Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, manual transmissionJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Focus and 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

  3. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. 4. Service brakes, hydraulic, pedals and linkagesJan 13, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 Mustang vehicles originally sold or ever registered, in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Hawaii. Exposure to certain environmental conditions, such as high temperatures, high humidity, and salt air can cause the brake pedal bumper to corrode and separate from the brake pedal.

A separated brake pedal bumper can cause the brake lights to illuminate continuously, causing confusion to other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. On automatic transmission vehicles, a missing brake pedal bumper can allow the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the brake pedal bumpers and clutch pedal bumpers, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on March 4, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 13, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S02.

We towed the vehicle to a Ford dealer where it took 5 weeks for them to determine the problem and fix. The dealer said it required a new wiring harness and charged approx $550. It is very disturbing that a wiring harness failure (electrical) should cause a complete loss of braking control — something that should have mechanical backup safety mechanisms.

  13. Service brakes, Aug 12, 2022

The front passenger side brake hose failed without warning. When I stepped on the brake the pedal went down to the floor. The fluid was leaking out, but was able to make it home. I informed the dealer, but they indicated there was no recall in place. I had the hose replaced. About 6 months later the Front Driver side brake hose failed in the same way. Again the brake pedal went down to the floor and was able to make it home. Again looked for any recall notice and found none. I had the hose replaced.

  14. Service brakes, Aug 12, 2022

Brake hose ruptured. It was confirmed and already replaced by an independent service center so it is not available for inspection. My safety and others’ safety was put at risk with the inability to stop the vehicle in motion as expected. There were no warning messages/lamps/symptoms prior to failure or after failure.

  15. Power train, Aug 11, 2022

*Car shifts hard when transitioning into second gear. *The hard shift causes a bit of whip lash *No *No *No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. This has been ongoing issue for the last year. Other Ford Fusion owners have expressed the same issue with their vehicles. *A transmission flush was done at 140k miles

  16. Steering, Electrical system, Aug 10, 2022

I was driving down the highway when My car suddenly popped up a “hill start assist not available” “service AdvanceTrac” and “Steering loss stop safely” as my car completely lost all steering while merging almost causing me to wreck.

  17. Engine, Aug 10, 2022

Coolant is leaking into the engine causing the engine to fail. The engine is going to have to be replaced. This is a known problem in the 2013 to 2019 Ford Fusions. Ford refuses to he'll with the issue.

  18. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Aug 8, 2022

My car has a recall and there is. It a fix for is yet and the dealer won’t give me a rental until I get it fixed and I’m out of a car basically because it’s unsafe to drive

  19. Steering, Aug 5, 2022

The power steering failed on my 2014 Ford Fusion. As I was driving I received a system alert and pulled over within a mile - the power steering was still functioning at this time. I pulled into a parking lot and turned the car off. When I restarted the car there were multiple similar alerts and the power steering was not functioning and the steering was locked up - almost impossible to move. Even the tow truck driver commented on how he was unable to budge it. I am lucky that I was able to pull over and park my car before the power steering failed. I had to get it towed to a local repair shop and they confirmed that the problem was corrosion in the fasteners or bolts of the electric power steering motor that caused the power steering motor to become dislodged. They informed me that there was a service bulletin out for this particular issue on Ford Fusions and to try to contact Ford about it. There is a recall for 2014 Ford Fusions regarding this issue but my VIN did not fall in the recall so Ford will not help with it. The repair shop was unable to do anything so I now have to have the car towed another 30 miles to a Ford dealership. The repair shop also told me as they were looking into it that the part alone would have cost $1200 and there will be additional programming needed.

  20. Fuel system, Gasoline, Aug 3, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle made an abnormal noise while starting. The contact was concerned that he had carbon monoxide poisoning related to a faulty canister purge valve. However, no medical attention was received. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 129,800.

  21. Wheels, Aug 3, 2022

I took my Ford Fusion in for its 50000 mile maintenance. The tech was unable to remove the lug nuts because they were swollen due to the poor design by Ford. I had to replace all 20 lug nuts at a cost of $200. If I did not replace them I would be unable to change a flat tire if I were to have one.

  22. Steering, Aug 2, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH and pulling out of a parking lot, an audible alarm in the vehicle activated. The contact stated that the vehicle then lost power steering functionality. The contact towed the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the failure was related to high friction within the power steering. The bolts that held the module to the rack had severe rust. The contact was informed that the power steering needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the repair was not covered under a service bulletin or a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

  23. Engine, Jul 29, 2022

The engine would not product power from stop to driving speed. This became evident when we were trying to accelerate to make a left turn through oncoming traffic. We were almost in an accident as the car / engine would not accelerate under partial or wide open throttle. I had my wife, child, and a child's friend in the vehicle at the time this issue first occurred. The Vehicle is currently in my position in front of my house. It is available for inspection if needed. The vehicle was inspected and was shown to have no compression in cylinder #2. This was causing a misfire in cylinder #2. This was causing the loss of power. There were no indicators prior to the loss of power. This vehicle was in the same shop a month and half prior to replace a water pump and belt.

  24. Steering, Jul 29, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the power steering assist warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver while attempting to change lanes. The contact pulled over safely to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence; then driven by a family member to the local dealer. The dealer diagnosed a failure with the electric steering gear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number 19V632000 (Steering). The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

  25. Power train, Service brakes, Jul 25, 2022

It literally does what the recall says and mine isn’t covered? It jumps between second gear. The brakes do not automatically start working for like 5 seconds after starting it, you feel like you will go out into the road because it will not stop. Hill assist light is Constantly coming on which triggers abs brakes light and service light to come on and looks like a damn Christmas tree because the dash has so many lights on at night. You guys say it isn’t under these recalls?
