Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. CAR HAS BROKEN DOWN 3 TIMES AND HAS ONLY 38000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR A MONTH BECAUSE FORD CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. FIRST TIME IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH THEY REPLACED. SECOND TIME THEY TRIED TO SAY THAT THE PART WAS BAD SO THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN. IT IS AGAIN IN THE SHOP UNDERGOING DIAGNOSIS. IT HAS COMPLETELY STOPPED/LOST ACCELERATION AND TURNED OFF COMPLETELY THREE SEPARATE TIMES ALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS IS NOT ADDRESSING THE SITUATION AT ALL. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED SO PEOPLE AREN'T KILLED. REPAIR DOCUMENTATION IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. DATES OF BREAKDOWNS ARE 6/3/18, 6/10/18 AND 7/2/18.

I PURCHASED 2 FEDERAL FORMOSA FD2 TIRES 235/50R17 96W. THEY WERE INSTALLED IN THE REAR OF MY CAR. THEY WERE BALANCED, AND INFLATED TO AUTO MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A HWY OR FWY ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE CAR STABILITY CONTROL SENSOR TRIGGERS. THE CAR'S REAR WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH AND FEELS VERY INSECURE. DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THE SIDEWALLS ARE TOO WEAK CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO WOBBLE. SINCE I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN MY CAR, I FEEL VERY CONCERNED THAT THE TIRE MAY COME OFF THE RIM OR EXPLODE DUE TO THIS CONDITION. WHO CAN I TAKE THESE TIRES TO SO THEY CAN BE RATED OR INSPECTED?

ENGINE LOSES ENGINE POWER WHEN DRIVING. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOES NOTHING. MUST COAST OR BRAKE UNTIL THE CAR STOPS. POWER STEERING, BRAKING, AND CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEMS REMAIN FUNCTIONAL; RADIO REMAINS ON; TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. 'TRANS NOT IN PARK' MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE DISPLAY. EVENT HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AND SET DURING AT LEAST TWO TIMES OUT OF THE THREE EVENTS. CAR MAY BE RESTARTED AFTER COMING TO A STOP, SHIFTING INTO PARK AND TURNING KEY TO OFF. APPEARS TO 'RESET' TO WORK CORRECTLY UNTIL THE NEXT UNEXPECTED EVENT OCCURS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. CHIME OCCURS AFTER THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE CAR DOES NOT SHAKE DURING OR BEFORE EVENT. HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY HARSH OR DELAYED SHIFTING WHEN STARTING FROM STOP OR AFTER SLOWING AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THREE IDENTICAL INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED SINCE DRIVING THIS CAR. IN ONE OF THE THREE INSTANCES, THE KEY WAS BUMPED WITH A KNEE. PRESENT MILAGE IS ABOUT 48000. CAR WAS OBTAINED IN 12/2016. LOCAL FORD DEALER STATES THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR SERVICES OUTSTANDING FOR THIS VEHICLE; DID NOT KNOW OF ANY REPORTED PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. ON MAY 15, 2018 WES MYERS AT BOB SIGHT FORD IN LEE'S SUMMIT, MISSOURI CHECKED TWO OTHER FUSIONS AND NOTED THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM WILL OCCUR IF THE KEY IS BARELY ROTATED BACK - NOT SO MUCH AS TO THINK IT SHOULD TURN OFF THE ENGINE. AS SUCH, HE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING 'WRONG' SINCE OTHER VEHICLES EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM; REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH ANOTHER THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WOULD NOT PROVIDE A FIX. ALSO STATED THAT UNLESS THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, THAT FORD WOULD NOT TAKE ANY ACTION. THE VEHICLE LEASING COMPANY (ENTERPRISE) HAS NOT ISSUED ANY NOTICES STATING THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. NHTSA 9/19/2016, BLACKLICK, OH, IS SIMILAR ISSUE.

