Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.
If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

Air bags, frontal, passenger side, inflator moduleNov 1, 2018
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and 2010-2012 Lincoln MKZ vehicles that previously received a replacement passenger air bag under recall 16V-384, 17V-024 or 18V-046. In the event of a crash requiring deployment of the passenger air bag, the bracket that secures the air bag inflator to the module housing may deform, allowing the gas that inflates the air bag to leak out.
If the air bag does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S34.

Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.
The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

EquipmentMay 29, 2014
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR BECAME HARD TO STEER. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON IT WAS FINE AND I WENT ON HOME. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THERE WAS A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER. THEY SAID THE STEERING GEAR WAS GOING OUT AND WOULD COST $1600 TO REPAIR. SINCE MY 2010 FORD FUSION HAD ONLY 43000 MILES ON IT, I CALLED FORD. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. *TR

PARKING BRAKE HANDLE WOULD NOT RELEASE BRAKES AND WAS TOTALLY LOOSE. BRAKES WERE LOCKED UP, BUT AFTER GOING IN REVERSE IT FINALLY RELEASED. SINCE THEN IF WEATHER IS BELOW FREEZING BRAKE LEVER CANNOT BE MOVED AT ALL. IF WEATHER IS ABOVE FREEZING IT SEEMS TO WORK BUT WE ARE AFRAID TO USE IT FOR FEAR OF LOCKING UP. SOME OWNER INPUT WAS FOUND ON INTERNET SAYING THAT THE CABLE BOOTS WERE POSSIBLY WORN AND WATER GETS INTO THE MECHANISM AND PREVENTS LEVER FROM OPERATING. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON FORD FUSION PROBLEM THIS TIME OF YEAR. CONTACTED FORD AND THEY HAD NO INPUT ON PROBLEM. I WILL HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AS THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPT. IS A THIEF. IN MEANTIME I CANNOT USE THE PARKING BRAKE. WARRANTY IS OVER BUT I THINK FORD SHOULD ATTEND TO THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS CLEARLY A DANGEROUS DEFECT. *TR

WE LEFT OUR HOME IN NORTH FORT MYERS, FL, FRIDAY MORNING AND TRAVELED NORTH ON ROUTE 75. AROUND MILE MARKER 217, AND DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. WE COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER SEVERAL ON-OFF ATTEMPTS WE LIMPED OFF THE HIGHWAY VIA THE EXIT AND INTO THE TIRE CHOICE CAR CARE SHOP IN BRADENTON, FL. THEIR COMPUTER DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY MOTOR ASSEMBLY, WHICH THEY REPLACED ALONG WITH THE THROTTLE BODY SWITCH. DRIVING IN FAR LEFT LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE CAR HAD BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER SITTING IN PARKING LOT ALL DAY. IT WAS 96 DEGREES. CAR STARTED TO VIBRATE AND SLOW DOWN. I NOTICED THAT THE TOOL LIGHT WAS ON. OBVIOUSLY I HAD ENTERED INTO LIMP MODE AND FOUND A WAY TO CROSS FOUR LANES OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TO MAKE IT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. ONCE STOPPED ENGINE LOPED ERRATICALLY AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ENGINE WAS NON-RESPONSIVE TO PEDAL CHANGES. PUT CAR IN PARK AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I WAITED 30 SECONDS AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND DROVE HOME (26 MILES) WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED SURGING IN THE ENGINE THIS PAST WEEK. SYMPTOMS POINT TO THE THROTTLE BODY; BUT THIS IS SPECULATION AS I HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED BY A PROFESSIONAL. I AM AWARE THAT THERE IS A CURRENT INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER. THIS EVENT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. DRIVING CAN BE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND PARTS DO BREAK; BUT, THE FACT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR QUITE SOME TIME WARRANTS AN ADDITIONAL REPORT.
