Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S43. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  18. Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012

This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.

If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicle’s hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicle’s powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

  19. Exterior lighting, headlightsNov 30, 2012

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.

An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

ON 10/10/2019, MY TEMPERATURE GAUGED SPIKED UP TO HIGH AND INSTANTLY DROPPED BACK DOWN TO NORMAL WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THEN THE CAR DISABLED ITSELF, LEAVING ME STRANDED. REPLACED THE TEMP. SENSOR AND ADDED COOLANT AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. ON 10/30/2019 IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, LEAVING ME STRANDED FOR A SECOND TIME, SO I REPLACED THE TEMP. SENSOR AGAIN THINKING IT WAS DEFECTIVE. ON 10/12/2019, IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES, ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, AND WITH DOING MORE RESEARCH, I FOUND IT STEMMED FROM A MANUFACTURING RECALL #17S09/ NHTSA RECALL #17V209, (COOLANT LEAKS/ENGINE OVER HEATING). ON 10/14/2019, I CALLED ADVANTAGE FORD IN STUART, FL AND WAS TOLD TO BRING MY CAR IN ON 10/23/2019 TO HAVE THE RECALLS(WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF) TAKEN CARE OF. ON 10/16/2019, MY CAR STARTED BLOWING WHITE SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST AND WHEN I CALLED BACK ADVANTAGE FORD, THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN RIGHT AWAY. SINCE MY CAR WAS NO LONGER DRIVE-ABLE, I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE TECHNICIAN AT FORD, HE SAID THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE RECALL AND REPLACE A HOSE THAT WAS LEAKING, BUT THAT THE DAMAGE WAS ALREADY DONE TO THE ENGINE, PROBABLY BAD RINGS (BECAUSE THE COOLANT LEAKED CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT GUNKING UP THE OIL IN THE ENGINE), AND THAT THIS WAS OUR FAULT AND THAT I SHOULD TRADE THE CAR IN WHILE IT STILL RUNS! HE WASN'T SURE OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, NOR DID HE SUGGEST ANY TYPE OF REPAIRS, JUST THAT THIS WAS OUR PROBLEM. ON 10/22/2019, I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN A CASE # AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY A REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER. ON 10/28/2019, WE WERE TOLD BY THE MANAGER THAT THEIR FORD MECHANICS WOULD HAVE TO BREAKDOWN THE ENGINE TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT CAUSED THE SLUDGE AND IF THEY ARE AT FAULT OR IF THIS IS OUR PROBLEM.

WAS HAVING A SLOW COOLANT LEAK INTO THE ENGINE. WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT IT WAS POTENTIALLY A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS NOT A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD BUT A WARPED ENGINE BLOCKED AFTER ONLY 130K MILES AND 6 YEARS. CAR HAS BEEN IN SHOP FOR NEARLY TWO WEEKS WHILE WE TRY TO DECIDE WHAT WE NEED TO DO.

I HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND NOW IT IS ON MY CREDIT RECORD BECAUSE IT IS BEYOND REPAIR, AND I RETURNED IT TO THE FINANCE COMPANY WHERE I PURCHASED IT FROM. I HAD TO REPLACE THE LUG NUTS BECAUSE THE FACTORY LUG WRENCH WOULDN'T WORK, THE ENGINE RAN HOT (REGULARLY) LEADING TO LONG TERM ENGINE DAMAGE, THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE SINCE I BEGAN FINANCING THE CAR. THE CAR ONLY HAD 64K MILES WHEN I BEGAN FINANCING IT, BY 77K, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE (FIRST TIME IN DEC.18, AND THEN JAN.19), AND IT STILL SHIFTED HARD (AT TIMES) AND STILL MADE A STRANGE SOUND. I AM INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT OVER THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE REPAIRS WERE AFTERMARKET (AND MEDIA INDICATES THAT EVEN THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT CAPABLE OF FIXING THE PROBLEM) IN APPROXIMATELY THE MONTH OF MAY, 2019, THE VEHICLE ALSO WOULD NOT START (KEY WOULD NOT TURN/NO LIGHTS CAME ON, ETC.). I CONTACTED THE CARMAKER, AND THEY HAD STATED THAT THEY'D "NEVER HEARD OF THIS KIND OF ISSUE BEFORE", BUT THEY DID OFFER TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK FROM ME (AT MARKET VALUE), BUT THEY BECAME DISINTERESTED WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS FINANCING THE VEHICLE FROM ELSEWHERE.

THIS FORD FUSION HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY DYING AS IT COMES TO A STOP OR WHEN JUST DRIVING . IT HAS BEEN STARTING BACK UP IMMEDIATELY BUT LATELY SEEMS TO NOT TO START AS QUICKLY. ALSO STRANGE NOISE LIKE BLOWING OR PUFFING SOUND FROM UNDER HOOD. THIS IS ON CITY STREETS AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR RAMP STOPS. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND UNTIL CODES SHOW UP THEY CAN'T TELL US NOTHING.

