Recalls and investigations

  1. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalFeb 12, 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.

Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 27, 2026.

  3. Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 28, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

  5. Seat belts, critical fastenersMay 25, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The fastener in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points may not have been tightened properly and can loosen over time.

A loose rear seat belt anchor fastener may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolts. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the bolt size and torque value required for any future seat belt repair. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The driver's powered seat may not be fully secured to the seat frame, causing the seat frame welds to detach from the rear inboard seat bracket.

An unsecured seat with broken welds may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect the driver's seat rail clearance, and if necessary, replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 10, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC966, PC967.

  4. Engine, Aug 21, 2025

Nissan issued the recall on my vehicle. I took it into the dealership to be inspected. Was informed my car was one that needed to be fixed because of metal fragments on the dipstick in the oil. Was told Nissan had no remedy for the situation yet and had no idea when it would be available to be fixed. So I am expected to continue to drive a car that could stop working while driving and potentially cause a crash. It is absolutely unacceptable for them not to have a remedy for the situation or even know when they will.

Subject: Failure of Nissan to Remedy Safety Issue Similar to Existing Recall – Nissan Rogue Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this complaint regarding Nissan North America’s refusal to address a serious mechanical issue on my Nissan Rogue that is substantially similar to an existing recall. Despite the fact that my vehicle is experiencing the same symptoms and failures described in NHTSA Campaign, Nissan has declined to perform the necessary repair under the recall. Details: Vehicle: 2023 nissan rouge Mileage: 62750 Recall reference: Description of issue: My Rogue has exhibited loss of power which is identical to the condition Nissan has acknowledged in the recall. Nissan’s response: When I contacted my dealer and Nissan consumer affairs, they advised that my VIN is not included in the recall, even though the failure is the same as those vehicles covered. Safety concern: This issue poses a significant safety risk, as it stalling at high speed, inability to accelerate, the complete engine failure. The refusal to cover this repair leaves me with an unsafe vehicle and an undue financial burden, even though Nissan is aware of the defect. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate Nissan’s handling of this matter and consider expanding the scope of the recall to include vehicles like mine that are experiencing the same hazardous defect. Thank you for your attention to this urgent safety matter. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving, I suddenly saw the message "WARNING! MALFUNCTION. Refer to owner’s manual" display on my dashboard, which caused a loss of power and made it difficult to accelerate. I had to turn off the car in the middle of the highway, and it was frightening to think what could happen if this occurred on the expressway.

  11. Vehicle speed control, Other or unspecified, Engine, Aug 10, 2025

My 2023 Nissan Rogue with less than 38,000 miles is experiencing severe engine failure. This has happened multiple times (more than 30 times) on the highway and in the city. When I am in slow-moving traffic or stop at a red light, the engine appears to rev and a warning light comes up "Engine Malfunction. Power reduce. Service now." Then the speed reduced, and no matter how hard I stepped on the gas pedal, the speed would not go past 8 miles per hour. I had to turn on the hazard lights to warn motorists behind me. To get the car to function, I turned off the engine, let it cool for a few minutes, and turned it on again. This issue has been going on for months. I took it to the Nissan dealership, and they could not find the problem. I am afraid of driving in slow traffic and of stopping at the traffic light. Please, somebody, needs to pass this on to Nissan so they can fix this problem? From online discussions, this appears to be an ongoing problem with many 2023 Nissan Rogues.

Since last November 2024 I have been trying to see what is wrong with my car. Previously I took it to Nissan for a thoroughly check just for them to tell me I went over my miles and they wasn’t able to fix my car with my warranty. I have taken my car to 3 different places where they all tell me different things are wrong but that is not the problem. The noise has been coming from my engine sounding like something is going to break on my car. The more I push down on the accelerator the more worst the noise get. I am tired of driving this car like this and I don’t know how to fix it. If I have to I will be getting my lawyer involved for negligence.

  15. Engine, Jul 30, 2025

In April of this year my 2023 Nissan Rogue complete shut down while on the highway. Received a warning notification “Engine Malfunction Power Reduced Service Now”. The car would not drive over 10 miles per hour. The dealer claimed it was our error; stating we had hit a curb so not under warranty. We had not. We were charged approx $200 to fix. Now today, July, we have received the same warning and again it shut down. Had to have it towed to the dealer. They are saying it’s probably a sensor like last time. I asked about the current engine recall and was told they don’t have a fix and this would not cause these issues. These issues are a serious safety issue to just stop the car on the highway while diving!

