Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

  8. Air bags, frontal, passenger side, inflator moduleDo not drive until repairedMay 31, 2016

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Ford Ranger vehicles, 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, and 2005-2011 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. 9. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  10. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

  11. Wheels, lugs/nuts/bolts/studsDec 7, 2011

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 17 INCH STEEL WHEELS AND BUILT FROM APRIL 1, 2009, THROUGH APRIL 30, 2009, AND FROM DECEMBER 1, 2009, THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2010. THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.

WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE WHEEL LUG NUTS WILL BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 24, 2012. MY 2010 FORD FUSION HAS COME UP WITH A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" MESSAGES ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS CAUSES THE STEERING IN THE VEHICLE TO BE STIFF AND VERY DIFICULT TO MAKE A TURN ON THE ROAD. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME DRIVING AT A REDUCED SPEED AND BY AVOIDING MAKING TURNS WHEN POSSIBLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT.

WHILE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" CAME UP ON THE DISPLAY. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND COULD CAUSE WRECKS. FOR A LITTLE RESEARCH I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO THEM.

LONG TERM RECALL NOTICE NHTSA #16V384, MANUFACTURER RECALL #16S26 (TAKATA AIRBAGS), SINCE JUNE 2016 (POSSIBLY LONGER). THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL. EVERY DAY THAT THIS RECALL GOES WITHOUT REPAIR COULD POSSIBLY MEAN THAT THAN MANY LIVES ARE LOST IN ACCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS. WHEN WILL THERE BE A REMEDY?

  8. Steering, Jan 27, 2017

THE EPS (ELECTRIC POWER STEERING) UNIT JUST FAILED ON MY 2010 FORD FUSION S. THE PROBLEM INDICATOR LIGHT HAS FLASHED ON STARTUP A FEW TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, BUT FINALLY CAME ON PERMANENTLY YESTERDAY, 01/26/2017. WHEN THE INDICATOR TEXT CAME ONTO THE ERROR SCREEN IT SHOWED THE FOLLOWING TEXT AND ALL POWER ASSIST TO MY STEERING WAS GONE: POWER STEERING FAILURE AND ADVANCE TRACK FAILURE MY DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON MOST FORD FUSION MODEL YEARS, BUT A RECALL HAS ONLY BEEN ISSUED FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS AND DOES NOT INCLUDE MINE! HE DESCRIBED THE ISSUE AS ONE WHERE THE RIBBON CABLE THAT CONNECTS THE EPS UNIT IS PRONE TO DISINTEGRATION, AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED, AND THE FIXED EPS UNITS DO NOT HAVE THIS DESIGN FLAW. THE FIX FOR THIS IS MORE THAN $2000 DOLLARS, AND SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ONTO THE CONSUMER SINCE THIS CRITICAL SAFETY PART WILL FAIL ON ALL FORD FUSION MODELS OVER TIME... SOME SOONER AND SOME LATER. THIS IS NOT AN INCONVENIENCE LIKE A BROKE RADIO OR A LEAKING HOSE. THIS IS A A DISASTROUS SITUATION OF THE FIST ORDER. HOW MANY LIVES IS FORD WILLING TO SACRIFICE AS STEERING FAILURES OCCUR AROUND THE WORLD, BEFORE THEY DECIDE TO TAKE ACTION?

WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AFTER SOME READING I SAW THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS COSTING UP TO 2000 DOLLARS TO FIX. THIS WAS ALL RELATED TO THE POWER ASSIST COMPONENT THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN RECALLED ON 2011 AND NEWER. 2010 WAS LEFT OUT YET HAS THE SAME ISSUE AS MINE DOES NOW. HAD THIS BEEN MY CHILDREN DRIVING THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAS THE ARM STRENGTH TO TURN THE WHEEL. THIS ISSUE IS POSSIBLY DEADLY AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED QUICKLY. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. AS OF RIGHT NOW I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORD INCLUDE 2010 AND OLDER THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS THE 2011 MODELS OR NEW MODELS HAVE. WHAT IF IT WAS ONE OF YOUR CHILDREN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE? WOULD YOU WANT IT RECALLED FOR THEIR SAFETY? *TR

  20. Steering, Jan 19, 2017

BRAKES WENT SOFT, REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER THEN I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES AT ALL. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE THINKS THE ABS SYSTEM IS BAD, I READ A LOT OF COMMENTS ON LINE TO SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I DID STOP ON SNOW AND THE ABS SYSTEM WORK THEN AFTER THAT THE BRAKES WENT SOFT.

  22. Steering, Jan 16, 2017

I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD FUSION IN A PARKING LOT AND WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING" AND "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC" LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. MY BOYFRIEND AND I WEREN'T SURE WHAT THAT MEANT SO WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME A FEW MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD. ONCE REACHING OUR DRIVEWAY THE CAR SEEMED A LITTLE HARDER TO TURN, BUT IT STILL WASN'T THAT BAD. WE DECIDED IN THE MORNING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE STARTED THE CAR AND WE COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I DO SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 FORD FUSIONS, BUT FORD HAS NOT MADE THIS A RECALL AND THERE IS A LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS. THANKFULLY WE NOR ANYONE AROUND US WAS HURT, BUT NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT PAYING AROUND $1500 FOR REPAIRS. IT WOULD BE NICE IF FORD COULD HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED. *TR

LIKE SO MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED, TODAY THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE STOPPED WORKING. DOOR CANNOT BE OPEN FROM INSIDE. DRIVER MUST CLIMB OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO EXIT OR ELSE ROLL DOWN THE DRIVER WINDOW TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.

TAKATA RECALL. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE 4 TIMES TOWED TO THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP. LORENZO FORD IN HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COULD NOT TURN OR STEER. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR AND TURNING ON A BUSY INTERSECTION ON 157 AVENUE AND NORTH KENDALL DRIVE WE ALMOST GOT INTO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT HEAD ON. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE TURNING ON SW 137 AVENUE AND 152 STREET AGAIN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. ALSO WE PAID $1800.00 TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY WITH THE SAME ISSUE A LOCKED STEERING WHEEL. IT SHOWS THAT THE AIRBAG IS OPEN AND IT IS NOT. WE ARE VERY UPSET AND DISSATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE THAT WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WE NEED HELP.THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND PERHAPS LOSS OF LIFE. WE USUALLY DON'T COMPLAIN BUT THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. WE HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THE PART IS IN TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN SINCE JULY 2016 THAT WE RECEIVED THE LETTER FOR THE RECALL AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED SO FAR. THE PART THAT WAS REPLACED WAS THE GEAR ASSEMBLY -STEERING $1186.74 PLUS LABOR. SINCE 5/2016 -10/2016 ITS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES. STILL NOT DRIVABLE. *TR