THE CAR CREATES A CONSTANT LOUD AIR SUCTION NOISE WHEN ACCELERATED. THE SOUND BECOMES LOUDER THE FASTER YOU GO WHEN STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THERE IS NO SOUND WHEN THE CAR IS IN IDLE AND ROLLING WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND ASKED TO BE DROVE BY DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE SOUND. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CODES SHOWING UP. ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD OVERHEATS AND LEAKS OIL RECALL DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE THIS MORNING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC MY CAR STARTED SHUTTERING. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE MY DASHBOARD WENT CRAZY STATING MY CAR OVERHEATED. WHEN I GOT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC THEY DISCOVERED MY COOLANT WAS LEAKING AND IT BUSTED ONE OF MY CYLINDERS WHICH PUT A HOLE IN MY ENGINE. WHEN I CALLED FORD THEY STATED MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE THE EXACT MAKE, MODEL AND ENGINE MENTIONED IN THE RECALL AND EXACTLY WHAT THEY WARNED WOULD HAPPEN, HAPPENED, BUT I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COINCIDENCE. I HAD NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS FINE AND THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYTHING LEAKING. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN COINCIDENCES THIS BIG.

WHILE I STARTED REVERSING TOWARDS MY DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE MY VEHICLE GOT COMPLETELY PARALYZED AS I CHANGED GEARS FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE, MY STEERING WHEEL, BRAKES AND SHIFT GEAR STOPED RESPONDING, I MANAGED TO CAREFULLY MOVE MY CAR TO A SAFETY LOCATION BUT I WAS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN I HAD TO LET MY CAR SLIDE DOWN THE ROAD OF MY HOUSE IN ORDER TO LET THE TRAFFIC (I HAD UNINTENTIONALLY CAUSED) CARRY ON. I THEN, PUT MY CARS EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND CALLED MY MECHANIC. LUCKILY FOR ME, THIS ALL HAPPEN INFRONT OF MY HOUSE, ACTUALLY, AFTER THE 2 HOUR DRIVE I HAD FINISHED COMING FROM, MY CONCERNS ARE WHAT IF THIS INCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN OUTSIDE OF MY TOWN, OR IN THE HIGHWAY, MY SAFETY AND EVEN MY OWN LIFE WAS ON THE LINE FOR A FEW MINUTES, I CAN ONLY BE LUCKY FOR SO LONG. A COUPLE DAYS AFTER, I CAME TO FIND OUT I DID NOT HAVE ONE RECALL INCOMPLETE BUT 3!, EVEN MORE SHOCKING, I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTICES FOR ANY OF THE 3 RECALLS FROM MY CARS DEALERSHIP. I WENT TO THEM IMMEDIATELY AND NOW AM WAITING FOR THEM TO CALL ME BACK TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT I BEEN TRYING TO MAKE ALREADY FOR THE PAST WEEK BUT TILL TODAY, I HAVE YET NOT RECEIVED A DATE.

I WENT INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL ON JULY 2, 2019 AND ALSO TOLD THEM MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND MY CAR WAS OVERHEATING. IN THE LAST TWO YEARS MY VEHICLE HAS HAD TWO RECALLS FIXED FOR THIS ISSUE. I NOTICED WITHIN THE LAST WEEK NOT ONLY WAS THE ENGINE LIGHT ON BUT AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR BEGAN TO SUDDENLY JERK AND START TO OVERHEAT . I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THIS WAS RESOLVED AND COMPLETED TWICE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS... OBVIOUSLY NOT. I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR FROM THE SERVICE AND NOTICED IT WAS JUST SITTING IN THE FRONT OUTSIDE OF THE SERVICE SO I WENT TO FIND SOMEONE FOR THE KEYS. MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START SO THEY HAD TO GIVE ME A JUMP. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAS NO PROBLEMS STARTING WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF THAT MORNING. SO THE MANAGER CAME BACK AFTER A WHILE TALKING TO THE MECHANIC WORKING ON MY VEHICLE AND SAID "THEY HAD TO JUMP IT A FEW TIMES BECAUSE IT KEPT TURNING OFF". SO NOW I'M UPSET BECAUSE HE'S TELLING ME WHOEVER INSTALLED IT PUT IN A SMALLER ONE THAN THE ONE THAT SHOULD BE THERE. I TOLD HIM THAT'S FUNNY BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE HERE LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO AND IT HASN'T BEEN CHANGED SINCE. NOW MY VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN ON AND HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE EVER SINCE BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD THE COSTLY REPAIRS.
