Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

Air bags, frontalFeb 16, 2021
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2005-2014 Mustang, 2004-2011 Ranger, 2009-2011 Mercury Milan, 2006 Ford GT, 2008-2012 Fusion, 2007-2010 Edge and Lincoln MKX, and 2009-2010 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. These vehicles may be equipped with a driver or passenger frontal air bag inflator used as a replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the frontal air bag, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver and passenger air bag module, and replace either the module or the inflator, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 17, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S05.

Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.
If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

EquipmentMay 29, 2014
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, WE HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES HARD TO AVOID SOME ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE NEXT TIME WE APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED TEMPORARILY. NEXT, WHILE GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL AND APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD TO STOP FOR A CROSSWALK, THE BRAKES ACTED FINE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN STARTED GOING TO THE FLOOR REQUIRING THE BRAKES TO BE PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES TO BUILD THEM BACK UP. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS AND IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN ONLY AFTER A HARD OR ROUGH BRAKING EVENT. SEEMS AS THOUGH TURNING THE CAR OFF FIXES THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY.

SHORTLY AFTER GOING OVER A POTHOLE, I WAS THEN ON A FAIRLY STEEP DOWNHILL GRADE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. AS I BRAKED, THERE WAS A FEELING OF "RELEASE: IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN THE PEDAL GOT VERY "SOFT". THE PEDAL TRAVELED MUCH FURTHER THAN USUAL TO NEARLY "THE FLOOR" WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING POWER TAKING PLACE. RIGHT AFTER FINALLY STOPPING THE BRAKES WERE STILL SOFT BUT RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER A MINUTE OR 2 AFTER COMMENCING SLOW DRIVING. I HAD THE BRAKES/SYSTEM INSPECTED.....NO PROBLEM EVIDENT. HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR ONE MONTH SO UNSURE OF PRIOR OCCURRENCES.

AS I WAS BRAKING TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT WORK THIS PAST WINTER , THE ROAD WAS SNOW COVERED AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED. SINCE THAT TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TRAVEL BEFORE BRAKES ENGAGE. I HAVE SINCE CHANGED OUT PADS , ROTORS AND FLUSHED THE BRAKES AND CANNOT GET RID OF THE SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE THIS PAST WEEKEND AND FOUND OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS BRAKE ISSUE.

DRIVING ON ON A ROUGH SURFACE AND APPLIED THE BRAKE ' THE BRAKE PEDAL "WENT SOFT," REQUIRING EXTRAORDINARY PRESSURE TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AND USUALLY TURNING OFF THE CAR RESETS IT. IT DID NOT RESET QUICKLY THIS TIME BUT TOOK THE WEEKEND TO GO BACK TO NORMAL.
Service brakes, Apr 1, 2017
GOING DOWN A ROUGH BUMPING ROAD, HIT BRAKES AND BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. NOW THE BRAKE PEDAL IS REAL SOFT AND SPONGY. BRAKE PEDAL GOES ABOUT HALF WAY BEFORE EVEN APPLYING BRAKES TO THE WHEELS TO SLOW CAR DOWN.
Service brakes, Mar 30, 2017
THE BRAKES ON MY 2009 FORD FUSION ARE HARDLY FUNCTIONAL. WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR WITH A GREATLY EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A FEW CLOSE CALLS FOR ACCIDENTS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THEY TURNED THE ROTORS. THE SECOND TIME, THEY "COMPUTER BLED" THE BRAKES. THE LAST TIME THE SHOP CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY AND THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IS A PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL. IF THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. JUST A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOW THAT THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD.
Service brakes, Mar 29, 2017
AS STATED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE16017, MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THE BRAKES GOING TO THE FLOOR AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BUILD BRAKE PRESSURE. I HAVE FIXED/REPLACED EVERY BRAKE COMPONENT (CALIPERS, BRAKE BOOSTER, MASTER CYLINDER) BUT HAVE NOT REPLACED THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. ALL RESEARCH LEADS TO THIS BEING THE ISSUE OF THE VALVES STICKING OPEN AND CAUSING NOT BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE TO BUILD.
Service brakes, Mar 28, 2017
WHEN PUSHING MY BRAKES, THE PEDAL WILL BE ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. IT WILL GRADUALLY SLOW DOWN AND ALMOST FEELS SPONGE LIKE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN TOWN THEY TOLD ME THAT SEVERAL FORD FUSIONS WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THE PART ITSELF TO FIX IT WAS $1300. AS WELL AS SEVERAL HOURS OF LABOR. THE TOTAL BILL WOULD BE $3000. THEY REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND CONDEMNED IT UNDRIVEABLE STATING THE BRAKES COULD GO OUT AT ANY MOMENT. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED BACK TO MY HOUSE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

