WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OR AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH, IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE ROAD, SUCH AS A POT HOLE, A DIP IN THE ROAD OR AN OVERPASS TRANSITION, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY UNTIL THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP OR UNDER 50 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND PICKED BACK UP THE 27TH OR DECEMBER. THE SHAKING STEERING WHEEL STARTED BACK UP AGAIN 1/10/19. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE DROPPED OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP IN TWO WEEKS WHEN A LOANER WILL BE AVAILABLE.

DRIVING ON THE 355 TOLLWAY DRIVING 76 MPH, I WENT OVER A BRIDGE THAT HAD A SLOPE (BUMP) AND THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS UNCONTROLLABLE. BEING IN THE MIDDLE LANE I HAD MANY "NEAR MISSES" OF OTHER CARS POTENTIALLY HITTING ME. I LET OFF THE GAS PEDDLE AND HAD TO PULL OVER BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPPED. BEING THE FAMILY CAR, I AM NO LONGER DRIVING IN FEAR OF AN ACCIDENT MAY OCCUR. I CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT AM HESITANT TO DRIVE THE JEEP THERE.

LOOSE STEERING, WANDERING ON THE ROAD AND DIFFICULTY STAYING IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN ON UNEVEN ROADWAYS. WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS THE VEHICLE PULLS TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER AND WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT IT THE STEERING OVER-CORRECTS AND YOU GET INTO A BACK AND FORTH WOBBLE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.

AT 1/11/19 AT 4:30PM,I WAS DRIVING N BOUND AT 35MPH. I STARTED TO DECELERATE BY LETTING OFF OF THE THROTTLE- I WAS MAKING A TURN INTO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT, WHEN THE THROTTLE WENT TO WOT BY ITSELF. LUCKILY THE CAR IS A MANUAL- SO I HAD TO PUT IT IN A HIGHER GEAR AND RELEASE THE CLUTCH WITH THE BRAKE ON TO GET IT TO STOP.

STEERING IS SLOPPY. THE VEHICLE WANDERS AND TAKES SIGNIFICANT EFFORT AND CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. TOO MUCH FREE PLAY IN THE STEERING. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED EVEN AT 30MPH.

*UPDATE* BEEN TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND GOING BACK FOR A 5TH FOR THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND "WANDERING STEERING". THEY'VE TRIED TO FIX THE WOBBLE, BY REPLACING THE STABILIZER/DAMPER WITH AN AFTER-MARKET, WHICH THEY COMPLETED, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. SIDENOTE* I OPENED UP A CASE W/ FCA AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BUT MAY HAVE BEEN DONE BECAUSE THE OEM NEW MODEL STABILIZER WAS ON BACK-ORDER. REPLACED THE AFTER-MARKET STABILIZER/DAMPER AND PUT ON ANOTHER OEM AND YET, THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS (DEATH-WOBBLE). "STEERING WANDERING" HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED. I'VE GOT ANOTHER APPT. AT ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP ON 1/14/19. WILL UPDATE AFTER MY APPT. TO SEE IF THERE'S AN IMPROVEMENT.

THEN ABOUT 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD I CAME TO A ROUNDABOUT, IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR MENTO ENTER AND EXIT THE ROUNDABOUT, AND FOR A SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN ONE MILE THE LOCKING UP OF MY STEERING WHEEL COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO WRECK AND KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. Service brakes, Jan 8, 2019, crash
"TAKATA RECALL" - WHILE COMING OFF THE INTERSTATE, I STARTED BRAKING BECAUSE VEHICLES WERE STOPPED AT THE TOP OF THE EXIT RAMP TO TURN ONTO THE OVERPASS (HIGHWAY). THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. ON THREE SEPARATE TIMES THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION PROPER. THEY WOULD NOT GRIP. FELT LIGHT HYDRO-PLAINING OR LIKE THEY WOULD NOT LOCK. THE VEHICLE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH DISTANCE TO STOP AND I WAS BRAKING BEFORE I LEFT THE INTERSTATE. ON THE THIRD TRY, THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. MY SON WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND KEPT ASKING WHY WE WERE NOT SLOWING DOWN AND STOPPING. THE VEHICLE DID SLOW DOWN, BUT NOT ENOUGH OR IN ENOUGH TIME. *DT*JB

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN THE JEEP HITS A SLIGHT BUMP OR BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END WOBBLE EXCESSIVELY. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. ON TWO OF THE OCCASIONS I NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN TO 40 MPH FOR THE WOBBLE TO STOP. THIS IS AN 2018 JEEP WRANGLER WITH NO MODIFICATIONS. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED THE JEEP HAD AROUND 1500 MILES ON IT. IT CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER. I HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS THAT THIS DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, IT ONLY MASKS THE TRUE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD THE JEEP ON THE HIGHWAY SINCE THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE FOUND WITH THE JEEP IS A SLIGHT SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT SPEEDS AROUND 70 MPH. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HIT A BUMP FOR THIS TO OCCUR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. PLEASE FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL ESTES CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 745 E 56TH ST, BROWNSBURG, IN 46112, (317) 620-5175) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRACK BAR OR SWAY BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE HAS "DEATH WOBBLE" AS IT HAS BEEN CALLED. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HITTING A BUMP, BRIDGE JOINT, OR IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT END VIOLENTLY SHAKES. IF LOOSEN GRIP ON WHEEL IT GETS WORSE. IT WILL CONTINUE FOR MILES SHAKING THE VEHICLE EXCESSIVELY. ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SHAKING IS TO SLOW TO ABOUT 50 MPH. STARTED AT ABOUT 12, 400 MILES. TOOK TO SHOP AND THEIR GUY CALLED IT DEATH WOBBLE.THE MORE YOU DRIVE THE WORSE IT GETS, AND IN NOV ABOUT 14TH OR SO THEY HAD ME COME IN AND PUT A AFTERMARKET HD STEERING STABILIZER ON IT.IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 1500 MILES THEN THE WOBBLE RETURNED.I REPORTED IT AND ON THE 17TH DEC THEY HAD ME COME IN AND PUT FACTORY STABILIZER BAR ON AND TOED IN MY FRONT ALIGNMENT. THAT WORKED FOR TWO DAYS. WOBBLE CAME BACK AND I REPORTED IT. THE MORE I DRIVE THE WORSE IT GETS. I WENT TO SHOP ON 31 DEC TO SEE WHAT WE ARE DOING. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. PROBLEM IS NOT STABILIZERS AND TOE ALIGNMENT. GEOMETRIC AND SOMETHING IS WEARING OUT CAUSING ALL THIS.THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STABILIZERS ARE LASTING LESS EACH TIME. BAND AID FOR THE BIGGER ISSUE.I HAVE OWNED 18 JEEPS AND HAVE 4 CURRENTLY, ALL WRANGLER/TJ/CJ. NONE HAVE DONE THIS OR DO THIS.MODIFIED OR NOT. AND THIS NEW 2018 JL IS STOCK.

I TOOK IT TO NAPLETON JEEP AND AS I WAS EXPLAINING THE SITUATION SHE STOPPED AND SAID IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE MEANING I NEEDED TO CLEAN OUT THE CAR AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. SHE SAID THEY HAD A JEEP THERE FOR OVER 25 DAYS AND SHE DID NOT KNOW WHEN I WOULD BE GETTING IT BACK. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME IT IS A STEERING WHEEL DAMPER. OVER RATED SHOCK.
