  1. Engine, Mar 1, 2023

My fusion is experiencing a coolant leak in the engine. After research, I have found it is a KNOWN problem by ford, that several people are experiencing. They are refusing to issue and recalls or cover any repair costs associated with the issue.

  2. Engine and engine cooling, Feb 27, 2023

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the coolant warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the coolant was topped off; however, the failure returned soon after the repair. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where it was discovered that coolant had leaked into an engine cylinder which led to engine failure. The contact was referred to the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,273. The consumer stated the engine needs to be replaced at the cost of $9,000 to $10,000, but too expensive to be fixed. The contact stated that they still do not have the means to replace the engine. The vehicle sits in their garage with no repairs done to it.

  3. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Feb 18, 2023

I've had my Ford Fusion for about 9 months now I have white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I asked was it the head gasket and was told no. I was told it was a cracked radiator, water pump and thermostat. Cost me almost $1,700. Only for the white smoke to come back a week later.

  4. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Feb 7, 2023

I've had my ford for almost a year and found that coolant was getting into my engine and causing it to overheat and went to get it checked out at a Ford dealership only for them to tell me I would have to buy a new engine I can't afford. I've been looking online at all the problems that could arise if I don't switch the engine like the car starting on fire in hot summer days and can't afford to buy a new car as I had to get a loan for it and can't even drive it much for worry of anything happening. It's my main source of transportation to work and without it I could lose my job. I can't afford to get a new car and another loan for that as well while paying for my ford's loan. I've tried to do research for a recall on the engine but nothing seems to be showing up and I don't know what to do but just keep driving the car and continuously filling the coolant waiting for the day my engine fails on me or it starts on fire and maybe my insurance will cover the costs. I really enjoy the car and have had other ford's before but for the dealership to sell me a car that would fail on me and have me pay more for an engine is not right. This isn't okay and I'm in a situation I can't get out of without being put more into debt with getting more loans.

  5. Air bags, Engine, Jan 25, 2023

  8. Engine, Dec 31, 2022

Two days ago on 12/29/22 I noticed white smoke coming from tailpipe. Later that day noticed the coolant level very low. Later on that day started the vehicle and it violently shuttered for about 5 or 6 seconds after starting. This same thing had happened to my daughter the day before. On 12/30/22 was at mechanics discussing catalytic converter issue due to an alarm and he noticed the smoke. I told him about the low coolant level and the violent starting. He said these motors (1.5l Ecoboost) are notorious for having a cracked cylinder wall and that I probably had that or a blown head gasket. He said he determined this due to the white exhaust smoke and smell and the coolant level being low and the violent startups. I came home and began online research. There are thousands of these claims on these motors as well as a lawsuit against Ford, which my vehicle falls into.

  9. Engine, Dec 29, 2022

Flex Plates in Ford Fusions with EcoBoost engines are continuously breaking. They have a recall issued for Ford Edge 2016 with the same engine as Ford Fusion 2016 but none for the Fire Fusion. Once these break you can lose power while driving which can be extremely dangerous if on a highway. There is clearly an issue with the flex plates used and a recall should be issued to fix these.

  10. Engine, Dec 28, 2022

I took my 2016 Fusion in to have the timing belt changed after crossing the recommended 125,000 miles. I received a call from the head mechanic telling me that they had halted all work due to evidence of coolant leaking into the engine. He told me that this was a common defect/design flaw found in these cars that Ford has yet to issue a recall on. He then quoted me an exorbitant number for complete engine replacement. A number I cannot afford. Another Fusion was in their bay that day with exactly the same problem. They had already extracted the engine from it and showed me the area of the engine that was so poorly designed. I took photos, as it was the same engine in my vehicle. The channels for coolant to flow between cylinders in the block were made too large, thus causing the block walls to become compromised, allowing coolant to flow INTO the block, which will eventually seize the engine, which is terrible dangerous and costly. There were no signs that this was occurring with my engine (not lights, not driving issues that I am aware of as a layman). Missing coolant was likely refilled during my oil changes, and no one informed me that my coolant was always low. After looking up the problem online, I found a HUGE community of Ford owners (not just Fusion owners) who have or have had the same problem with the EcoBoost engine. Thousands. Perhaps millions. This MUST be remedied. There are outstanding lawsuits that have not yet been resolved, and I will likely be joining one of the Class Actions if something is not done soon.

  11. Engine, Engine and engine cooling, Dec 22, 2022

Received a mssg on the car panel that car temp was too high & this vehicle was in the shop for several weeks back in July for something related to the engine.

  12. Engine, Dec 15, 2022

Engine coolant leaking from the head gasket due to poor engine design. Safety of passengers in and outside the vehicle. Vehicle was running hot and possibly could have caused A major malfunction and blew the engine. This has been confirmed by a dealership and an independent service dealer. The check engine light only threw codes for a cylinder 2 misfire. After replacing all spark plug. the problem of the leaking coolant was then noticed without a warning light.

  13. Engine and engine cooling, Dec 12, 2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle was overheating. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that there was no coolant in the reservoir. The contact added coolant to the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the mechanic stated that cylinder #2 misfired and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 77,200.

  14. Engine, Engine and engine cooling, Nov 29, 2022

Coolant intrusion leak busted a block and now I need a new engine. I took good care of this car. It all of a sudden started running hot, water sloshing sounds, engine light came on. Took it to Ford auto shop in Wiggins Ms where it was purchased by my son in law and then I payed him $16,000 cash for it and only had it a year. It all happened so fast on the interstate bridge and it was very dangerous because the car shut down quick and I had to call a tow truck. Please help me get another engine this is so wrong. I hate to know this could happen to someone else with a Ford Fusion and cause a fatality. This problem is 100 percent Fords responsibility.

