Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S43. 3. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. 4. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  18. Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012

This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.

If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicle’s hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicle’s powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

  19. Exterior lighting, headlightsNov 30, 2012

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.

An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

I WANT TO SELL MY CAR. THE SEATBELT RECALL DOES NOT HAVE A FIX DATE YET. I CANNOT SELL MY CAR TO A DEALER AND GET A MARKET PRICE UNTIL THE SEATBELT IS FIXED. THE DEALER IS SAYING 3RD QUARTER. THIS SEEMS LIKE TOO LONG. ALSO NOT SAFE.

  2. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 13, 2017

MY VEHICHLE HAS HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GO ON AND OFF NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, AND SMELLED A FUNNY SMELL COMING THROUGH THE VENTS. I GET REGULAR MAINTENANCE, HAVE HAD THE CODES READ AS WELL AS DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE MOST I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS THAT THERE WAS A P144C CODE WHICH IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM WRONG. NOW WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO FORD THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED 3000 DOLLARS IN WORK DONE AND HAVE YET TO ADDRESS THE 17S09 RECALL EVEN UPON MY CONCERNS. I WAS TREATED UNFAIRLY AT MY LOCAL FORD AND TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP. NOW AM BEING TOLD THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN OVERHEATING AND THAT MY CYLINDER HEAD GASKET NEEDS REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD AND THEY WONT EVEN HELP, UNTIL THEY SEND A LETTER TO ME NEXT WEEK. MY CAR IS ALREADY IN THE SHOP AND THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE ADRESSED. I NEED HELP.

  3. Structure, Apr 11, 2017

WHILST MAKING A TURN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN AND NOW WILL NOT CLOSE/LOCK, HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT WHILST IN MOTION, FORD HAS RECALLED THE FUSION FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY VIN IS NOT ONE OF THEM. SURELY THOSE FAULTY LATCHES ARE IN MY VEHICLE TOO!

  4. Structure, Apr 11, 2017

DOOR LATCH SAFETY RECALL 15S16 THIS RECALL REPLACEMENT WAS MADE ON 12/2015 FOR THE VEHICLE. ON 4/8/2017 THE VEHICLE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE OR LOCK. IT ACTUALLY OPENS WHILE MOVING AND HAD TO BE SECURED VIA BUNGEE CORD TO MAKE IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP. UNFORTUNATELY, ACCORDING TO FORD MOTOR CO, ONCE THE RECALL IS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE, THE WARRANTY ONLY LASTS FOR ONE YEAR. THEREFORE, THE WARRANTY RAN OUT ON 12/2016 FOR THE RECALLED REPLACEMENT PART. FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT HONOR THE REPLACED PART AND IN FACT STATES THAT IT WILL COST ME $500 TO FIX. THIS IS A MAJOR RECALL ISSUE FOR FORD AND THE RECALL HAS BEEN EXTENDED TWICE SINCE THE ORIGINAL ONE. I WILL ATTACH THE INFORMATION BELOW. WITHOUT THE LATCH, THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, UNABLE TO BE LOCKED, AND CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM TO BE CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. I WANT AN INVESTIGATION ON THE REPLACEMENT DOOR LATCH PARTS. I DO NOT FEEL AS THE OTHER DOORS ARE SAFE EITHER SINCE THEY WERE APPARENTLY REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME UNDER THE RECALL. FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THIS ISSUE AS THE ORIGINAL FIX IS DEFECTIVE. THIS RECALL AFFECTS OVER 2 MILLION CARS. FORD ALSO TOLD ME IF THEY HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER VEHICLES, THEY COULD DO AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION ON THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. IF A RECALL IS IN FACT MADE ON THE PART A 2ND TIME, I WOULD NOT QUALIFY IF FORD HELPS TO REDUCE THE COST I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE NOW. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED! I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO INCLUDE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS MAINLY USED M-F FOR A WORK VEHICLE FOR A SINGLE DRIVER, NO PASSENGERS. THE DRIVER ALSO HAS BEEN DEPLOYED MANY MONTHS IN THE LIFE OF THIS VEHICLE AND THAT DOOR HASN'T BEEN USED MUCH. I COULD ALSO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION FOR THOSE DATES, AS WELL. PLEASE OPEN AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE, AS IT IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY PROBLEM!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN WHILE I WAS TURNING A CORNER. I STOPPED TO TRY AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. THIS DOOR LATCH WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED DURING A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.

