Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.
Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Electrical system, Engine, Aug 4, 2026, crash
On June 3, 2026, I brought my vehicle to O'Brien Nissan of Bloomington because I was experiencing significant problems with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). Specifically, the SERVICE NOW light came on, the vehicle would not shift into park, and I was concerned about a CVT malfunction. I explained these concerns to the service advisor Jason who is the current service manager and expected that the vehicle would be thoroughly inspected and any necessary repairs would be completed. The purpose of my visit was specifically to have the transmission issue addressed and repaired before it developed into a more serious safety concern. The dealership's response was as follows: • Complaint: The CVT malfunction SERVICE NOW light came on, and the car would not shift into park • Cause: TECH FOUND MULTIPLE STORED CODES. NO CURRENT CODES. TECH TESTED TRANSMISSION OPERATION AND FOUND NO ISSUE AT THIS TIME. • Correction: NO REPAIRS SUGGESTED FOR THIS VISIT According to the service manager Jason, the CVT was not serviced because it was approximately 3:30 p.m. when the customer returned the service request form through email and it was close to the end of the workday. When I got to the dealership to pick up and pay the total should have been $336.00 but it was $109.00 that’s when I requested to speak to the manager on duty. I expressed my concern about the CVT and the actions of the vehicle and how it would just take off when trying to park. I was assured that my vehicle was safe to drive, and that sometimes lights just appear because the cars are digital per Shawn the manager on duty and I relied on that representation when leaving the dealership. The Multi-Point Inspection Report from June 3, 2026, also noted the following: Component Status Transmission Fluid Level/Condition Cautioned Fuel Injection System Cautioned Brake Fluid Condition Cautioned Cabin/HEPA Filter Cautioned Engine Air Filter Failed Rear Brake Linings (LR/RR) Cautioned Front Collision Avoidance Light

Transmission/ motor mount went out at 80k, the issue was going on before hand where my car would shake violently. I had been complaining about it for months they kept telling me it was normal, come to find out my transmission mount is going bad. Now they want to charge me 2k to replace it, after the engine was replaced.

I am submitting a complaint regarding a serious water intrusion issue with my 2023 Nissan Rogue. My vehicle developed a severe water leak that allowed water to enter both sides of the vehicle. The amount of water intrusion is significant and has caused concern about possible hidden damage, including mold growth, mildew, and damage to electrical components. I brought my vehicle to Hallmark Nissan in Birmingham, Alabama for evaluation. The dealership informed me that this is a known issue and that Nissan has a Technical Service Bulletin, NTB21-097B, addressing water leaks at the top front corners of the windshield on certain 2021–2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. My vehicle was only two days outside of the warranty period when I brought it in for this problem. Even though Nissan has identified this issue through a Technical Service Bulletin, I was advised that I would be responsible for approximately $684 in repair costs. I believe this is unacceptable for a relatively new vehicle with a known defect. A vehicle should not allow water to leak into the passenger compartment due to a known issue shortly after the warranty expires. This water intrusion creates potential safety concerns, including: Mold and mildew growth that could affect occupants’ health. Corrosion or failure of electrical wiring, connectors, sensors, and other vehicle systems. Potential malfunction of safety-related components due to water damage. Additional costly damage that may not become apparent until later. The existence of Technical Service Bulletin NTB21-097B demonstrates that Nissan is aware of this condition, yet customers are still being required to pay for repairs. I believe this issue should be investigated as a potential safety defect rather than treated as a normal repair expense. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this water intrusion issue affecting Nissan Rogue vehicles and determine whether Nissan should provide a safety remedy or recall for affected owners.

Rear window shattered with no signs of impact or outside force.
Other or unspecified, Jul 29, 2026
My 2023 Nissan Rogue was sitting in the hot sun and the rear window shattered. There was no accident or apparent defect in the window. It was simply the hottest day of the year (July 27, 2026) followed by a night time rainstorm. I had not even driven the car that day.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 28, 2026
The vehicle was running when it overheated and started smoking from the gasket area, with no warning lights appearing on the dashboard; the car will not start now.
Power train, Engine, Jul 26, 2026
Warning lights keep popping up then something will go wrong with the car. A CVT malfunction came up and wouldn’t allow me to put the car in park then after I turned the car off it went back to normal. More random lights will come up they will all be different problems with the engine or system then once car has been off for a few it would go back to normal
Engine, Jul 25, 2026
Engine failure while driving, causing Engine Warning lights to come on as well as loss of acceleration. Safely was a concern due to incident occurred while on the interstate during rush hour traffic. Vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealership, who ran a diagnostic test and confirmed that the engine needs to be replaced. There were no Warning lights or messages prior to incident.

