Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.
Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. We first had breakdown on 6/8/2026 and had towed at our expense due to engine recall, they broke egr valve connector while replaceing engine. They replaced new egr terminal kit at this time. Got car back 6/29/2026. On 6/30 started having loud noises and engine shaking brought car in morning of 7/1 they took for test drive the noise wasnt present but the shaking was was told possible trnasmission mount was broken and they would contact me back with no word until car broke down again 7/30 was told to try to drive it to dealer car wouldnt go faster then 5-10mph. Got the car there was told egr valve needed replaced but wasnt covered we had to pay out pocket. Put in complaint with dealer and then consumer affairs that this had to do with original engine failure also they broke parts egr system and have had issues ever since. EGR valve and connectors and kit have been replaced several times since 6/8/2026 which I have all service information and I also opened a claim in the beginning and they did not help me or want any of the info I have and have broken down several times. The car has been returned 6 times but only kept 5 times and repaired this will be the fifth time being repaired for same EGR issues since engine was replaced. And they refused to give me my money back for one tow we paid for 6/8 and we argued that we arent responsible for the EGR valve they replaced since this has to do with engine recall and them breaking sone parts they broke with install. This has caused serious safety issues as everytime the care breaks down we are on hwy going at speed and car turns off and engine malfunction light turns on everytime.

When going over a smooth surface the AWD would trigger the right rear brake and cause the caliper to hang. Over time I started getting warning indicators on the dash that appeared to result in the EPB being reset. When taking the car in, it was identified that there was uneven brake wear, the outboard right rear shoe was at 1mm whereas the inboard right rear shoe was still at 8mm. It was determined that the caliper was hanging by the shop.

I was driving at soscol Ave Napa 94558 CA when engine warning came out and vehicle power reduced to less than 40MPH on 55mph road. Component failure was engine. My safety and others may or may not be at risk but the road was 55mph and the vehicle went on LIMP mode. Problems were raised to Napa Nissan Dealership @1:50pm on 09/21/2026 however similar problems are reported with the same vehicle nationwide. Vehicle still in dealership possession and conducting their own inspection as of this writing. Warning lights and messages appears while driving around 6:30AM Napa California Engine malfunction and I think it went to limp mode it’s having a hard time going 30-40MPH. I was on the way to work when it happened this morning around 6:30am @ 50,394 mls the engine malfunction error went off, and the engine sounds were different than usual and power was reduced. Also the driver seats feels not sturdy and squeaking a lot when driving. I have video documenting it and how it’s sounds like.

While on the freeway my 2023 Nissan Rogue all of a sudden would not accelerate. I was able slowly get it to accelerate from 3 mph to 25 mph, I drove it a mile, turned it off and when I turned it back on, it wouldn't start and there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. I towed my car to the Nissan dealership, they kept it for 40 days and told me they had to replace the engine. A month after I got it back, it stopped accelerating again on the freeway. A year later the transmission failed and had to be replaced.

While driving on a major public highway, the vehicle suffered a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive propulsion, dropping immediately into a dangerous transmission limp mode. The dashboard displayed a critical error message stating 'Service CVT Power Reduced' alongside a Check Engine Light. The vehicle became an immediate stationary traffic hazard in a live highway lane, completely unable to accelerate or move safely out of the way of oncoming high-speed traffic. The hazard was severe enough to require an emergency safety response from the Gwinnett County Police Department (Case #PD262540884) to secure the scene and protect the disabled vehicle until a flatbed tow truck could remove it. A subsequent diagnostic scan by a certified corporate dealer (Premier Nissan) confirmed complete internal transaxle failure, throwing diagnostic trouble codes P0741-00 (Torque Converter), P0746-00, and P187E-09.

On XXX, my 2023 Nissan Rogue suffered a total structural failure of the factory plastic engine oil pan. During a routine maintenance check, the internal pressed-in brass threaded insert completely separated from the composite plastic casing and began spinning freely. This design failure made it impossible to safely remove, secure, or torque the oil drain plug to factory specifications. Nissan has documented this exact engineering defect in Technical Service Bulletin TSB NTB22-003. The failure occurs under normal operating force due to an inadequate layer of composite material holding the metal insert in place. The repair facility ([XXX]) officially certified on the repair invoice that this failure was caused entirely by a "factory design flaw," completely ruling out technician error or external road damage. I was forced to pay $778.25 out of pocket to replace the failed factory assembly to ensure the vehicle was safe to operate. Whilst driving my 2023 Rogue the AWD light came on with a warning MALFUNCTION see owner’s manual and the check engine light came on. The start/stop/ idle feature turned off at the same time.. I was not able to stop so I reduced my speed from 55 to 40 and proceeded to finish the drive an additional 12 miles. I parked the vehicle and called for an appt at Nissan. I took the car in for service and when I got there I showed them the pic of what the dashboard was reading. I later received a text that no warning lights came on when the service tech attempted to drive it to make his report. I was recommended to pick up the vehicle and if it happened again to return. I cannot and will not drive this vehicle. I have only been driving the car for 7 months and this is the second issue I have had with it. I do not feel safe or comfortable driving it.