2013 FORD FUSION ENGINE ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH WITH MY HUSBAND AND SON. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP. I PUMPED THE BREAKS , WHEN I REALIZED THAT WAS NOT WORKING I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK ALL THE WAY. THE CAR FINALLY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BUT WOULD NOT COMPLETELY AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL IN ACCELERATION. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO SLOW IT DOWN TO A SAFE ENOUGH SPEED, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP 2 MILES AWAY WHERE IT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE. THE DEALERSHIP IS GREAT, ITS FORD CORPORATE THAT IS THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY RECALL THAT NEEDS ACTION RIGHT AWAY. WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR OVER 2 WEEKS. THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD CORPORATE STATED THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. FORD CORPORATE HAS WALKED THROUGH STEPS WITH THE TECHNICIANS TO TRY AND FIX THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY PARTS AND FAILED AT EVERY ATTEMPT. THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND REFUSE TO ACCOMMODATE US IN ANY WAY. I CANT EVEN GET A RETURN CALL FROM FORD CORPORATE. TIME FOR A LAWYER. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE DRIVING THIS CAR.

THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE FOR 6 MONTHS, YET THERE IS STILL NO FIX IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I AM DRIVING AROUND IN A SAFETY-COMPROMISED VEHICLE EVERY DAY. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MY OPTIONS, AS COMPANIES ARE SUPPOSED TO FIX RECALLS IN A TIMELY MANNER. IT HAS BEEN HALF A YEAR THAT I HAVE HAD TO FEEL UNSAFE.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE BEEP TURNED ON, THE DASHBOARD SYMBOL SAID, "DOOR AJAR," AND STOPPED THE CAR. MY PASSENGER COULDN'T CLOSE THE DOOR. SHE HAD TO HOLD IT CLOSE TO GET TO OUR DESTINATION BECAUSE WE WERE 10 MILES FROM OUR HOME AND ON A BUSY HIGHWAY (HWY 301).

TAKATA RECALL. CAN I GET IT FIXED ? ALSO SOMETHING WITH MY DOOR.

  22. Engine, Mar 23, 2017

I'LL MAKE IT SHORT. I'M EXPERIENCING THE FAILING THROTTLE BODY THAT FORD HAS ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM FOR, INCLUDING 2013 FUSIONS. THERE'S ARTICLES ALLOVER GOOGLE COVERING THIS TOPIC AND IM SURE THE NHTSA HAS HEARD OF IT BECAUSE THEY WERE PURSUING A RECALL AND FORD WENT AHEAD AND DID THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. IT OCCURS ABOUT ONCE EVERY 5-10K MILES. WHICH FOR ME IS ABOUT EVERY OTHER MONTH. HOWEVER, THEY REFUSE TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY SAY MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM. I FIND IT DISAPPOINTING THAT THEY ADMIT THERE IS A FAULT AND IT'S COMMON KNOWLEDGE AMONG THE MECHANICS THAT THE SENSOR INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY COVER IS KNOWN TO GO BAD, BUT MY VIN JUST DIDN'T MAKE THE MAGIC "LIST" OF VINS INCLUDED TO BE COVERED. I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER HELP AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT YES, IT'S UNSAFE AND I SHOULD GET IT FIXED, BUT NO SINCE MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED (EVEN THOUGH I'M IN A 2013 FUSION, WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM) I HAVE NO COVERAGE FROM THE PROGRAM. IT'S LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF BUSY 5 LANE HIGHWAYS IN DETROIT AND LANSING, WITH CARS STILL GOING BY AT 80MPH WHILE I HAVE TO POWER OFF MY CAR TO LET THE SENSOR RESET AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND THE CAR ACTS LIKE NOTHING WAS EVER WRONG.

  23. Power train, Mar 22, 2017

PLACED MY VEHICLE IN REVERSE, COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, I TRIED TO PLACE MY CAR IN DRIVE AND THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS STUCK.I CALLED THE TOW TRUCK, BECAUSE I COULDN'T MOVE MY CAR. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME IT WAS A BROKEN TRANSMISSION CABLE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE HAS 56200 MILES AND DOES NOT FALL INTO THE POWERTRAIN FACTORY WARRANTY.

  24. Electronic stability control (ESC), Service brakes, Mar 21, 2017

MY ABS KEEP COMING ON IT GIVES THREE WARNING. CHECK ADVANCE TRACTION, NO HILL SIDE START. IT CLEAR ONCE LIGHT GO OFF. THE BRAKE THUMP. THEIR IS A SPRING NOISE THE STEERING BECOME BIND UP. THIS HAPPEN AFTER THE CAR MOVES ANY DISTANCE WHEN IT IS DECIDE TO.

WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY 2 HOURS FROM HOME AND I HAD A WARNING LIGHT COME ON, ENGINE COOLANT TEMPTRESS OVERHEATED. SO ME AND MY HUSBAND PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, WE HAD COOLANT.WE SAT FOR ABOUT 10 MINS TO BE SAFE. AND PROCEEDED DOWN THE HIGHWAY. AFTER 2 MINS WE HAD ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT COME ON STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE. AT THIS POINT HE COULDN'T MOVE THE WHEEL SO WE PULLED OVER AGAIN AND AS SOON AS WE STOPPED BLACK SMOKE CAME IN THE VENTS AND UP THE WINDSHIELD. AS WE OPEN OUR DOORS THERE IS FLAMES COMING IN THE DOOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WE QUICKLY EVACUATED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED 911.
