Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

  2. Air bags, frontalFeb 16, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2005-2014 Mustang, 2004-2011 Ranger, 2009-2011 Mercury Milan, 2006 Ford GT, 2008-2012 Fusion, 2007-2010 Edge and Lincoln MKX, and 2009-2010 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. These vehicles may be equipped with a driver or passenger frontal air bag inflator used as a replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the frontal air bag, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver and passenger air bag module, and replace either the module or the inflator, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 17, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S05.

  3. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S01.

  7. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. "TAKATA RECALL" - PERSONAL VEHICLE IS NOT DISABLED BUT HOW CAN A TOP TIER VEHICLE MANUFACTURER BE ALLOWED TO DEFER REPAIRS REGARDING A "SAFETY" RECALL FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF TIME? VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS FOR ALL CONCERNED.

AFTER THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE HAS ENGAGED, ON SUBSEQUENT STOPS THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL BE VERY SOFT. I WILL HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND SITS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (HOUR OR MORE) THE PEDAL USUALLY RETURNS TO NORMAL. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 7 YEARS, THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE LATEST WAS 10/27/2018.

I KEEP GETTING RECALL NOTICES FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP, VALVOLINE OIL CHANGE, AND OTHER SOURCES TELLING ME THERE IS A RECALL REGARDING THE AIRBAG. WHENEVER I ASK THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY FUNDS FOR THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT BEEN AUTHORIZED YET. I WAS NOTIFIED DURING THE WINTER, AND TOLD REPAIRS WERE EXPECTED IN THE SPRING. IN THE SPRING I CHECKED BACK, AND WAS TOLD SUMMER WAS EXPECTED. IN THE SUMMER I CHECKED BACK, AND WAS TOLD THE FALL. NOW IT'S THE END OF OCTOBER, AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED ON THE ABS SYSTEM. BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS LOST AND BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND FAILED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL BASED ON REPORTED ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. BRAKES FAILED ON THE ROAD WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE CAR WOULD STOP BUT PEDAL WAS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT OUR EXPENSE.

HERKY JERKY ACCELERATION. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A SENSOR. 6 MONTHS LATER, SAME PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP SAID A SMALL OIL LEAK BURNED THROUGH SOME WIRES. STATED SOME SORT OF ISSUE WITH A WIRING HARNESS. STATED WIRING HARNESS NEEDED REPLACED, BUT WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCATE. BRAKES CONSTANTLY NEED REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS. MULTIPLE TIMES PER YEAR.

  22. Air bags, Oct 28, 2018

TAKATA RECALL. I INITIALLY RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM FORD DATED MARCH,2017 WHICH STATED THAT WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE I WOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AT WHICH TIME I WOULD CONTACT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ISSUE CORRECTED. I RECEIVED NO OTHER CORRESPONDENCE FROM FORD IN 2017. THEN THIS YEAR IN 2018 I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE FROM FORD, STATING THE I CAN CONTACT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL THE PARTS COME IN FOR REPAIR. I THEN CALLED FORD OF MURFREESBORO IN MURFREESBORO, TN SO THAT THEY COULD PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL THEY ARE ABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY JONATHAN GREENE IN THEIR SHOP TO EMAIL HIM PHOTOS OF ALL 4 SIDES OF MY VEHICLE, ALONG WITH A PHOTO SHOT OF THE VIN PLATE AND PHOTO SHOT OF THE ODOMETER, WHICH I DID ON JUNE 12, 2018. I DID THAT AS INSTRUCTED, BUT I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM. I THEN RE-SENT THE EMAIL TO HIM ON JULY 3, 2018, BUT AS OF THIS DATE, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING MORE FROM FORD OR FROM THE FORD OR MURFREESBORO DEALERSHIP. THEREFORE I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE, WAITING FOR A CRASH TO OCCUR. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT FORD WOULD WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ASAP IN ORDER TO AVOID A CATASTROPHIC OCCURRENCE AND POSSIBLE SUIT, BUT NO, I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER RESPONSE AND NO INDICATION OF CONCERN ON THE PART OF FORD.

  23. Air bags, Oct 28, 2018

I PHONED DIEHL FORD (BELLINGHAM, WA 98225) THEY SAID IT WAS A PRELIMINARY NOTICE. I RECEIVED A LETTER WITH SAME INFORMATION AS THE POSTCARD. DIEHL FORD TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT LETTER. WHEN I RECEIVED THAT LETTER, DIEHL TOLD ME THEY WERE OUT OF AIRBAG REPLACEMENTS AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT AIRBAG SHIPMENT, PROBABLY SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER 2018. AS OF TODAY, OCT. 26, 2018 I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING MORE. THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR MONTHS, I CANNOT DRIVE IT. I AM NOT WILLING TO PAY OUT-OF-POCKET FOR A RENTAL CAR.