AFTER MY CAR SAT FOR A WEEK, THE BREAKS WERE WET FROM THE SNOW MELTING. ONCE I FIRST STARTED DRIVING MY CAR, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THAT THE BREAKS FELT REALLY LOOSE. IT LOOKS LONGER TO BREAK THAN USUAL. I WAS GOING TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, AND REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, SINCE IT WAS TAKING LONGER TO BREAK THAN USUAL. MY VEHICLE IS USUALLY ABLE TO BREAK QUICKLY.

I WAS DRIVING AS NORMAL SLOWING TO CROSS RAILROAD TRACKS, DOING THIS CAUSED THE ABS TO ENGAGE BRIEFLY. BRAKING EACH TIME AFTERWARDS THE PEDAL WOULD GO ALMOST COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING. AFTER RESEARCHING IM CONFIDENT THAT IT'S A STUCK VALVE IN THE ABS MODULE.

I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR DUE TO THE PASSENGER AIR BAG BUT THE PARTS TO REPLACE IT ARE NOT IN, I WANT TO DISABLE THE AIR BAG TO AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY UNTIL IT CAN BE FIXED BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT DO THIS UNTIL THE COMPANY WILL AUTHORIZE IT. THE RECALL DESCRIBES PERSONAL INJURY OR POSSIBLE DEATH AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECT. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR AND IF I AM INJURED OR DIE AS A RESULT OF THIS....MY FAMILY WILL SUE THE HECK OUT OF THE COMPANY AND THE AGENCY OVERSEEING THE INDUSTRY. JUST GIVE DEALERSHIPS THE PERMISSION TO DEACTIVATE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS SO WE DON'T HAVE TO RIDE AROUND WITH MINIATURE IEDS IN OUR DASHBOARDS OR COMPENSATE US FOR RENTAL CARS.

ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE BREAKS HAVE LOST PRESSURE AFTER HAVING ENGAGED IN A STOP THAT MAY HAVE ENGAGED THE ABS. HAVE TO BLEED THE BREAKS AFTER TO RESTORE PRESSURE. VERY HAZARDOUS
Service brakes, Mar 5, 2017
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATES WHENEVER BRAKING ON ROUGH ROAD OR WHILE HITTING EVEN SMALL POTHOLES. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO DROP TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE HAS TO BE PRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR JUST TO GET THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN WINTER CAME AND THE ROADS GOT SNOWY/SLUSHY, IT KEPT HAPPENING SO OFTEN AND WAS UNSAFE THAT I PULLED THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ABS FROM ACTIVATING. IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

2009 FORD FUSION ABS ISSUE THE FIRST ISSUE WITH THE ABS OCCURRED ON WET PAVEMENT. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED QUICKLY SO I HAD TO BRAKE HARD. THE ABS KICKED IN, MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AS I STARTED SLIDING SIDEWAYS AND THEN I LOST ALL PRESSURE IN MY BRAKES. AFTER I RECOVERED CONTROL OF THE CAR, I STILL HAD NO PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL UNLESS I PUMPED THE BRAKES MANY TIMES BEFORE TRYING TO STOP. AFTER CONTINUING MY DRIVE AND PUMPING THE BRAKES ALONG THE WAY, THE SYSTEM FINALLY CORRECTED ITSELF. THE SECOND ISSUE OCCURED A FEW WEEKS AGO (JAN 2017) WHEN I WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. THE INTERSECTION HAD A FEW SLICK SPOTS REMAINING AND AS I WENT TO STOP, THE ABS KICKED IN AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO STOP ALL TOGETHER. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER RECOVERED FROM THIS EVENT. MY STOPPING TIME HAS INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY AND I HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKES MANY TIMES BEFORE I EVEN TRY TO STOP. I HAVE AN APPT TO HAVE THE ABS CHECKED OUT.
