Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012
This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.
If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicles hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicles powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.
An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

Power train, Wheels, Engine, Oct 9, 2019
I HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND NOW IT IS ON MY CREDIT RECORD BECAUSE IT IS BEYOND REPAIR, AND I RETURNED IT TO THE FINANCE COMPANY WHERE I PURCHASED IT FROM. I HAD TO REPLACE THE LUG NUTS BECAUSE THE FACTORY LUG WRENCH WOULDN'T WORK, THE ENGINE RAN HOT (REGULARLY) LEADING TO LONG TERM ENGINE DAMAGE, THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE SINCE I BEGAN FINANCING THE CAR. THE CAR ONLY HAD 64K MILES WHEN I BEGAN FINANCING IT, BY 77K, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE (FIRST TIME IN DEC.18, AND THEN JAN.19), AND IT STILL SHIFTED HARD (AT TIMES) AND STILL MADE A STRANGE SOUND. I AM INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT OVER THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE REPAIRS WERE AFTERMARKET (AND MEDIA INDICATES THAT EVEN THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT CAPABLE OF FIXING THE PROBLEM) IN APPROXIMATELY THE MONTH OF MAY, 2019, THE VEHICLE ALSO WOULD NOT START (KEY WOULD NOT TURN/NO LIGHTS CAME ON, ETC.). I CONTACTED THE CARMAKER, AND THEY HAD STATED THAT THEY'D "NEVER HEARD OF THIS KIND OF ISSUE BEFORE", BUT THEY DID OFFER TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK FROM ME (AT MARKET VALUE), BUT THEY BECAME DISINTERESTED WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS FINANCING THE VEHICLE FROM ELSEWHERE.

DOOR LATCH RECALL WAS PERFORMED JUST OVER A YEAR AGO. APPROX 14 MONTHS. (15S16) DOOR LATCHES HAVE A PAWL SPRING TAB THAT MAY BREAK. THIS CONDITION WILL TYPICALLY PREVENT THE DOOR FROM LATCHING. IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS WHERE THE DOOR IS ABLE TO BE CLOSED, THE DOOR MAY UNLATCH WHILE DRIVING, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY. SERVICE ACTION DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR DOOR LATCHES. THIS SERVICE MUST BE PERFORMED ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES AT NO CHARGE TO THE VEHICLE OWNER. HOWEVER THE PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT SHUT LAST WEEK. THIS OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL HAS BEEN CLOSED OUT. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER WHICH THEN I WAS QUOTED THE PARTS AND LABOR OF THE JOB. I CONTACTED FORD RELATIONS STATING THIS STILL FALLS UNDER THE DESCRIPTION OF 15S16 HOWEVER THEY CANNOT REOPEN THE RECALL ONCE IT HAS BEEN CLOSED. WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH ON A CROWDED HIGHWAY, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2013 FORD FUSION WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE OF "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY", THERE WAS NO EARLY WARNING. THE MESSAGE WAS FREIGHTING AS I WAS THEN AFRAID TO TURN THE WHEEL AS IT SAID STEERING LOSS, NOT "POWER STEERING LOSS". I PULLED OVER AND FIGURED IT WAS POWER STEERING AND NURSED IT TO A SAFE PLACE. I REACHED BACK TO CLOSE IT AGAIN AND IT JUST BOUNCED CLOSED AND THEN OPEN AGAIN. FINDING A PLACE TO PARK, I EXAMINED THE LATCH, WHICH WOULD NOT CATCH AT ALL WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. I HAD TO USE ROPES AND BUNGEE CORDS TO SECURE THE DOOR TO GET HOME AND MY 4 YEAR OLD HAD TO RIDE IN THE FRONT SEAT SINCE I COULDN'T RISK HIM BEING IN THE BACK WITH A DOOR THAT WASN'T SECURE. PARKED MY VEHICLE TODAY AND IT WAS PERFECTLY FINE. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT A COUPLE HOURS LATER I STARTED IT AND IMMEDIATELY I GOT TWO WARNING MESSAGES ON MY CAR STATING TWO OF MY ASSISTED FEATURES WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND MY POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY GONE. STARTED DOING RESEARCH INTO THIS ISSUE BY CALLING MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY COULD GET ME IN AND THEY SAID THEY COULDNT TODAY AND TO CALL BACK THE NEXT DAY AND TRY THEN. STARTED LOOKING ONLINE IN OTHER FORUMS AND RESEARCH INTO RECALLS AND NOTICED A RECALL HAS BEEN PUT OUT FOR POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONING BUT MY VEHICLE WASNT LISTED IN THE RECALL BY VIN NUMBER. BUT YEAR MAKE AND MODEL ALL MATCHED. CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY SAID SINCE MY VIN DOESNT MATCH ON THE RECALL LIST THEY WONT LOOK AT IT THAT WAY. DROVE MY VEHICLE HOME WITH NO POWER STEERING AND RAN A COUPLE TESTS MYSELF, I FOUND OUT MY POWER STEERING IS ELECTRONIC. HOOKING UP MY DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER AND NO CODES WERE FOUND. UNHOOKED MY BATTERY FOR A LITTLE BIT TO TRY AND RESET THE WARNINGS THAT WERE ON AND THAT DIDN'T HELP, I DID A CHECK ON MY VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE ALL OF THE BASICS WERE GOOD, TIRE PRESSURE, FUSES, ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE POTENTIALLY WRONG AND EVERYTHING ELSE CHECKS OUT. NO OTHER WARNINGS ARE ON IN MY VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE TWO ABOUT MY ASSISTED STEERING AND I CANT RECALL THE SECOND ONE.