THE 12-VOLT BATTERY ON THE ENERGI MODEL WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. REPEATED JUMP STARTS ARE REQUIRED. DESPITE BEING UNDER WARRANTY, 2 FORD DEALERS CLAIMED THEY DON'T KNOW THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. NO WONDER FORD DROPPED THIS MODEL. IT IS A DISASTER THAT FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON A CITY STREET MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, AND MY SON WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. MY HUSBAND GOT WARM, AND PUSHED THE AUTOMATIC BUTTON TO ROLL DOWN HIS WINDOW. I INSTANTLY THOUGHT THIS WAS ODD SINCE I ALWAYS KEEP THE WINDOW'S LOCKED SO THAT MY SON CAN NOT PLAY WITH THE WINDOWS. I CHECKED, AND FOUND THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON INDICATING THAT THE LOCK WAS ACTIVE. I THEN PULLED OVER, AND ROLLED UP HIS WINDOW, UNLOCKED THE WINDOW, RE-LOCKED IT, AND HAD HIM DO IT AGAIN. WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING I HAD THE THOUGHT TO CHECK THE DOOR LOCKS AS WELL. HE WAS ALSO ABLE TO OPEN HIS DOOR AFTER PRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON!

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY CITY ROAD WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD IN THE BACKSEAT. THEY THEN OPENED THE DOOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS SCARED ME AS MY CAR IS SET TO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY WHILE DRIVING. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER, SHUT THE DOOR, GOT IN, AND RE-LOCKED THE DOOR. ONCE THE DOOR WAS RE-LOCKED I CLIMBED INTO THE BACKSEAT WITH THE CAR STILL RUNNING AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN. I THEN EXITED THE OPEN DOOR, AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE "LOCKED" DRIVERS DOOR, AND GET BACK IN. I THEN LOCKED THE DOORS AGAIN, AND TRIED OPENING THE DRIVERS DOOR, AND IT OPENED. I SHUT MY CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON, LOCKED MY DOORS, TRIED OPENING THE DOOR, AND IT WAS LOCKED. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR MY CHILD! I HAVE READ OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, AND THOUGHT THAT THIS SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED WITH NHTSA.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER (FIESTA FORD, 78990 VARNER RD, INDIO, CA 92203, (760) 772-8000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE FRACTURED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,169.

THIS CAR IS THE SECOND FUSION HYBRID I HAVE. THE 2015 AND 2016 HYBRID TITANIUM HAD THE SAME ISSUES. I CHANGED ONE FOR THE OTHER IN HOPE THE PROBLEM WOULD BE GONE. ALMOST EVERYTIME I DRIVE IN LOW SPEEDS, CIRCA 15MPH UP TO 30MPH ON UNLEVELED PAVEMENT WITH SETTS THE FOLLOWING LIGHTS TURN ON: ADVANCE TRAC, ABS, HILL ASSISTANT CONTROL. WHILST THOSE LIGHTS ARE ON, NONE OF THOSE FUNCTIONS WORKS. AS IT HAPPENED IN 2015 AND STILL HAPPENS IN MY 2016. IVE COMPLAINT TO FORD, BUT THEY NEVER GAVE ME A SOLUTION. I BELIEVE IT IS SOFTWARE PROBLEMS IN ABS MODULE. BUT NO UP TO DATE CALIBRATION FILES HAVE RESOLVED THIS ISSUE. IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, SO I WILL INPUT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WITH THE OLDER CAR (2015). I KNOW THAT NHTSA HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH 2009 TO 2011 FUSIONS. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE CLOSURE OF THOSE CASES NEITHER WHETHER THERE IS ANY OTHER INVESTIGATION GOING ON. I LIVE IN BRAZIL, BUT HERE, THE GOVERNMENT AND FORD DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS AS USA CARES. SO I HOPE THAT AN INVESTIGATION IN USA COULD OBLIGE FORD OF BRAZIL MAKE THE REPAIRS TO FUSIONS SOLD HERE AS WELL. I WILL INPUT AN ADDRESS OF RELATIVES WHO LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO. 2016 FORD FUSION WITH: 99D 1.5 L ECOBOOST ENGINE, 44W 6 SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSION. ENGINE HAS LOST POWER 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING WITHIN A PERIOD OF 10 DAYS. ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND REMAINS IN "LIMP" MODE UNTIL THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. NO ENGINE LIGHTS DISPLAYED. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WITHOUT FINDING ANY PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE WITHOUT A FAULT CODE. THE NEXT TIME LOSS OF POWER HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LEAVE THE CAR SO THEY COULD KEEP THE CAR AND DRIVE IT HOPING TO GET IT TO LOSE POWER. THEY KEPT THE CAR AND DROVE IT A TOTAL OF ALMOST 100 MILES OVER 3 DAYS WITHOUT IT LOSING POWER. DEALER STILL REUSES TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM AND GETTING A FAULT CODE. CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I BARELY MADE IT TO SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAY FULL OF CARS. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T DRIVE. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT DROVE FINE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND REALIZED THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO OWN 2016 FUSIONS AND YET THERE IS NO RECALL. I AM TERRIFIED OF DRIVING IT. IT SEEMS TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS COMPLETE REPLACEMENT BUT AT EXPENSE OF THE OWNER DESPITE THOUSANDS OF CASES. HOW CAN THIS BE? PLEASE ADVISE.

