The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.
An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

WHILE DRIVING IN THE PASSING LANE ON THE HIGHWAY ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE'S BRAKES UNTIL I BEGAN TO SEE SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE INTERIOR PANELS OF MY VEHICLES. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLES NEAR ME NOTICED THE SMOKE AND SLOWED DOWN SO THAT I COULD GET OFF THE ROAD. ONCE PULLED OVER I WENT TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND FELT THE HOOD BUT IT DID NOT FEEL HOT BUT WHEN I LOOKED UP I NOTICED THE SMOKE WAS COMING FORM THE TRUNK. I WENT TO THE BACK OF THE CAR, OPENED THE TRUNK AND NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM THE CAR BATTERY COMPARTMENT (NOT THE HYBRID BATTERY). I TRIED TO SMOTHER THE FIRE WITH A SHEET BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I REALIZED THE FLAMES WERE MOVING DOWN THE SIDE TOWARD THE FUEL TANK AND STEPPED AWAY TO CALL 911. WITHIN MINUTES THE FIRE SPREAD THROUGH MY TRUNK TO THE BACKSEAT OF THE VEHICLE AND COMPLETELY ENGULFED THE VEHICLE.

A LETTER WAS MAILED TO ME ON APRIL 2017 INFORMING ME OF SAFETY RECALL 17S09. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED WHEN PARTS BECAME AVAILABLE. THE SPECIAL ORDER FOR PARTS WAS NOT PLACED UNTIL 7/3/18. THEY HAVE NOT COME IN YET, PER OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF ALL OF THIS. ON SATURDAY 8/8/2018 THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO MY RESIDENCE TO PUT OUT AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE DUE TO THISRECALL ISSUE. THE ENGINE STARTED SMOKING AS I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ENGINE OVERHEATING SIGNALS HAD ALERTED ME. THE FIRE ESCALATED VERY QUICKLY, AND FLAMES WERE SEEN COMING DROM UNDER THE HOOD AND ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS, AND THIS HAS CREATED A MAJOR FINANCIAL HARDSHIP FOR OUR FAMILY.

I HAVE A RECALL ON MY CAR TO REPLACE THE TRANSMITION CABLE. I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM BACK IN 2016. I KNEW BACK THEN THAT THIS WAS A BIG ISSUE AND THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE RECALL ISSUE AND I PAID $571.25 TO FIX A TRANMISSION SHIFTER CABLE. I STILL HAVE THE RECEIPT AND ALL THE NOTES THAT THE DEALERSHIP WROTE AND IT MATCHES THIS RECALL. I FILED ACOMPLAINT WITH NHTSA AND NO ACTION TAKEN BACK THEN AND I FEEL SINCE THIS IS A RECALL THAT I SHOULD HAVE NEVER PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS RECALL AND I FEEL I SHOULD GET A REFUND FROM FORD. I ALMOST DIED WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF MY GEAR SHIFT AND I HAD MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF MY 2013 FORD FUSION ON 9/16/16. I COULD NOT GET MY CAR GEAR TO SHIFT AT ALL AND IT WAS MOVING BY ITSELF. IF IT WASNT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN WOULD HAVE CRASHED AND GOT INJURED OR IMJURY SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE ALL MY PAPERWORK AND WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE FROM I KNEW BACK THEN THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER/DEFECTIVE IN 2016, AND RECEIVED A LETTER DATED AUG 2018 THAT THERE IS A RECALL THAT I PAID FULL PRICE TO REPAIR AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA ABOUT IT, BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BACK THEN. I WOULD LIKE TO FULE A COMPLAINT.

MY 2013 FORD FUSION IS EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE WINDOW CONTROLS. I HAVE LOST COMMUNICATION WITH THE 'FRONT CONTROL INTERFACE MODULE', 'DOOR CONTROL MODULE A', AND 'DOOR CONTROL MODULE B'. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, MY ECM DISPLAYS THE FOLLOWING CODES, P193E: A/C CLUTCH REQUEST SIGNAL, U0199: LOST COMMUNICATION WITH DOOR CONTROL MODULE A, U0200: LOST COMMUNICATION WITH DOOR CONTROL MODULE B, AND U0256: LOST COMMUNICATIONS FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE. THIS HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY, AND IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN MY CAR IS IN MOTION AND WHEN MY CAR IS STATIONARY. SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS WHEN I START MY CAR AND SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING. TO BE CLEAR, I HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONING, NO VENTILATION, AND I CAN NOT ROLL DOWN MY WINDOWS. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS TOWARDS 90 OR MORE DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THIS MEANS THE INTERIOR TEMPERATURE OF THE CARE GETS TO BE VERY HOT. IN MY EXPERIENCE, THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND THEN RECONNECT THEM BUT THIS ONLY OFFERS A TEMPORARY FIX TO THE PROBLEM.

CAR WOULD NOT START WITH KEY IN IGNITION; JUMPED 12V BATTERY TO TAKE TO DEALER. 12V BATTERY REPLACED 3/20/18 ($210). ON 6/10/2018, AGAIN, CAR WOULD NOT START. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY NEW BATTERY NOT WORKING; REPLACED, 12V AGAIN ($0 UNDER WARRANTY). ON 7/19/2018, AGAIN, VEHICLE NOT STARTING; ABSOLUTELY NO ELECTRONIC DISPLAY IN DASH, THEREFORE, LOOKS TO BE 12V BATTERY PROBLEM, AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE APPEARS TO HAVE A PROBLEM W/ ABILITY TO MAINTAIN 12V BATTERY CHARGED AND SYSTEM INOPERABLE EVEN AFTER NEW BATTERY REPLACEMENT.

