Recalls and investigations

  1. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalFeb 12, 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.

Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 27, 2026.

  3. Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 28, 2024

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

  5. Seat belts, critical fastenersMay 25, 2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The fastener in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points may not have been tightened properly and can loosen over time.

A loose rear seat belt anchor fastener may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolts. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the bolt size and torque value required for any future seat belt repair. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The driver's powered seat may not be fully secured to the seat frame, causing the seat frame welds to detach from the rear inboard seat bracket.

An unsecured seat with broken welds may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect the driver's seat rail clearance, and if necessary, replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 10, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC966, PC967.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the engine overheating warning light illuminated. The contact started to drive back to the residence; however, closer to the residence, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes and the vehicle started losing motive power. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was coolant intrusion in the engine block, causing damage to the head gasket and the engine block. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V437000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); and related the failure to the recall. However, the contact called the dealer and was advised that the failure was not covered under the recall. The contact stated that the vibration occurred especially when the vehicle was idling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. 5. Engine, Oct 17, 2025

The vehicle has an open federal safety recall related to a manufacturing defect that poses a serious safety risk. The recall was announced months after purchase, but the defect existed at the time of sale. The manufacturer has delayed providing a remedy for more than 90 days and continues to state that repairs are “under development.” The vehicle remains unsafe to drive, and no temporary or permanent remedy has been provided despite repeated contact with the manufacturer’s regional consumer affairs specialist. The issue places my safety and the safety of others at risk because the defect can lead to sudden vehicle malfunction while driving. The vehicle has been serviced and inspected by a dealer who confirmed the open recall but could not perform repairs. The manufacturer refuses to provide a replacement or buyback, and instead continues to require payments for a defective vehicle. There were no prior warning lamps or messages before the recall notice was issued. This is an ongoing safety concern caused by the manufacturer’s failure to remedy a known defect within a reasonable time under 49 U.S.C. §30120(c).

  6. Visibility/wiper, Oct 16, 2025

My back window shattered for no reason. I had been driving for about 20 minutes. The ac was on my feet and not for the rear defrost. My [XXX] was in her booster seat in the back seat. We heard an explosion. I looked back to see a softball sized hole in my back window. I called Lumberton Nissan and the General Manager was very rude and was "mansplaining" how he is just a supplier and not responsible for windows exploding. There was no lawn or road work happening. There are no bullet holes in my vehicle. No rocks were found. The location I bought my vehicle from told me to make a claim with my insurance. I ended up just calling a mobile windshield vendor that my employer uses for their vehicles. I work for a Dodge dealership. While the repair is fixed, this has left my daughter scared to ride in my vehicle. I have joined a few Facebook groups who have posted their horror stories of their back windshields exploding. This needs to be fixed! Now that the window has been fixed. When you open and close my hatchback or even take a turn. You can hear glass INSIDE of the door rolling around. The vendor was not able to take apart the door to vacuum the glass up. This will become extremely annoying and make me scared that another window broke, hearing the glass rattle around in my hatchback door. What can be done to help the consumer? As the GM at Lumberton Nissan talks down to women and felt the need to explain how he is only a supplier of vehicles and does not make them, himself. Well, DUH! You are a dealership, not the factory. But the idea of a recall needs to be discussed on your end. This is not safe! My front windshield is perfectly fine and no issues. Same as the four door windows. But my back window should not be exploding on a 66 degree morning when my vehicle is only set at the lowest blowing setting of 72 degrees for more than 20 minutes, on my feet. Again, the rear defrost was no longer turned on. I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I have a bunch of pics. The vehicle was parked and turned off. The contact stated that while the friend was attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. 8. Engine, Oct 15, 2025

The KR15 1.5 L VC-Turbo engine in my 2023 Nissan Rogue (VIN [XXX] ) suffered complete engine failure while driving, resulting in loss of thrust and a sudden drop in power. The failure corresponds to Safety Recall 25V-437 for defective crankshaft bearings. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and no remedy or countermeasure engine is available until late Q4 2025, leaving the vehicle unsafe to operate. Warning signs began a few days prior with an intermittent yellow engine light. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  10. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 14, 2025

There is an odd engine 'rattling', 'guzzling', 'slurping', type noise coming from the engine and the engine has begun to idle very rough even after fresh oil change. This is directly the issue cited from Nissan as recall with no current solution - which is unacceptable. We are not interested in waiting until the car malfunctions worse and in a dangerous way in order to get this recall addressed.

See attached document for complaint. Please be advised that I received a safety recall notice relative to my leased 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum involving a manufacturing defect affecting the engine bearings and/or engine components. Bearings and crankshaft are prone to failure, which can result in catastrophic engine damage with little or no warning. I appreciate that Nissan is going to address this issue, as this issue will increase the risk of a crash . The NHTSA RECALL 25V-437 affects my car. The Vin number is [XXX] . My account number with Nissan is XXXXXXXXXXX·. Since I received this notice, and was scheduled for an oil and filter change, I took my Nissan to Maus Nissan located in Tampa, Florida. I was told that the parts relative to the recall were not in. Since I was going to drive to Miami, Florida and considered the vehicle unsafe to drive from Tampa to Miami I contacted Nissan about a rental vehicle. I was told no, to drive the vehicle and if a problem happened to pull over and take the car to the nearest Nissan Dealer. I rented a vehicle from National Car Rental and have attached a copy of the rental receipt. The amount was $261.66. I respectfully request that Nissan North America reimburse said amount. While driving, the engine started making a loud rattling noise, as if there were loose parts inside. The noise increases when accelerating, and the vehicle has noticeably lost power, especially during gear shifts. It feels like the transmission is struggling or the engine isn’t delivering enough power. This issue raised safety concerns because the vehicle doesn’t respond properly when accelerating or merging into traffic.

  25. Vehicle speed control, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 5, 2025

So my engine failed at 70K. Nissan replaced it with a remanufactured engine the is failing faster than the original engine. Currently at 112K, I have replaced the catalytic converter, muffler, Egr sensor twice, mass airflow sensor and oil changes at 3K just to have the vehicle in the shop for 6-7 months in 2025 alone. Do not buy a 2023 Nissan Rogue with the 1.5L. The reman engine is under a safety recall for bearing degradation, but the dealership won't even look at it unless I pay upfront for a full diag fee of 4500 dollars for a wiring harness that is a secondary condition. Apparently the remedy won't be out until late in Q4 of 2025. No rental or loaner assistance was offered at all. The vehicle has a deep knocking and won't accelerate properly to use roads and interstate driving safely. The latest symptom is low oil pressure and stalling. Completly unsafe car and ridiculous amount of time getting repaired. All of this has been since October 31st of 2024.