I attempted to speak with a service advisor at Nissan regarding my concerns and symptoms of the safety recall, I left a message with a service rep explaining my issue and still have not gotten a call back over 48 hrs later. I have started a case with Nissan corporate in regards to NHTSA 26V-080, I explained that I may be experiencing limp modes. I asked if I would be getting a free loaner and I was told by corporate, that would be the dealerships decision. This is a major safety recall and the fact that CORPORATE is telling me this is very concerning. Corporate then asked if I would like to be transferred to a dealership to make an appointment. At no point did either corporate nor the dealership tell me to stop driving and offer me a tow to the dealership. This is a huge safety liability for Nissan and I have documentation of all this. While driving it feels rough and I have had power loss and have not been able to go more than 25-26 mph until pulling over and restarting the car. These calls are on recorded lines and they failed to take this safety recall seriously after I explained my issue.
Engine, Jul 25, 2026
Bought this car brand new from Nissan dealership 7/2023. Had issues with battery, sensor (causing car to go into low mode), and now complete engine failure all in a span of 7 months. Towed to dealership, told need new engine/turbo cost: $9,462. Reached out to Nissan Consumer Affairs for support as this car has less than 100k miles on it. Told nothing they can do-not on recall. Did online research and realized the same exact problems I had, was the same problems that was in the other recall cars. My car should have been on the recall list-not sure why not. Did Nissan just pick and choose which cars to add because it is ironic my car experienced the same problems. I had 3 major issues happen to the car in a span of 7 months this year. I was sold a bogus car from the dealership.
Electrical system, Jul 24, 2026
Had a coffee spill while driving down the road. It shorted out my driving shifter. It immediately triggered a cvt transmission code. I am now worried that im going to have an electrical fire. I took my suv to the shop and they replaced it at a cost of $1200. They blame me for spilling the coffee. I don't understand why you would put something like that next to a cup holder and not have it protected. I believe this should be recalled.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 23, 2026
Since purchasing my 2023 Nissan Rogue brand new, I have experienced severe drowsiness and an inability to breathe when driving in start-and-stop traffic. The issue peaked after a recent refueling stop, where raw gas fumes or exhaust heavily infiltrated the cabin. Immediately after driving away from the gas pump, I suffered acute chemical suffocation, gasping for air, experiencing body tremors, and nearly passing out. The symptoms instantly resolved when I switched to driving a different vehicle. This is a severe cabin fume infiltration defect that causes physical incapacitation while driving.
Engine and engine cooling, Jul 21, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "Engine Malfunction - Power Reduced Service Now" was displayed and the vehicle stalled. The failure was a recurring failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed a failure with the EGR valve, EGR sensor, TC Boost Control Position Sensor, External USB Communication Dispense Sensor, air bags, and ISC system. The dealer repaired the EGR valve, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
Visibility, Jul 21, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, there was a loud banging sound coming from the top of the vehicle. Upon returning to normal operation, the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and was then driven as needed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Jul 16, 2026
Car went in to limp mode twice! (Vehicle speed wouldn’t get over 50 miles per hour.) The car was taken to the nearest O’Reilly to be diagnosed. The diagnosis said “ Powertain diagnosis troubled codes : P0012 Code Indicates that the Bank1intake camshaft position timing was retarded beyond limits for a predetermined time period of time. Also said replace engine variable valve time (vvt) solenoid both times!!!
Other or unspecified, Engine, Jul 15, 2026
My vehicle experienced severe stalling, rough idling, and a strong burning smell, which match the exact defect characteristics outlined in NHTSA Campaign 26V080 for Nissan main bearing failure (The year 2026 campaign is active). The vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealership, where technicians confirmed the engine requires complete replacement. However, the dealership is currently attempting to attribute the engine failure to 'coil intrusion' rather than the active bearing recall. The vehicle was purchased used in February 2026, just days after the official recall notification was sent to dealers. I am filing this complaint because the manufacturer is actively reviewing the claim and potentially bypassing a federally mandated safety remedy by blaming a consequential symptom of the engine failure. To specifically answer the above questions: The engine's main bearings failed/malfunctioned internally, causing catastrophic damage requiring a total engine replacement. The vehicle and its components are currently intact and available for inspection at the Nissan dealership service center. The vehicle suffered sudden, unexpected engine stalling while actively driving. This caused an immediate loss of motive power on a public roadway, creating a severe crash hazard and putting myself and surrounding drivers at risk of a rear-end collision. Yes. An authorized Nissan dealership service department has inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the engine has suffered a total mechanical failure and needs to be completely replaced. The vehicle is currently being inspected by an authorized Nissan dealership service center, and the case has been officially escalated to Nissan Corporate for a technical and warranty review. A strong burning smell and severe rough idling appeared a couple days prior to the incident. However, the check engine light did not illuminate or provide any warning until the moment the engine completely stalled on the highway.
Engine and engine cooling, Jul 15, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled after idling and then attempting to accelerate. The failure was intermittent but became more frequent over time. While pulling out of a parking lot and turning into oncoming traffic, the transmission failed to shift gears properly or accelerate. The contact was able to coast into the next parking lot, shifted to park, activated the hazard lights, shifted to drive, and then waited until traffic cleared to continue driving. The contact stated that one mile later, while making a right turn, the vehicle stalled and failed to accelerate. The contact was able to coast off the road, shifted into park, and waited before shifting into drive and continuing driving. The failure had occurred on one occasion after refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was started, and the engine made a loud cranking sound. The vehicle was previously included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V437000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and the remedy, reprogramming the engine control module software, was completed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,759.

