Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will inspect Focus vehicles and replace the clutch assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S43. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

  2. Service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components, hoses, lines/piping, and fittingsMar 10, 2023

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid.

A brake fluid leak will increase brake pedal travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the front brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 27, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S12.

  3. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, pedals and linkagesJan 13, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 Mustang vehicles originally sold or ever registered, in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Hawaii. Exposure to certain environmental conditions, such as high temperatures, high humidity, and salt air can cause the brake pedal bumper to corrode and separate from the brake pedal.

A separated brake pedal bumper can cause the brake lights to illuminate continuously, causing confusion to other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. On automatic transmission vehicles, a missing brake pedal bumper can allow the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the brake pedal bumpers and clutch pedal bumpers, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on March 4, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 13, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S02.

  5. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

SUBJECT: URGENT COMPLAINT: Deceptive Practices/Misrepresentation & Services Not Rendered (Woodhouse Ford of Omaha) I. Actionable Safety Issue Summary This complaint concerns fraudulent billing and dangerous misrepresentation by Woodhouse Ford of Omaha, which claimed a vehicle's 3rd rack and pinion system was "safe" on 2/19/2026 after a known safety issue, following a previous failure. They further charged $219.22 for unrendered/improper ABS programing repairs that was not successful because the electric rack and pinion is defective on 3/5/2026 and fabricated invoice records to shift liability. II. Parties Involved •Consumer: [XXX] •Dealer/Service Provider: Woodhouse Ford of Omaha, Service Manager Jeremy Sullivan, Technician Anthony Rubio. •Financial Institution: First National Bank of Omaha (Regulated by OCC). III. Nature of the Dispute 1.Safety Hazard/Misrepresentation (2/19/2026): Service Manager Jeremy Sullivan and Tech Anthony Rubio stated the vehicle’s rack and pinion was "safe" despite a prior failure. This misrepresentation has left me with a vehicle that has had the rack and pinion fail or require replacement three times in under a year. 2.Services Not Rendered (3/5/2026): Charged $219.22 for "programming the ABS module" which was not rendered or not performed correctly. 3.Fabricated Documentation: Woodhouse Ford created fraudulent service invoices stating I diagnosed the ABS fault and declined further diagnosis. This is an attempt to evade liability for ongoing, dangerous defects. IV. Regulatory Violations & Requested Action The described actions violate consumer protection laws, including: •Dodd-Frank UDAAP (12 USC § 5536): Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices. •Fair Credit Billing Act (15 USC § 1666): Billing error/services not received. •Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.11): Procedures for resolving errors. Requested Action: Initiate an investigation into Woodhouse Ford of Omaha’s service practices and safety diagnostics. As I was driving, making a right turn and with out warning my steering wheel before excessively hard to control, turn. Because of the sudden wheel tightening as I was making this right turn I almost collided with a vehicle in next lane on highway. My brakes were in good standing but I had to really step down on my brakes to gain control of the steering wheel. I put in the shop and got a multi point inspection with repairs costs of over 3000 to replace steering wheel gear bolts etc in which I can't afford at this time

  8. Electrical system, Mar 17, 2026

Backup camera fails to display image. The camera started failing about two years ago in 2024. I reported to Ford and to the dealership. I was informed no recall had been issued for my model year but has been issued for other model years. For the past year the camera has been completely non functional.

  9. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Feb 23, 2026, fire

My 2014 Ford Fusion caught fire on January 19, 2026, while parked and stationary inside my residential garage. The vehicle could not be shifted out of park during the incident. Emergency services responded, and an official fire department report was generated. I had owned the vehicle for less than one year and performed no mechanical, electrical, or aftermarket modifications. The vehicle had undergone parking brake service at a licensed dealer prior to delivery, with no work performed after I took possession.

  10. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Feb 18, 2026

The rearview camera on my 2014 Ford Fusion has been malfunctioning for several years. When the vehicle is placed in reverse, the camera image frequently does not display, displays intermittently, or fails while already in use. When the system does activate, the image is sometimes mirrored or reversed, making it difficult or unsafe to interpret the surroundings behind the vehicle. Overall, the camera functions correctly in approximately 1 out of 10 attempts, and cannot be relied upon for safe operation. This failure is unpredictable and occurs without warning, creating a safety risk due to the inability to consistently see pedestrians, children, or obstacles behind the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership for this issue; however, no remedy was provided because the vehicle was outside the warranty period. I am aware that Ford has issued recalls and extended coverage for rearview camera failures on later model year Ford Fusion vehicles (2015 and newer) exhibiting similar symptoms. My vehicle demonstrates the same defect behavior, despite being excluded based solely on model year. Although rearview cameras were optional equipment in 2014, this vehicle was factory-equipped with a camera, and the failure constitutes a safety-related defect rather than normal wear. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether this defect affects earlier model years, including the 2014 Ford Fusion.

I had my scan tool and pulled various codes regarding the PCM and losing connection to ABS, steering column, power steering, etc. I took it into my mechanic and they were not able to replicate the issue.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while leaving a parking lot at approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited for a while before restarting the vehicle. The contact restarted the vehicle 3 times before being able to turn the steering wheel; however, the power steering functionality remained inoperable. The contact stated that the Service Advancetrac, Lane Keep Assis system malfunction, Hill Start Assist Not Available, Steering Assist Fault, and Service Required messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The dealer was contacted and informed of the failure. The dealer suggested that the contact take the battery to be tested. The battery was tested and there was no failure found with the battery. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

A third party hacked my CPU/Transmission Control System causing malfunction with the engine. The engine randomly would cut off during traffic, and I would need to press gas directly after starting the vehicle to go. My vehicle was fairly new and transmission module should not be ineffective after purchasing my vehicle last July 2023 with less than 80K miles. The notification that makes the vehicle stay in the lane would malfunction randomly notifying me of failure to sensor active crash alert. I also have inability to connect to Ford vehicle app with no reason provided to cut off WiFi connectivity. Please review external IP as I can hear communication of third party observing my way of driving and communication while attempting to drive causing distraction affecting safety of myself, my location placement, and health of the car. Possible CPU/transmission/AC connectivity from July 2023 to Malfunction of vehicle starting 10/2024.

Backup camera operates intermittently in when in reverse, coming on for about 10 seconds before cutting or not coming on at all, which causes near misses when backing up. Also, camera periodically remains on for 10-15 seconds once shifting into drive which is distracting when pulling into traffic and causes near misses. Furthermore, the camera sometimes activates for 10-15 seconds when shifted into drive from park, again very distracting when pulling into traffic. Problem has persisted for at least 5 years, most recent incident today. Service consultant at two different Ford dealers denied knowledge of this problem.

When driving the car will stall out and die in the driving state. This occurs without warning from any sensor light error warnings. After acceleration to 35 it will sputter as if the fuel is not flowing, yet then it will correct but stall and completely die during operation while driving. Have had both the upper and lower full pumps installed within the last calendar yet still currently having the problem or issue. Experiencing the exact same Eco boost concerns as other Ford models have been recalled for as of recent
