Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S43. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  18. Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012

This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.

If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicle’s hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicle’s powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

  19. Exterior lighting, headlightsNov 30, 2012

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.

An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

I BOUGHT MY CAR AUGUST 6TH,2016 WITH ROUGHLY 40000 MILES FROM AUTO NATION FORD DEALER . NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2017 . I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY CAR GAVE ME A MESSAGE THAT MY ENGINE WAS RUNNING HOT AND TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. I DID AND OPENED THE HOOD AND REALIZED THERE WAS A COOLANT LEAK AND IT WAS SMOKING . I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TO FIX AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE HEATER HOSE AND SAID THEY RAN TEST TO MAKE SURE THEIR WAS NO MORE LEAKS AND EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THEY SAID MY MANUFACTURE NOR EXTENDED WOULD COVER IT. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY MORE PROBLEMS AGAIN UNTIL DECEMBER 29TH 2017 (APPROXIMATELY 2 1/2 MONTHS LATER). I WAS RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AGAIN AND MY CAR GAVE ME THE SAME MESSAGE AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY IMMEDIATELY AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO PUT OUT MY CAR. I BARELY HAD TIME TO PULL OVER FROM THE TIME MY CAR ALERTED ME TO WHEN IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY WHEN I SPOKE TO MY ADJUSTER SHE TOLD ME ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE FIRES DUE TO COOLANT LEAKS ON MY CAR THAT WAS ISSUED IN MAR 2017 . I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OR TOLD AND I WAS EVEN AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT JUST A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. I CHECKED MY COOLANT REGULAR AND ALL MY OTHER FLUIDS. IT NEVER GAVE ME ANY MESSAGES EITHER TIME UNTIL I HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY AND THE 2ND TIME IT WAS ON FIRE ALREADY BEFORE THE CAR EVEN NOTIFIED ME. NOW MY INSURANCE SAYS THEY WON'T HELP ME BECAUSE MY COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE DON'T COVER MECHANICAL AND AFTER THE ADJUSTER WENT AND LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE, SHE CLAIMS THAT IT'S FORDS RESPONSIBILITY DUE TO THE RECALL. I HAVE RENTAL THROUGH FORD BUT NOW THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN INSPECTOR TO LOOK AT MY CAR BEFORE THEY CAN ISSUE ME A RENTAL AND IT COULD BE A WHILE. * (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS

RECALL #17V-209 ISSUED IN APRIL 2017 AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. CONSIDERING THAT THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE, I FIND THIS EXTREMELY TROUBLING AND IRRESPONSIBLE OF FORD MOTOR IN NOT TAKING CARE OF THIS IN A PROMPT TIME FRAME.

CAR WILL SPORADICALLY GO INTO LIMP HOME MODE WHILE DRIVING. NEVER SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WHILE PARKED OR NOT MOVING. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND LET IT SIT FOR A GOOD 15 TO 20 MINUTES. I CAN THEN START IT BACK UP AND IT RUNS LIKE THERE IS NO PROBLEM. MECHANIC CAN'T FIND THE ISSUE BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARS AND NO ERROR CODE IS GIVEN. HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AND REGULAR CITY STREETS. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. HAPPENS A FEW TIMES A YEAR BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION NHTSA PRELIMINARY EVALUATION #PE13003

JUST HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE 3RD OR 4TH TIME NOW. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOOSING COOLANT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BLOCK HEATER JUST ABOUT AS MANY TIMES ALSO. THEY NEVER REALLY SEEM TO BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE ITS COMING FROM AND I'M QUITE CONCERNED THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO ACTUALLY HAVE IT FIGURED OUT. FIRST PROBLEM WAS AT 20,000 MILES, 50,000 MILES, 80,000 MILES AND 131,000 MILES. THERE IS A RECALL FOR COOLANT LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST AND STARTING A FIRE BUT I'M STILL BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THAT ISSUE YET. I WAS NOTIFIED BACK IN MARCH OF 2017 ABOUT THAT ISSUE.

ON WAY TO WORK I ON THE MORNING OF 10-12-17 GOING ABOUT 75MPH ON INTERSTATE AND ALL THE SUDDEN THERE WAS A DING AND FLASH OF RED (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) ON THE DASHBOARD STATING ENGINE OVERHEATING AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND CAR BASICALLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I LOST ALL POWER, RADIO, LIGHTS ETC. WITH THE MOMENTUM I HAD BUILT UP GOING 75 I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT ACROSS THE 4 LANES TO THE SHOULDER. AN OHIO STATE TROOPER STOPPED TO ASSIST AND WAS DUMB FOUNDED WHEN HE SAY THERE WAS NO POWER, THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SPOKE WITH JAY AND ADVISED THAT CAR WAS BEING TOWED IN. SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT FORD IS STATING THAT IT'S A SAFETY FEATURE TO STOP FIRE FROM HAPPENING, BUT HONESTLY HOW SAFE IS TO HAVE THE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRICAL POWER COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON INTERSTATE. IT WAS A MATTER OF SECONDS BETWEEN DING, LIGHT AND LOSS OF POWER. CAR WAS TOWED IN USING MY AAA MEMBERSHIP ON A FLATBED TO LIBERTY FORD IN BRUNSWICK, OHIO. I WAS ADVISED LATER THAT DAY THAT IT WAS THE WATER PUMP AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SENSOR THAT WAS RECALLED. I HAD TO USE PTO FOR WORK ON THURSDAY AND CAR WAS READY FOR PICK UP ON 10-13-17 AROUND LUNCH TIME. ON 10-13-17 I HAD TO LEAVE WORK EARLY TO GET TO DEALERSHIP BEFORE THEY CLOSED AT 6PM OTHERWISE I WOULD BE CHARGED $50.00 FOR THE LOANER IF RETURNED ON SATURDAY MORNING. I PICKED UP MY CAR AND IT COST ME @$107.00 FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE SINCE THEY ARE STATING IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL AND THAT IT WAS THE WATER PUMP. ON THE AFTERNOON OF 10-14-17 (@ 12:30-12:45PM) DRIVING IN MEDINA AREA ON WAY TO EVENT WITH NIECE IN THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SEE ATTACHED FOR FULL COMPLAINT AND DOCS

MY CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND LEAKING COOLANT. THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOOK MY CAR IN FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THEY HAD IT FOR ABOUT 1 WEEK. HOWEVER, MY ENGINE OVERHEATING LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND NOW MY ENGINE FAN SOUNDS LIKE A JET. IT IS SUPER LOUD AS IF THEY ALTERED IT TO KEEP MY CAR FROM OVERHEATING AND NEVER REPAIRED THE RECALL ISSUE. WHEN THE FAN COMES ON SO LOUD, YOU CAN HEAR A LOUD WHISTLE THROUGH MY AV VENTS.