I own a 2023 Nissan Rogue 4D 4Wd SI. The air conditioner went out. Took it to the shop and was told the coolant was low. No vehicle warning indicated. Made appointment with Nissan was advised the water pump malfunctioned. Internet inquiries resulted in multiple owners of this vehicle reporting catastrophic engine failures as a result of water pump failure. Some failures occurred suddenly with no warning lights from the vehicle. I contacted Nissan was advised no TSB’s at this time no recalls on this vehicle. Further advised they would inquire if the service tech will perform checks on the engine oil for metal debris and if they are checking the head gaskets for failure and warped heads. Very concerned this vehicle will fail and we will suffer a financial hardship. Nissan is aware of the issues reportedly involving 443,000 vehicles.

Subject: Engine Recall (KR15) Ignored – Engine Noise Ongoing + Misleading Tailgate Lock Repair Offer – Lost Trust in Dealership I bought my 2023 Nissan Rogue brand new from this dealership two years ago. Recently, I’ve experienced multiple issues with both the car and the service, leading to frustration and loss of trust. ⸻ 1. Engine Recall Ignored – Still Making Noise I went in for a recall service months ago. The service advisor (named Well) only replaced a hose and said everything else was fine, even though I told them about a knocking noise from the engine. Now, the KR15 engine bearing recall has been issued, and the noise is still happening. The dealer continues to dismiss it, but I am seriously concerned about potential engine damage or failure. I am requesting a full, proper inspection and repair under this recall. ⸻ 2. Tailgate Lock – Misleading Advice and Pressure to Pay Around 3 months ago, I visited the dealer because my tailgate lock wasn’t opening, after I had broken the tailgate glass myself earlier. They told me: “Your lock is working fine. There’s just broken glass inside — once we vacuum it, everything will be okay.” But the next day, another employee told me: “No, your lock is actually broken. You need a full lock replacement for $893.65.” This surprised me because they had just told me the lock was fine. After I expressed concern, they negotiated the price down to $500 flat. Due to financial difficulty, I couldn’t proceed at the time. I’m attaching the invoice they gave me for proof. This change in opinion and pressure to pay left me confused and feeling misled. It added stress, and I now feel I cannot fully trust the dealership’s service recommendations. ⸻ 3. What I Am Requesting: 1.A proper inspection and repair of the KR15 engine bearing issue and engine noise under the recall. 2.A review of the tailgate lock experience and explanation for the inconsistent service advice and price negotiation. 3.Clear communicatio

I bought my daughter a new 2023 Rogue SL in June-2023 at our local Nissan dealership in Concord, CA. On [XXX] the car's engine completely cut-out on [XXX] on a trip to L.A. Fortunately, my daughter was able to coast to the far lane and call AAA for a tow to the Valencia dealership. There the service rep told her that two other Rouges had also been towed off the Grapevine that day. They kept the car for a couple days and replaced the engine oil temp sensor which got her back home. On [XXX] the engine again completely cut-out while my daughter was crossing [XXX] on her way to work. More fortunate than the [XXX] incident, my daughter was able to coast off the bridge via an offramp in [XXX]. Once again AAA came to the rescue towing the car to the Concord dealership where it now sits for evaluation. The service department told me that they need to bring in a high-level mechanic to go through not only this engine but several other Nissan and Infiniti engines. Needless to say, both of these instances placed my daughter in extreme danger and for the grace of God she came through without injury. 19. Engine, Jul 21, 2025

More than an incident, I’m concerned it might turn into one. For the past few days, I’ve noticed something unusual (nothing serious for now) with the engine/transmission. When I shift to Drive, the engine seems to jerk a bit or takes a moment to engage the gear. There’s a slight delay, but it doesn’t feel normal. I’m worried because a friend who owns a Rogue had a similar issue, his car wouldn’t start, he took it to the shop, and they told him the engine needed to be replaced. My fear is that this might be the same issue and that it’s related to this recall. I just spoke to Nissan America, and they told me there’s still no solution and that I should call back between August 15 and 18 to check for updates. That seems like a long time for something that could potentially be serious.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and decelerated to 2 MPH. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the axle seals were leaking, and that the Lane Departure system had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred two days later, nearly causing the vehicle to crash with another vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V438000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

when getting an oil change. I was told buy the technician the oil pan bolt is defective due to a screw being stripped. This has been a known issue with the Nissan Rogue. Many complaints have been listed online with this particular issue. I was told by the technician the oils pan is made of hard plastic and is a common problem

  25. Engine, Jul 11, 2025

On the morning of 6/18/2025 approximately at 545 am central time my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV lost complete power on Interstate 59 South in Alabama near Gadsden just past the one lane construction zone. No warning lights or check engine lights just had sudden engine noise and seen my rpm’s were holding at 3000 and not accelerating anymore. The noise stopped when the car went into limp mode. I was able to pull over onto shoulder and turned off vehicle. There were no visible leaks or signs of overheating. So called a tow truck to take me to nearest Nissan dealership. After several attempts of trying to crank my engine technicians discover a blown head gasket. Also note since owning vehicle there has been issues with engine misfiring and a spark plug blowing on cylinder 3 around 20k miles.