  15. Engine, Nov 12, 2022

While driving around 35 mph I turned on cruise control and shortly after lost acceleration and power to the engine. I put the vehicle in park and pressed the engine start and the engine turned back on like normal. The next day while driving I lost power again while going about 15 mph. The car randomly loses acceleration and pressing the accelerator does nothing. The "Full Accessory Power Active" message popped up. The check engine light is on and shows code P1450. This is so dangerous since you have no warning and it can happen at any time and any speed. I am taking the car into the dealer to inspect.

  16. Engine, Oct 29, 2022

Check engine light continually comes on and off since August 2022. I currently have 56642.0 miles on vehicle and always get routine maintenance and oil changes. Never had this issue untill this year. Please look into this issue Ford. Next week I will have a diagnostic done and will file another complaint if this is a serious and expensive engine service I will need. Thank you.

  17. Engine, Oct 21, 2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was slightly stalling as the check engine light was illuminated. The contact also stated that she needed to refill the antifreeze more frequently. A personal diagnostic reader was used and the failure code for a cylinder misfire was retrieved. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where they confirmed that there was no recall under the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

  18. Engine, Oct 12, 2022

My car began overheating and immediately would run fine. After researching what was going on I took my car to Herring Ford in Picayune, MS. They stated to me that the motor would have to be replaced due to a leak from the coolant, but that I could safely drive the car if I kept the coolant level full. After more research I found that year models 2013-2015 were recalled for the same issue. I purchased my 2016 Ford Fusion in December of 2015. I am requesting that my car be added to the recall due to the same defect and that I am reimbursed the full price I paid to have my car repaired. No warning lights appeared unless the coolant level was low. I filled the car with coolant daily to keep it from running hot. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk due to having to stop on the side of the highway when my car would run hot. This was an almost daily occurrence.

  19. Engine, Oct 12, 2022

Check Engine light went on, car has under 95k miles. Upon inspection at dealership, they quoted a new engine as the solution due to a coolant leak into the cylinder (#3). Cost of fix is around $11k...not even close to a reasonable problem for a car of this age! Am being told this is a problem with the long block throughout this line. Need Ford to step up and fix this problem.

  20. Engine and engine cooling, Oct 11, 2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the owner of the vehicle indicated while operating the vehicle the engine would overheat and the engine coolant needed to be added daily. The vehicle was taken to the local service center which diagnosed that the engine coolant had leaked into the engine oil. The cause of the failure had not yet been determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 116,823.

  21. Engine and engine cooling, Oct 11, 2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated when he started the vehicle, there was noticeable shaking and vibration from the engine. The contact stated the "check coolant" light was illuminated. The contact stated he was able to shift the vehicle into drive (D) and it continued to shake and vibrate from 5 MPH up to 35 MPH and eventually smooth out and operate normally. The failure began as a random occurrence and had eventually become constant, with the vehicle having stalled several times on the road. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the head gasket and one of the cylinders needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

  22. Engine and engine cooling, Oct 7, 2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle was experiencing rough starts and would overheat while driving at various speeds. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that engine cylinder #2 was misfiring and coolant was leaking into the engine block and cylinders. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who provided the same diagnostic information and informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

  23. Engine, Oct 7, 2022

Car not starting, engine light on. Took to shop, and was a #3 cylinder misfire error. Shop replaced spark plugs and topped off coolant. Over next few days noticed coolant was disappearing. No leaks. Car running rough, loosing coolant. Took to shop again, after several weeks they came back saying coolant is getting into combustion chamber. Decided to take to dealership, they said I need a new engine. Took to dealership I purchased car from and they said the same, new engine. The car only has 77,000 miles on it. Now it is essentially a paperweight. After researching problem, found out this is a known manufacturers defect (grooves in the head that trap coolant and degrade gasket). 2012 Ford ordered a do not drive notice for the exact same problem. I have wrote to Ford and asked for assistance with the repairs, as this is a manufactures defect, but have been unsuccessful.

  24. Engine, Oct 4, 2022

The vehicle started leaking coolant into the engine at just under 100k miles. I took my vehicle to Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood, California, and they want just over $10,000 to replace my engine. I've taken care of this vehicle since I purchase new and have always taken care of it. I do not have the money to replace the engine for more than the car is worth. I've spent money on replacement parts, such as, spark plug coils, spark plugs, and valve cleaning. All this seems to be associated with the coolant leaking into the cylinders. At this point, I continue to add coolant to ensure that I do not overheat the engine. I've also stopped driving the vehicle.

Car engine lost power on interstate potentially causing a serious and life-threatening accident. Upon inspection by mechanic, car is losing coolant into the engine cylinder due to design flaw in engine long block and head gasket. Only warning light was immediate and "engine overheating". Ford Motor Company has confirmed acknowledgement of this issue on 2016 to 2019 Ford Fusion and other Ford models but have not issued a recall for this problem. Car has 72K miles with no history of engine failure, overheating, etc. This problem has been reproduced by Ford dealership and inspected with camera to confirm engine coolant within cylinders. Ford also confirms that they've seen this several times and it is due to engine design flaw for ecoboost models 2016-2019.