On 6/22/2026, my vehicle was towed due to loss of power, excessive oil consumption, and excessive vibration, and unable to start. These issues have been ongoing since October 2025. Nissan dealership informed me that I needed a new throttle body and an oil change. Against my better judgement, I paid $1374.02 to replace the part. Two weeks later, My engine started making knocking noises, excessive vibration and completely shut down. Subsequently, I discovered that there is a recall for my vehicle directly related to engine oil bearing failure(NHTSA 26V080, AND Throttle body(NHTSA 26V081). This is an unresolved recall issue and this is both frustrating and disturbing because the manufacture is trying to use delay tactics and avoiding my free repair. This dealer improperly denies a legitimate safety recall when they are required to inspect parts, update software and replace damaged parts at no cost to me. I was told since my warranty has expired, it will not be covered. To say I am baffled, is an understatement. This has nothing to do with my warranty expiration, rather everything to do with over 642,000 U.S. SUV(model years 2023-2025) Nissan Rogue safety campaign. My vehicle is a 2023 and I am asking for some assistance with enforcing the company to honor this recall. In the end, these franchise dealerships want to save money but had no problem taking my money when the vehicle was purchased. More disturbing, my vehicle neither has not been torn down nor any diagnostic code been confirmed. After asking why, I was told that the engine is locked up and it will not show. Please assist me with my refund to out of pocket expense with throttle body and a new engine asap. Thanks.

The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine/motor failure. The engine became extremely loud/rattled and subsequently locked up, causing the vehicle to lose the ability to operate. The vehicle is currently being held for diagnosis/repair and should be available for inspection upon request. The vehicle experienced the failure while I was driving and left me stranded on a mountain. The vehicle lost its ability to operate, creating a significant safety risk because I was left stopped and without reliable transportation. A sudden engine failure while driving could also create a traffic hazard for the occupants and other motorists. Yes. The vehicle has been taken to a Nissan dealership for diagnosis following the failure. The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure/lock-up. I am requesting the dealership’s written diagnostic report and confirmation of the exact failed component. The vehicle has been presented to Nissan for inspection and diagnosis. Nissan is currently involved in determining the cause of the engine failure. There has not been a police inspection that I am aware of. I am requesting that Nissan preserve and provide all diagnostic findings, photographs, technician notes, and repair records. Prior to the failure, the vehicle began exhibiting abnormal engine symptoms, including a loud/rattling engine noise and difficulty operating normally. The symptoms occurred shortly before the catastrophic failure on August 14, 2026. The vehicle subsequently became inoperable when the engine locked up. I am requesting the dealer’s diagnostic scan to determine whether any warning codes or messages were stored before or during the failure.

My 2023 Nissan Rogue SL FWD began exhibiting a jerking/kicking sensation from the transmission starting in approximately June 2026. Initially, the vehicle moved smoothly on level surfaces, but whenever I had to apply the accelerator pedal from a stop to start moving, a distinct kick or jerk would occur. I did not initially consider this a serious issue. In July 2026, an engine repair was performed on the vehicle. Following that repair, the transmission jerking issue worsened significantly. It now occurs every single time I start the vehicle moving from a stop and press the accelerator pedal - not intermittently, but consistently. Notably, the jerk does NOT occur while the vehicle is at a standstill (e.g., stopped at a red light) - it only occurs during the initial acceleration from a stop. This behavior is consistent with widely reported CVT shudder/jerk issues documented by other Nissan Rogue owners, in prior NHTSA complaints, and in class action litigation regarding Nissan’s CVT transmissions. I am concerned this represents a safety-related defect, as unexpected jerking during acceleration from a stop (e.g., pulling into traffic or merging) could increase the risk of a collision. I am a single mother of three children, and this vehicle is my family’s only means of transportation. I am reporting this issue now, before an accident occurs, because I am concerned about the safety risk of unexpected jerking during acceleration, especially when merging into traffic with my children in the car. I am filing this complaint to formally document the issue with NHTSA and am also pursuing repair of this defect under the vehicle’s factory warranty.

I brought my car to my mechanic for a routine oil change and the drain plug on the oil pain failed. It is made with plastic and melted due to exposure to high engine heat rendering it useless and requiring the oil pan and drain to be replaced. When we called Nissan they said this is a known issue with several Nissan models and they have since had to retrofit a part to correct the malfunction. Had this plug failed while I was driving it could have caused massive engine failure. There were no indications there was anything wrong with my oil pan and this mechanic has done my oil changes on several cars for over 10 years. Despite the associate at the Nissan dealership we got the replacement part from acknowledging this is a known issue, no service campaign has been issued. I called Consumer affairs to discuss next steps in order to get this covered under warranty and was told to call back with my invoice information to submit for reimbursement. Upon calling back I was told they will not cover the repair as it was done at an independent mechanic which I was not informed of on my previous call. They assured me a supervisor would call me back by the end of the following day and I have not received a call from anyone. Failure for Nissan to take responsibility for a manufacturing defect is now leading to potential safety hazards and undue financial responsibility on its consumer's behalf since their employees are improperly trained. I will never purchase a Nissan again and can guarantee I will share this poor experience with everyone I know.

