Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S43. 4. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. 19. Exterior lighting, headlightsNov 30, 2012

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.

An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND VEHICLE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING, BUT TRANSMISSION QUIT PULLING (FLEXPLATE HAD FRACTURED AND BROKEN). VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OUT OF TRAFFIC. I AM AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP IN CRESTWOOD. KY AND HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE TWICE IN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS IN VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COMBINATION. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS AN AWD FORD 2015 EDGE. I'M SURE THIS IS AND WILL BE A MAJOR ISSUE.

  2. Steering, Jul 15, 2021

The power steering went out as I was driving my car. I got an alert of 'power assist fault' and 'service advance track' when driving in the rain. The vehicle became very hard to turn which put me at risk of crashing. This has been a widespread problem with 2013 Ford Fusions and many have been recalled. My VIN number was not included in the recall. This happened a few months after purchasing my car brand new as well. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. There were no warning signs before this.

  3. Steering, Other or unspecified, Jul 11, 2021

Power steering was lost. Fuse and belt is still okay.

  4. Steering, Jul 8, 2021

I have had a few incidents where my car displays "power steering assist fault" and the steering gets tight and my car will just stop running. This has occurred multiple times since I purchased my vehicle last summer. One time it occurred on the Turnpike while going at a speed of approximately 70mph and it has also occurred just after I had turned my car on to back out of the driveway. It has also occurred while going 25 in town. Luckily every time I was able to pull over safely each time. I took the car to a dealer just a few weeks ago but they looked at it one day and could not duplicate the problem. It happens randomly so just my luck it did not occur when someone was inspecting it.

MY FAMILY AND I DROVE TO THE BEACH AND WE PARKED. THEN WHEN WERE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY I LOST POWER IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH/ MUSCLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF CAR. THAT IS WHEN A LIGHT CAME ON. I MANAGED TO GET HOME AT THAT POINT WE PULLED OUT THE MANUAL TO LOOK UP THE SYMBOL. IT TOO ABOUT 1 HOUR ALONG WITH THE INTERNET JUST TO FIGURE THAT IT WAS THE POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM. IT STATED THAT THE STEERING WOULD BE WITH OUT POWER AND COULD POTENTIAL LOSE CONTROL ALL TOGETHER. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM HOME TO DEALER AFTER LOOKING UP RECALLS I NOTICED THEIR WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME THING THAT HAPPEN TO ME BUT ON THE EAST COAST. HOWEVER MY VIN NUMBER SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL. BUT THE YEAR MAKE MODEL WAS. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THAT BUT EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS A 2013 IT HAVE LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. SHOWING IT WAS NOT DRIVEN MUCH OR MISSED USED. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN PART OR MANUFACTURE INSTALLATION OR WHATEVER. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MY FORD DEALERS AND COMPANY FOR NOT FIXING IT AND MAKING ME DO SO ESPACIAL BECAUSE THERE IS A RECALL ON IT OUT THERE SHOWING IT IS A DEFECT.

2013 FORD FUSION TITANIUM: ENGINE SHAKES THEN SHUTS ITS SELF OFF WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND DRIVING (HUGE SAFETY ISSUE,) TAKES A MINUTE TO START THEN EITHER RUNS FINE OR SHUTS OFF AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR (2020) AND THEY REPLACE A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THEN WHEN OFF AFTER A COUPLE DAYS. THE CODE WAS THE SAME AS LAST TIME. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH FORD ON FRIDAY. I SPEND SO MUCH MONEY REPAIRING THIS CAR. I'D RATHER TRADE IT IN THAN FIX A NEW AND OLD PROBLEM EVERY 4 MONTHS.

WHILE DRIVING WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING THAT THERE WAS A STEERING PROBLEM. MANY OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON IN TURN AND I PULL OFF THE ROAD WITH IT BEING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE OVER $2,000 TO REPAIR. I HAVE DONE SOME CHECKING AND FOUND THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL IN THE WORKS 15V250000 BECAUSE OF STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD LEAD TO MANY DEATHS. I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE REPAIRED AND NOT THE OWNER.

I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE OF HARD SHIFTING FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. TODAY WAS VERY SCARY FOR ME AS I WAS MANEUVERING ACROSS TRAFFIC MY CAR DID NOT WANT TO MOVE.IT MADE A HIGH GEAR SOUND, AS IF IT WAS REVVING IN A HIGH GEAR.IT SEEMED AS IF THE CAR WAS NOT SHIFTED INTO THE CORRECT GEAR.AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES IT STARTED TO DRIVE NORMALLY. IT JUST SEEMED LIKE THE GEARS HAD SLIPPED. I WAS LUCKY THAT IT WASN'T A BUSY TIME OF DAY, AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN TROUBLE NOT BEING ABLE TO GO ABOVE 2 MILES AN HOUR.I WAS AT A FAST FOOD PLACE AND HAD THE CAR IN PARK GEAR.I THAN SHIFTED IT TO DRIVE AND MY CAR MOVED OUT INTO TRAFFIC NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 30 FEET AND THAN JUST SEEMED LIKE IT WENT OUT OF GEAR BECAUSE IT BARELY MOVED

MY 2013 FORD FUSION IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE PASSENGER DOOR. IT WAS GETTING HARDER TO CLOSE WITH OUT SLAMMING IT. WELL ONE DAY IT FLEW OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET TURNING ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE DOOR WOULDN'T STAY CLOSED WITHOUT ROPE FROM THEN ON. GOOD THING I DIDN'T HAVE MY 3 KIDS WITH ME AT THE TIME. THE FORCE BENT THE HINGES AS WELL AS DENTED THE DOOR. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR FAULTY DOOR LATCHES AND TO BRING IT BACK IN 5 DAYS. THIS IS AFTER I TOLD THEM I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH A ROPE HOLDING THE DOOR CLOSED. I BRING MY CAR IN 5 DAYS LATER AND GET A RENTAL THAT FORD WOULDN'T COVER. WELL 2 DAYS LATER I GET A CALL SAYING THEY WILL NOT FIX THE RECALLED DOOR LATCH AND TO COME PICK UP MY CAR. I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND FOR OVER A MONTH NOW WITH MY DOOR ROPED SHUT BUT IT POPS OPEN STILL. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I'M NOT FINANCIALLY STABLE ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THE COSTLY REPAIR. I'M AT SUCH A LOSS THAT FORD WILL NOT FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER SHIP EVEN CLEARED THE RECALL ON LINE AND IT NOW SAYS ALL LATCHES ARE FIXED PLEASE? HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN? PLEASE HELP!
