Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. 4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

  9. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  10. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

  2. Steering, Dec 10, 2018

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IN TOWN, THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND A CORRESPONDING ERROR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". THE CAR BECAME VERY HARD TO MANEUVER AFTER THE LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THANKFULLY MY WIFE WAS NOT DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME AS I DON'T SHE COULD HAVE APPLIED THE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC.

  3. Wheels, Dec 10, 2018

WHEEL STUDS HAVE BROKEN WHILE BEING SERVICED BY FORD, THEY HAVE BROKEN OFF WHEN I'VE REMOVED THE WHEELS, THEY HAVE BROKEN OFF WHEN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS HAVE REMOVED THE WHEELS. FORD COVERED THIS UNDER 11S23 (NHTSA 11V574000). HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE DATES SPECIFIED BY FORD, HAS THE WHEELS WHICH EXHIBIT THE PROBLEM, AND HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES. FORD SAYS MY VIN DOES NOT MATCH ONE OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES. I HAVE PAID TO HAVE THE WHEEL STUDS REPLACED, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.

  4. Wheels, Dec 10, 2018

WHEEL STUDS BREAK OFF. THE WHEEL STUDS HAVE BROKEN OFF MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE BEING TORQUED DOWN AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE BROKEN OFF WHEN I'VE REPLACED A TIRE, THEY HAVE BROKEN OFF WHEN OTHER REPAIR SHOPS HAVE WORKED ON THEM. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THEM REPLACED TWICE, AND NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED A THIRD TIME.

  5. Service brakes, Dec 9, 2018

THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE LOCAL FOR DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, OBVIOUSLY PADS AD ROTORS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR WHILE BRAKING. I DID RESEARCH AND TESTING ON THE CAR AND FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE. THE CAUSE IS A FAILED ABS PUMP. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WELL KNOWN FAILURE IN FORD FUSIONS AND CAN AND DOES CAUSE COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING LEADING TO ACCIDENTS. THE ABS SYSTEM THAT FORD DESIGNED AND INSTALLED IN THE FUSION HAS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT, IN THAT IF THE ABS PUMP HAS AN INTERNAL LEAK THEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED THE BRAKE FLUID IS ALLOWED TO FLOW PASSED THE ABS PUMP, ALLOWING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR BAKING IS LIMITED OR NON EXISTENT. PLEASE DO AN INTERNET SEARCH AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE THAT FORD HAS NOT ADDRESSED AND HAS NOT TRAINED IT TECHNICIANS TO IDENTIFY. MY CHILDREN DRIVE THIS CAR AND I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE BY DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE

  6. Steering, Electrical system, Dec 9, 2018

AFTER GETTING OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AND HEADING TO DINNER WITH MY GIRLFRIEND, EVERYTHING WAS OKAY AND RUNNING SMOOTH. WHILE HEADING BACK HOME, THE "SERVICE ADVANCTRAC" AND "SERVICE POWER STEERING" LIGHTS COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY. SO, I PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON. THIS SOLVED NOTHING, FURTHERMORE IT MADE THE ISSUE EVEN WORSE. SIMPLY SEARCH "2010 FORD FUSION" ON GOOGLE AND YOU'LL SEE MANY STORIES JUST LIKE MINE IN A MATTER OF A FEW SCROLLS. THE WORST PART OF THIS WHOLE THING ISN'T EVEN THE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS THAT MUST BE PUT INTO THE REPAIR. IF MY POWER STEERING WOULD HAVE WENT OUT WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, I WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY TO TELL MY STORY. SO, WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU, FORD? IS MY LIFE WORTH THE $1,500 TO YOU OR WILL YOU LET THIS CONTINUE TO HAPPEN UNTIL A LIFE IS TAKEN?... BUT THAT QUESTION MIGHT UNFORTUNATELY BE TOO LATE.

  7. Steering, Dec 9, 2018

I HAVE HAD MY POWER STEERING REPLACED B4 AT FORD OF VENTURA THEY TOOK ABOUT 2 MONTHS TO FIND THE CORRECT ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING RACK FOR MY VEHICLE NOW THE POWER STEERING RACK IS OUT AGAIN AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT BECAUSE I FILED WITH THE BETER BUISNES BUREAL ABOUT RECENTLY BEING OVERCHARGED FOR A IGNITION SWITCH I WOULD LIKE MY POWER STEERING TO WORK CAN IT PLEASE B REPLACED!?

  8. Steering, Dec 9, 2018

THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND WAS AN INDICATOR THAT THE STEERING NEEDED TO BE SERVICED NOW! SO CANT STEER THE VEHICLE. I WAS AT WORK TO LEAVE AND COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD ALL I COULD TO MOVE IT OUT OF THE WAY. VERY DANGEROUS NEEDLESS TO SAY.

  9. Service brakes, Dec 8, 2018

TAKATA RECALL BRAKES COMPLETELY WENT OUT. NO PRESSURE IN THE PEDAL. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I WOULD OF HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND IT HAS SHOWED MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON GOING ISSUES WITH THE BREAKS IN THE FUSIONS AND MILAN'S.

  10. Service brakes, Dec 8, 2018

WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD AND COMING TO A STOP WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, PEDAL WILL SOFTLY GO TO THE FLOOR ALL THE WAY AND CAR WILL NOT STOP UNLESS PUMPED A FEW TIMES. THIS STARTED HAPPENING AFTER A MONTH WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM LANG AUTOS IN LYNNWOOD, WASHINGTON. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN I HAD TO STOP ABRUPTLY AND THERE WAS GRAVEL ON THE ROAD WHICH ENGAGED ABS. AS SOON AS ABS WAS ENGAGED BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND MY CAR HARDLY STOPPED CAUSING ME TO RUN A RED LIGHT. I WAS ALMOST ABOUT TO RUN INTO A PEDESTRIAN. THIS IS A PERMANENT ISSUE AND I HAVE HAD ROTORS BRAKE PADS CALIPERS CHECKED. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE BRAKES BLED AND TESTED FOR ANY LEAKS. IT CAME OUT NEGATIVE. MASTER CYLINDER WORKS FINE AND THERE IS NO LEAKS IN BRAKE LINE. NO LEAKS IN ANY JOINTS THAT CONNECTS TO MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS MODULE. I HAVE HAD MY CAR TESTED AND SEEMS LIKE THE ISSUE COMES FROM ABS MODULE/CONTROLLER THAT MIGHT NEED A REPLACEMENT. IT IS A VERY COSTLY PART PLUS LABOR COSTS ARE HUGE. ON TOP OF THAT I HAVE ALREADY SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN DIAGNOSING CAUSE AND REPLACING PARTS THAT ARE NOT RELATED TO ACTUAL COST.

  11. Steering, Dec 8, 2018

THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN PULLING IN TO A PARKING LOT RESTAURANT WITH NO WARNING. AS THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWING DOWN AND THE TURN WAS ALREADY MADE OFF THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING.