'Service CVT Power Reduced' - I have been getting this warning on and off for almost a year now. It seems to come on after the vehicle has been driving for about 30 minutes. The dealership claims they can only get a code when the warning is currently showing. And I have yet to be able to get it there while it is actively showing. I've gone there as soon as the following day and am told the codes are not stored. But I have heard otherwise. I am worried it is transmission related and I am going to go past my 60,000 mile warranty, which I am currently under. When the car is turned off for at least 5-10 minutes it seems to clear. But the issue seems to be happening more frequently. Weather does not seem to he a factor. I am in a nissan social media page and a lot of people seem to have the same issue with this year. Most people are told the same thing. A lot of others say it is the valve body or have had to have transmissions replaced.
Electrical system, Engine, Jul 14, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the vehicle was driving sluggishly and decelerated unintendedly. The vehicle failed to exceed 50 MPH while driving with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with variable valve timing failure with DTC: P0012 displayed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer; however, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) was reprogrammed, and the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.
Fuel system, Gasoline, Power train, Electrical system, Jul 13, 2026
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and drove to the destination with the vehicle in LIMP Mode. The vehicle returned to normal operation after it was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic and a dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V080000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 2,300.
Engine, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 13, 2026
Engine loss of power, exhaust producing white/gray smoke from tail pipe. Was stopped at stop light, pressed accelerator when light turned green. As I proceeded through the busy intersection, without warning, the engine lost power. As traffic was speeding up I was decelerating in front of a large tractor-trailer that nearly rear-ended me. Have not taken SUV to dealership or service center yet. No inspection has been completed. No warning, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the failure. The ADAS would shut off by itself.
Engine, Jul 11, 2026
In XXX my engine turned off while I was on the highway. I went to star nissan in [XXX] and they changed the turbo hose. On XXX I got a check engine light. After 3 days the dealership said I needed a new turbocharger and the repair would cost $4100. I was told I was 9000 miles over my warranty. I currently have 69000 miles on my 2023 nissan rogue. According to the incomplete recall, engine bearings and low oil pressure could have caused my turbocharger to fail. The extended 10 year 120k mile warranty is not being honored by star nissan in bayside new york. I am not being told the diagnostics codes. I was told to either pay the $4100 or pick the car up. This engine almost killed me on the highway. Now that the engine fails again i'm being denied the repair. I am being told the turbocharger is not part of the long block, eventhough the recall clearly afects the turbocharged engine.