Transmission/ motor mount went out at 80k, the issue was going on before hand where my car would shake violently. I had been complaining about it for months they kept telling me it was normal, come to find out my transmission mount is going bad. Now they want to charge me 2k to replace it, after the engine was replaced.

Warning lights keep popping up then something will go wrong with the car. A CVT malfunction came up and wouldn’t allow me to put the car in park then after I turned the car off it went back to normal. More random lights will come up they will all be different problems with the engine or system then once car has been off for a few it would go back to normal

I attempted to speak with a service advisor at Nissan regarding my concerns and symptoms of the safety recall, I left a message with a service rep explaining my issue and still have not gotten a call back over 48 hrs later. I have started a case with Nissan corporate in regards to NHTSA 26V-080, I explained that I may be experiencing limp modes. I asked if I would be getting a free loaner and I was told by corporate, that would be the dealerships decision. This is a major safety recall and the fact that CORPORATE is telling me this is very concerning. Corporate then asked if I would like to be transferred to a dealership to make an appointment. At no point did either corporate nor the dealership tell me to stop driving and offer me a tow to the dealership. This is a huge safety liability for Nissan and I have documentation of all this. While driving it feels rough and I have had power loss and have not been able to go more than 25-26 mph until pulling over and restarting the car. These calls are on recorded lines and they failed to take this safety recall seriously after I explained my issue.

'Service CVT Power Reduced' - I have been getting this warning on and off for almost a year now. It seems to come on after the vehicle has been driving for about 30 minutes. The dealership claims they can only get a code when the warning is currently showing. And I have yet to be able to get it there while it is actively showing. I've gone there as soon as the following day and am told the codes are not stored. But I have heard otherwise. I am worried it is transmission related and I am going to go past my 60,000 mile warranty, which I am currently under. When the car is turned off for at least 5-10 minutes it seems to clear. But the issue seems to be happening more frequently. Weather does not seem to he a factor. I am in a nissan social media page and a lot of people seem to have the same issue with this year. Most people are told the same thing. A lot of others say it is the valve body or have had to have transmissions replaced.

While driving under normal highway conditions, my 2023 Nissan Rogue AWD experienced a sudden and severe safety malfunction. All warning and safety indicator lights on the dashboard illuminated simultaneously, followed by a complete shutdown of the digital instrument cluster. The vehicle lost critical display functions at the moment the issue occurred. Shortly afterward, the check engine light remained on. The dealership later diagnosed the vehicle with DTC P0196 – Engine Oil Temperature Sensor and recommended replacement of the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Control Valve.

While driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue on Interstate xxx from [XXX] to [XXX] with my xxx daughter in the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple warnings including collision assist/sensor malfunction warnings, start/stop system failure warnings, and “check owner’s manual” messages. Immediately afterward, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and refusal to accelerate. At the time of failure, I was traveling approximately 78 mph in the fast lane of the interstate. The vehicle rapidly lost speed and dropped into what appeared to be limp mode, eventually slowing into the upper 50 mph range despite pressing the accelerator. I had to fight across multiple lanes of freeway traffic while unable to maintain highway speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation due to surrounding high-speed traffic and limited safe shoulder access in a remote desert area. The vehicle became unsafe to continue driving and required a tow of over 70 miles to the nearest Nissan dealership. The tow expense alone exceeded $600. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had already experienced a separate unexplained no-power/no-start event. At that time, the battery, starter, and alternator reportedly tested normal. The vehicle remains within the manufacturer’s 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty and currently has active recalls associated with the vehicle. A Nissan case has been opened and the vehicle is pending dealer diagnosis and inspection. After posting publicly about this incident in Nissan owner groups, I identified numerous other owners reporting nearly identical symptoms involving warning light cascades, sudden loss of acceleration, limp mode events, and highway safety concerns. This incident created a serious safety hazard involving sudden highway deceleration and loss of motive power during interstate travel. The Contact owns a 2023 NISSAN Rogue. The contact stated while driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed he stated he lost a motive of power, causing the vehicle to be towed due to not having power. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed to have an issue with the fuel system. The contact stated the vehicle had been to a dealer on multiple occasions. The contact referenced that the vehicle had a turbo failure that could've been covered under a warranty, but the dealer refused to acknowledge the failure until the last trip to the dealer where they stated that it was a turbo failure, and now the warranty has expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,806.
