vehicle. There was no impact to the rear of the vehicle. There was nothing used to break the rear window.

  2. Visibility/wiper, Jun 6, 2026

The hatchback window exp!oded into the vehicle. The vehicle had been setting under a carport all night and my wife got in the car and when she closed the door the hatch window shattered. She took it to the dealer and was told it was an insurance problem. She stopped by our agent but they were already closed. Meanwhile I had been researching this problem and found out this seemed to be a problem with 2021-2025 Nissan Rouges. My wife took the car back to the dealership and told them it was their problem. The dealership has the car now to replace the window.

  3. Structure, Visibility/wiper, May 8, 2026

Rear windshield shattered while driving to work on the highway. There is currently a class-action lawsuit against Nissan for this exact problem.

  4. Visibility/wiper, Apr 14, 2026

This is a 2023 Nissan Rogue with 16,298 miles. It is parked overnight in a garage. This morning when the garage door was opened, the rear window spontaneously exploded, sending shattered glass all over the garage. The car has not been in any accidents or had any damage, and there was no significant difference in temperature between the garage and outdoors (both around 65 degrees).

  5. Visibility/wiper, Apr 8, 2026

I opened the trunk with the button on the dash and while the hatch was open a few minutes i heard a loud pop and realized the rear glass blew out and shards of glass came rolling down from the upper right hand side of the rear window and it had also spider cracked throughout the window. This happened at night 10:30 pm it was 42 degrees and light rain. I had just driven the truck for a half hour before and there was no warning lights or sounds prior. The vehicle was stopped and off and all that proceeded the spontaneous explosion was me opening the trunk and within 3 minutes of opening the trunk the glass exploded on its own. I never had a problem before this event and never had it checked out by the dealership or mechanic as I was unaware this was a common issue and had to find out after this happened. I had taken this car several times for several recalls but was never informed of any recalls or issues regarding the rear glass spontaneously blowing out. This is a serious issue and a safety issue and would like answers as to why this wasn't brought to my attention or part of the previous recalls even though it's been a known issue for this make and model for some time.

  6. Visibility/wiper, Mar 10, 2026

The rear windshield on my Nissan Rogue shattered suddenly without any impact while the vehicle was parked. The glass appeared to explode outward. I later discovered other owners have reported similar issues with Rogue rear windshields shattering unexpectedly. I had to replace the glass immediately for safety and paid out of pocket for the repair. I am concerned this may be related to a defect in the rear glass.

  7. Visibility/wiper, Feb 27, 2026

I was waiting to turn when my rear window had a sudden "BANG" noise and shattered. There was no snow on my car, and no evidence of anything going inside my car that could've caused the damage. As I drove, the glass continued to shatter more and more and ended up in my vehicle, and potentially on the road as well. There is currently an open class action lawsuit regarding this issue.

  8. Visibility/wiper, Feb 20, 2026

Rear window shattered.. I was sitting in parking lot and heard a loud noise like a gun shot.. when I looked around I saw a hole in my back window and cracking noise. No cars were around me

  9. Visibility/wiper, Feb 6, 2026

My husband and I had just cranked up our 2023 Nissan Rogue to warm up before putting our newborn in. Suddenly, it sounded like a gunshot. My husband looked back and the windshield had spontaneously shattered. Our back windshield just malfunctioned and we immediately called our Nissan dealer to report it. If we had started driving with our newborn in the back seat he could have seriously been injured. There were no warning signs or indications. Currently waiting on it to be inspected by the dealership, and insurance.

  10. Visibility/wiper, Jan 29, 2026

My car had been parked while I was at work. I was the only person there. I got in the driver's side seat and put my purse in the passenger seat. I heard a lost pop and the back glass exploded in the hatch.

  11. Other or unspecified, Visibility/wiper, Jan 25, 2026

  12. Visibility/wiper, Jan 19, 2026

In August 2024, I purchased a 2023 Nissan Rogue. On January 12, 2025, after a cold front brought ice and snow into our area in North Mississippi, I noticed that the rear windshield was busted. When I contacted my insurance provider, I was informed that there was no information stating that this issue was expected. I filed a claim and had a new windshield installed.

  13. Visibility/wiper, Jan 15, 2026

Was driving in early morning heard a thud sound and discovered back window on hatch had shattered. No one was around, I did have the rear defrost on and not the wiper.

