Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING A TIRE ROTATION, THE MECHANICS HAD TO USE A "RIPPER" TO TAKE ALL BUT THREE OF MY LUG NUTS OFF. APPARENTLY, FORD'S LUG NUTS ARE A TWO METAL DESIGN THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO SWELLING OVER PERIODS OF USE. AFTER DOING SOME HOMEWORK I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THE COURTS AND THE NHTSA, YET IT WASN'T CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. HMMM, REALLY? SO, IF SOMEONE GOT A FLAT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND NEEDED TO CHANGE THEIR TIRE, BUT COULDN'T REMOVE THE LUG NUTS, THAT'S NOT A SAFETY CONCERN? AS WIDESPREAD AS THIS ISSUE IS, WOULDN'T IT BE PRUDENT TO RETHINK THIS? I DON'T HAVE PICTURES OF MY OLD LUG NUTS, THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THEM, BUT I DO HAVE A RECEIPT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THEM. I HOPE THIS PROBLEM IS REMEDIED SOON. I CERTAINLY HOPE THERE HASN'T BEEN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS AND I HOPE THERE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHICH HAS NOW HAPPENED 4 TIMES. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES DOWN. THE DASH GOES DARK, THE A/C DOES NOT WORK, THE TURN SIGNALS DON'T WORK, THE DOORS AND WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK AND I CANNOT EVEN GET OUT OF THE CAR. IT DOES NOT HELP TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE CAR, EVERYTHING WILL START WORKING EVENTUALLY ON ITS OWN. I CAN STEER AND BRAKE, BUT THAT IS ALL. THIS LAST TIME I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS FRIGHTENED THAT I WOULD BE HIT BEFORE I COULD GET ON THE SHOULDER. WHEN I TOOK IT IN, AS USUAL, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT FORD FOR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. THEY DENIED MY REQUEST, SAYING I WAS OUTSIDE THE TIME PERIOD FOR FILING. THE CASE NUMBER IS FMA CAS-22012807. I BOUGHT THE CAR AT RACEWAY FORD IN HARTSVILLE, SC, WHERE I RESIDED, IN MARCH OF 2016. I FIRST HAD TROUBLE WITH IT IN JUNE, 2016 AND TOOK IT IN. THE AGAIN IN DECEMBER, 2016 AND JANUARY, 2018. I HAVE SINCE MOVED TO DES MOINES, IA AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN IN JULY, 2019. THE CAR HAS LESS THEN 19,000 MILES AND I FEEL VERY DANGEROUS. IN JANUARY, 2018 THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I HOPE THERE IS SOMETHING THAT THE NHTSA CAN HELP WITH.

ON FRIDAY I WAS BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND PUT THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK. THE GEAR WAS IN PARK BUT THE CAR WAS STILL REVERSING! I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO AVOID REVERSING DOWN THE HILL INTO THE TREE AT THE BOTTOM.I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF TO SEE IF THAT WILL ASSIST BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD CONTINUOUSLY FLASHED TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK! I CONTACTED FORD WHICH STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR AND TO BRING IT IN. I CALLED FORD TOWING FOR A TOW TRUCK AT 11 AM AND WAS NOT PICKED UP UNTIL 7 PM BY THE TIME I REACHED THE DEALER THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT MORNING THE MECHANIC REACHED OUT TO ME AND STATED HE WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! WHICH NONE OF THE PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM THE CAR WAS FROM SOMETHING I DID I DO NOT FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD PAY ESPECIALLY WHEN I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER STATING THE EXPENSES WILL BE COVERED WHEN THE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE FROM FORD AND SHE TOLD ME TO NOT PAY ANYTHING TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED. YES THEY GAVE ME A LONER FOR THE TIME BEING BUT IT FRUSTRATES ME THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS AND KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND ON MY VEHICLE. I AM FED UP WITH FORD AT THIS POINT THEY SHOULD GIVE ME A NEW CAR SINCE THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE AN ESTIMATE AS TO WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE!
