Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.
A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.
Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Power train, Electrical system, Nov 10, 2023
I bought from a dealer in live oak and told there was no recalls I only had car 2 months and the car transmission is acting crazy it smells like burnt oil or brake fluid leaking the radio has a major electrical problem it turns off and resets if I use the Bluetooth to talk through radio. This car all in all has been nothing but huge problems and here I am paying a car note on a car that's barely drivable.
Steering, Oct 29, 2023
My daughter was on the way to work, in the middle of traffic going around another vehicle at the time and without any warning, the power steering just went out. It was as though the steering wheel locked up or there was no power steering capabilities whatsoever and she barely made it off of the roadway. This could have caused an accident and It scared her so bad that she was crying when she called me immediately after it happened. I didn’t know what to do so I told her to crank up, put the car in drive and see what it does. The steering was fully functional then so she drove on to work but was very nervous thinking it may happen again. I did read that there is a recall for this exact issue on particular models of Fusions but it does not include our model; therefore, I am submitting our complaint and requesting that the recall to be updated to include ALL models of 2013 Ford Fusions for the safety of ALL owners. Thank you!
Visibility/wiper, Oct 26, 2023
Wipers stopped working. Had fused checked. Fuse was not the problem. Ford dealer to complete diagnostic testing as no other auto repair shop will fix the issue. There are 22 reports for faulty wipers, wipers not working, Ford refusal to issue a recall. Meanwhile, they issued a recall for pickup truck wiper recall. Obviously, it is possible Ford Fusion Titanium 2013 and other vehicles could suffer the same issue(s). The cost is hundreds of dollars and Ford says "oh well." Meanwhile vehicles cost $20,000 + no accountability for faulty parts.
Service brakes, Oct 25, 2023
I am receiving warning lights regarding my electronic parking brakes. I took my car to a Ford dealership in Ankeny for a recall on my front brake lines to be fixed and mentioned this to the maintenance dept. They couldn't do anything without putting my car on a scanner (or whatever they do) because, being a widow I did not have the $100 they charge. Thus I am still driving my car with the warning lights on. I hope it is safe for me to drive it.

As I was going down the highway my car started smoking dramatically. There were no warning lights so I assumed it might be a belt. I pulled to the side of the road and opened the hood to find flames coming from the backside of the engine. I have had it in the shop now for the last two months and the initial thought was that the water pump could have caused the issue. However, after that set of repairs it was burning oil. Further investigation has shown that the head is cracked.

The contact stated that the vehicle began to lose forward momentum and she managed to pull over and turn the vehicle off. The contact stated that she waited about 20 minutes and turned the vehicle back on. The contact stated that the "overheat" warning illuminated and she could not accelerate above 5 MPH. My complaint does not concern an accident. It concerns the two incomplete recalls referenced above. I have been trying to schedule these repairs since, I believe, February and the Service Department at the local Ford dealership, Mac Haik Ford, 4242 East Sam Houston Pkwy S, Pasadena, TX 77505, will not even respond to my requests to schedule the work. I have left detailed messages with the Haik contact representative (vehicle model and year, the Campaign/NHTSA numbers that I want to have done, my phone number, my email address, etc.) as requested by Haik's contact person and no one from the Service Department has ever responded, not even once. In order to give Ford and Haik a final chance before filing this complaint, I left TWO scheduling requests this week- one on Monday or Tuesday and one yesterday. The Service Department did not respond to either. However, in response to my repeated efforts to schedule this safety recall work, I have been spammed with car sales solicitation calls and emails back from the dealership beginning on March 1. (Perhaps earlier, but March 1 is the first undeleted email that is still on my computer.) These safety recall campaigns are not being administered, and processed as such by Ford Motor Company, at least not by its dealership in Pasadena, Texas. The Mac Haik dealership obviously has no interest in doing this recall work. I suppose they can make more money doing other work. In any event, Ford's recall notices are just used as sales prospect-generating tools. They are not actually accepting cars and doing the recall work.

Steering, Aug 8, 2023
I was driving on 7/26/2023 and the power steering system malfunctioned, resulting in complete loss of power steering. I received a warning message: "Steering Assist Malfunction Service Required" I lost control of the vehicle momentarily until I realized I could still steer, but with great difficulty. I pulled over, turned off the car, restarted it and regained power steering for a few seconds before it failed again, giving the aforementioned warning message. From that point, power steering was completely lost and did not come back after stopping and restarting again. Fortunately, I was able to get my car home without incident but it was very difficult to steer and making tight turns was impossible. I took the vehicle to Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor, MI who told me, "The power steering rack has an internal failure that won't reset or clear." They indicated that the only way to restore the power steering is by replacing the electronic power steering rack. I was quoted $3950.80 for this and my car is currently undergoing repair because I need a mode of transportation. There is a known issue with the Ford Fusion (https://www.consumerreports.org/consumerist/ford-recalls-nearly-445k-vehicles-for-power-steering-failure-fuel-leak-issues/) and Ford has issued recalls for 2011 to 2013 model years. Mine is a 2013, but the specific model (Energi) is not covered. I experienced the same issue so Ford's recall should cover the Energi model and I should be reimbursed for the repair costs.