ON TWO OCCASIONS AFTER STARTING THE CAR ELECTRONICS ON STEERING WHEEL AND CONSOLE FAILED TO WORK! NO BLINKERS, TO CRUISE CONTROL, NO CONSOLE CONTROL. ONE TIME SPEEDOMETER DIDN'T WORK. ERROR BOX APPEARS IN LEFT COMPUTER SCREEN AND DOES NOT GO AWAY AFTER PRESSING OK BUTTON. I WAS ABLE TO RESET SYSTEM BY TURNING HIGH BEAM FORWARD TWICE THAN BACKWARDS ONCE. I BELIEVE THE TURN SIGNAL STOCK IS FAULTY. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY ONE TIME WHEN I DISCOVERED THE BLINKERS WHERE NOT WORKING. COULD OF CAUSED A ACCIDENT! ONLY HAVE 40,000 MILES ON CAR. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND SHOWED MANAGER AND AGREED SOFTWARE PROBLEM. NO TROUBLE CODE CAME UP ON SCANNER.

I WAS MAKING A TURN WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THERE WAS A MESSAGE SAYING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. I TOOK IT TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED MY CAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEAR AND I HAD RESEARCHED THAT SOME PREVIOUS CARS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THAT EXACT PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FOR THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE, WHICH WAS INCREASING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 5 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (HOLLINGSWORTH RICHARDS FORD, 778 FLORIDA BLVD, BATON ROUGE, LA 70806, (225) 927-5555) WHERE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE REMEDY CAUSED THE FAILURES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD NO FAILURES PRIOR TO THE RECALL REMEDY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN EXTENDED WARRANTY CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14N02 (ABS VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL RELATED COMMUNICATION LOSS THAT DISABLES OBDII SYSTEM MONITORS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR OVER A WEEK WITHOUT DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ON MARCH 26TH, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:40PM MY 2013 FORD FUSION (VIN #[XXX]) CAUGHT FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS OCCURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY A 5 MINUTE DRIVE. THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR OVER 5 HOURS AND ON MY RIDE HOME A LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH SHOWING COOLANT/ENGINE OVERHEATING AND SMOKE BEGAN TO APPEAR FROM THE HOOD (THIS OCCURRED AS I ENTERED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH). I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY SLOWLY AND PULL INTO A GAS STATION. THERE THE CAR CONTINUED TO SMOKE AND A PERSON THERE POINTED UNDERNEATH THE CAR WHERE THE FIRE WAS GOING. IT TOOK TWO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO A RECALL 17S09. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TWICE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. ON 6/22/17 I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO CARMAX TO HAVE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR REPLACED AFTER EXPERIENCING OVERHEATING PROBLEMS. I THEN TOOK THE CAR INTO TUTTLE-CLICK CAPISTRANO FORD TO HAVE THE COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR SYSTEM INSTALLATION WORK DONE PER THE RECALL ON 7/7/17. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. USED CODE CHECKER TO INVESTIGATE AND CAME UP WITH CODE P144C. ENDED UP HAVING TO DO WITH THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. COST - $326.04 REPAIRS COMPLETED AT WRAY FORD, 2851 BENTON ROAD, BOSSIER CITY, LA 318-686-7300, INVOICE NUMBER FOCS245906 ON 21 DEC 2016 SECOND ITEM: PROBLEM WITH START/STOP BUTTON. THE WRENCH ON THE DASH WOULD LIGHT UP. ONLY THING I COULD FIND OUT WAS LOOK IN THE MANUAL, WHICH SHOWED AND TOLD ME NOTHING. CAR WOULD JUST ARBITRARILY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING !!! ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, I HAD TO USE A KNIFE TO PULL THE START/STOP BUTTON OUT AND THEN IT WOULD GENERALLY RESTART AND THE WRENCH ON THE DASH WOULD GO OFF. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND STATED THE IGNITION BUTTON WAS FAULTY. ORIGINALLY TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON 11-1-2017 AND THEY DID NOT HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART, STATED THEY WERE ON BACK ORDER AND HAD NO IDEA WHEN A NEW ONE WOULD BE AVAILABLE, IN THE MEANTIME, FORD EXPECTED ME TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY SHUT DOWN AT ANYTIME, WHILE TURNING IN FROM OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AT AN INTERSECTION WOULD HAVE BEEN A DEADLY EVENT !! I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY, FORD CASE NUMBER CAS13448074 BUT NEVER HEARD ANYTHING FROM FORD. I FOLLOWED UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP WEEKLY ON STATUS OF PART. IT FINALLY CAME IN AROUND DECEMBER 14TH AND I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT REPLACED ON DECEMBER 18TH. COST - $361.66 I WANT AN INVESTIGATION AS TO WHETHER THESE ARE RECURRING ISSUES AND A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE FOR THESE ISSUES. THE SECOND ONE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.