WE'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SWISHING MOVEMENT OF THE THE GAS IN THE GAS TANK WHEN BRAKING, GOING OVER A RUGGED SURFACE & GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS OR POTHOLES. SOME TIMES THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS FROM INSIDE THE CAR TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAVE TO PUT THE WINDOWS DOWN. WE'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO 2 SEPARATE FORD SERVICES & NEITHER HAS BEEN ABLE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SOUND IS COMING FROM OUR REAR BRAKES TO BEING TOLD THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN CONSTANT STILL SO THERE'S NO WAY COULD IT BE CAUSED BY THOSE. WE'VE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ISSUE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES AT THE 1ST LOCATION AND ONCE AT THE 2ND LOCATION, WE'VE WENT ON TEST DRIVES & ALL THE TECHNICIANS HAVE HEARD & FELT THE NOISE, BUT BOTH LOCATION SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT & WHENEVER I'LL PICK THE CAR BACK UP THEY'LL SAY THAT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUES. OUR MILES HAS NOW BEEN GOING DOWN WAY FASTER THAN USUAL AS WELL & OUR AVERAGE MPG HAS BEEN DROPPING SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE THIS FIRST STARTED TO OCCUR. WE ALSO HAVE BEEN NEEDING TO FILL UP THE TANK ABOUT 3-4 TIME A WEEK NOW COMPARED TO JUST ONCE BECAUSE THE GAS JUST HAS BEEN DROPPING SO FAST & INACCURATE READINGS ON THE MILES WE'VE DRIVEN. THE SWISHING AROUND CAN BE HEARD VERY LOUDLY & FELT MORE IN NIGHT TIME DRIVING & ESPECIALLY WHEN BRAKING IN TRAFFIC & APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. THERE ARE TIMES AFTER PARKING, SHUTTING OFF IGNITION & EXITING THE CAR THAT THERE'S SMELL OF GAS HEAVY TO THE REAR OF THE CAR & I'VE ALSO OBSERVED THE SMELL COMING FROM THE OPENINGS OF THE REAR WHEELS. I'M AFRAID IN THE EVENT OF A REAR/SIDE COLLISION THAT THE CHANCE OF AN EXPLOSION IS MUCH HIGHER. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2017 & ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS TOLD A FORD SERVICE PERSON ABOUT IT TO NO AVAIL. I'VE CALLED FORD TO COMPLAIN IN DEC & FEB & ONLY SAID TO TAKE ELSEWHERE.