MY CAR WAS APART OF THE HEADLIGHT RECALL IN 2013. AFTER THE FIX THE DRIVER HEADLIGHT WAS NEVER THE SAME. RECENTLY THAT DRIVER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. TO CHANGE A HEADLIGHT IT COSTS $30 PER BULB AND THEN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF TIME TO REMOVE/REPLACE THE BUMPER AT $160 AN HOUR. IN MY CASE, IT WASN'T THE BULB BUT THE BODY MODULE CONTROL WHICH HANDLES ALL THE LIGHTING IN MY CAR. THE HEADLIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AT 12 VOLTS, BUT WAS AT A 9 VOLTS AND I'M TOLD IT FINALLY SHORTED. I THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE HEADLIGHT REPAIR DONE YEARS AGO. THIS ENDED UP BEING A $1000 REPAIR. FOR A HEADLIGHT THIS IS A TERRIBLE BUILD FOR CONSUMERS.

I AM WRITING TODAY TO SHARE WITH YOU AN ISSUE WE ARE HAVING WITH OUR 2013 FORD FUSION. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DURING THE RAIN. WHEN THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY FAILED. LUCKILY, WE DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. THE FIRST TIME WAS 7 MONTHS AGO AND WE HAD TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION BOTH TIMES. THERE OBIVIOUSLY IS A PROBLEM WITH THEM AND I FEEL SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE SOMONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2012 FUSIONS FOR THE STEERING RACK, BUT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BUILT AT THE SAME PLANT, DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD, AS THE RECALL ORIGINATED FROM IN HERMOSILLO MEXICO. I SURE HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO STOP EVERYONE FROM HAVING THIS PROBLEM.

I HAD THE RECALL DONE ON MY VEHICLE AND NOW I HAVE TO FILL THE COOLANT EVERY TWO WEEKS, ITS CAUSING MY CAR TO OVERHEAT. THEY WILL NOT LOOK AT IT, OR FIX THE ISSUE THEY CREATED. THEY AS WELL REPLACED A PIECE OF THE HEAD GASKET IN WHICH MAY BE A SOURCE OF IT. IT'S BEGAN THE OVERHEATING ISSUE, WHAT MORE IS GOING TO OCCUR?

RECALL OF DOOR LOCKS, FULLY REPLACED IN 2017. WAS AT WORK YESTERDAY AND THE DOOR LATCH FAILED JUST LIKE INITIAL INCIDENT. WENT TO CLOSE THE DOOR & IT BOUNCED BACK LIKE SOMETHING WAS STOPPING IT FROM CLOSING. AS PER FORD THEY AREN'T RESPONSIBLE.

ALSO, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATORS WERE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOWN AND COUNTRY FORD (6015 PRESTON HWY, LOUISVILLE, KY), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

AFTER I FILL THE GAS TANK AND PARK MY CAR IN THE GARAGE, I CAN SMELL GAS. AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN A FEW MILES THE SMELL GOES AWAY. THE SMELL IS ONLY PRESENT RIGHT AFTER I FILL THE TANK UP UNTIL THE FUEL LEVEL DROPS DOWN FROM FULL. THIS ONLY STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO BUT HAS BEEN PRESENT EVERY TIME THE TANK HAS BEEN FILLED SINCE THEN. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM (13S04) SO I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER TO TRY TO GET IT FIXED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT THE RECALL WAS CREATED TO FIX SO I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD RE-LOOK AT WHAT CARS THEY ARE WILLING TO REPAIR. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY EASILY COULD HAVE OVERLOOKED SOME CARS THAT HAD THAT PROBLEM.

Seat belts, Sep 13, 2019
THE REAR MIDDLE SEAT BELT LOCKS UP WHEN THE SEAT IS TILTED DOWN AND DRIVEN A COUPLE OF MILES. THIS DOESN'T LET THE REAR SEAT TO COME BACK UP. THE ONLY WAY TO RELEASE IT IS TO COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE THE SEAT AND THE SEAT BELT EVERY TIME. USERS UNBOLTING AND BOLTING THE SEAT BELT REPEATEDLY CAN EASILY LEAD TO UNINTENDED ERRORS IN REASSEMBLY.

INITIAL IGNITION OF THE CAR RESULTS IN ENGINE STALL OUT POST ABNORMAL IGNITION TIME. FUSION WILL DISPLAY "POWER RUN ACTIVE" THEN "PRESS BRAKE TO START". THIS WILL REPEAT AFTER ANOTHER IGNITION ATTEMPT AND RE-SHOW THE SAME MESSAGES ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER A THIRD IGNITION ATTEMPT THE ENGINE DOES NOT STALL OUT. THE PROBLEM IS NOT A SUDDEN ONSET BUT INITIAL SYMPTOMS OF THE ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR WILL STALL OUT AFTER 10 SECONDS OF DRIVING. INITIAL RE-IGNITION POST STALL RESULTS IN NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE CAR WITHOUT EXTRA ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS EVENT BECOMES INCREASINGLY COMMON OVER TIME UNTIL IT SIMPLY STALLS OUT IMMEDIATELY POST IGNITION. DESPITE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO A FORD CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC, NO CODES ARE GIVEN BY THE COMPUTER WHICH RENDERS DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAULTY PART OR CAUSE OF THE ISSUE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. PROBLEM MAY PRESENT ITSELF AS FAULTY ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, OR STARTER. HOWEVER, EVEN AFTER REPLACEMENT OF ANY POSSIBLY FAULTY AFOREMENTIONED PARTS THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.