  14. Visibility/wiper, Jan 10, 2026

  15. Visibility/wiper, Jan 2, 2026

  18. Other or unspecified, Visibility/wiper, Dec 5, 2025

At 7:20am on Dec 5, 2025, we used the remote start on our 2023 nissan rogue which was in our unopened garage. We heard a loud sound and walked out to find the back window shattered. It looks like it blew out by the heating element (defroster) on the window. It was roughly 10 degrees outside and maybe 40-50 degrees in our garage. We have not had this issue in the nearly 2.5 years we have owned this vehicle.

  19. Visibility/wiper, Dec 1, 2025

Back window completely broke while in my garage overnight

  20. Visibility/wiper, Nov 24, 2025

While driving down a paved rural road, with no other vehicles around the back window of the lift gate spontaneously shattered. The back window had sustained no damage and had no projectiles exiting or entering the vehicle. The weather conditions are cold and wet and the rear defroster was on at the time.

  21. Visibility/wiper, Nov 7, 2025

The rear window suddenly burst/ cracked/ shattered from the inside out.

  22. Visibility/wiper, Nov 4, 2025

On Sunday, Nov. 2nd, 2025, about 3:50pm EST, I was driving East on Hwy 25, 5 miles west of near Knox Central High School, heading towards Barbourville, Ky. I was coming from Kingsport, Tn heading to Corbin, Ky to take my mother to her cancer doctors in Lexington on Monday, the 3rd. I was driving 55 mph, in the left lane, the weather was foggy, gray, temp 45 degrees. It was 62 when I left home. I had just turned on both my defrosters because the windows were fogging up. At this time my rear window made an extremely loud pop and exploded! The glass went into the back area of my car. Shards were all around the opening. I was terrified and pulled off the road to the right. I got out and was shocked to see the damage! I took photos and a video. Called my husband, my mom and the Ky State Police to ask what to do. They said to drive on to my mom's house, back it into her open garage, cover it with plastic, and then drive her to the dr early Monday in her car, so I did. Sunday pm: I looked up online what to do and found varying answers, but mainly it said to make detailed notes of the incident (I did), contact the manufacturer (found zero way to contact NISSAN!), and report it to the NTFSA online (they are closed due to the government shutdown). Another place said to call my dealer if still under warranty, call my car insurance if it's not. It was too late by then, went to bed to try Monday. Monday: Mom and I were busy with her tests and dr appts until 5:30, got some food, headed home. Got back, looked up how can a car rear window shatter while driving. It gave a few reasons, and then a list of about 5 known cars this happens to, and my Rogue is one of them! That's why I'm supposed to report it, I suppose. It is certainly dangerous, scary and shocking when it happens! Started filling out this report, here we are. Tuesday: 1st I will call my car dealer. It IS still under warranty. Thank God! I was completely shaken up for a good hour b4 I could drive.

  23. Visibility/wiper, Oct 16, 2025

My back window shattered for no reason. I had been driving for about 20 minutes. The ac was on my feet and not for the rear defrost. My [XXX] was in her booster seat in the back seat. We heard an explosion. I looked back to see a softball sized hole in my back window. I called Lumberton Nissan and the General Manager was very rude and was "mansplaining" how he is just a supplier and not responsible for windows exploding. There was no lawn or road work happening. There are no bullet holes in my vehicle. No rocks were found. The location I bought my vehicle from told me to make a claim with my insurance. I ended up just calling a mobile windshield vendor that my employer uses for their vehicles. I work for a Dodge dealership. While the repair is fixed, this has left my daughter scared to ride in my vehicle. I have joined a few Facebook groups who have posted their horror stories of their back windshields exploding. This needs to be fixed! Now that the window has been fixed. When you open and close my hatchback or even take a turn. You can hear glass INSIDE of the door rolling around. The vendor was not able to take apart the door to vacuum the glass up. This will become extremely annoying and make me scared that another window broke, hearing the glass rattle around in my hatchback door. What can be done to help the consumer? As the GM at Lumberton Nissan talks down to women and felt the need to explain how he is only a supplier of vehicles and does not make them, himself. Well, DUH! You are a dealership, not the factory. But the idea of a recall needs to be discussed on your end. This is not safe! My front windshield is perfectly fine and no issues. Same as the four door windows. But my back window should not be exploding on a 66 degree morning when my vehicle is only set at the lowest blowing setting of 72 degrees for more than 20 minutes, on my feet. Again, the rear defrost was no longer turned on. I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I have a bunch of pics. The car had been garaged since Thursday evening and all day Friday. Used it Saturday morning to drive 5 miles, went into my location and when i came out 2 hours later, the rear window on the liftgate was crumbled. Nothing impacted it to cause this. Just shattered on it's own. Temperature was 62 F.

  25. Visibility/wiper, Oct 9, 2025

Got into car shut the door and the rear window spontaneously shattered.
